I am a poor slob, I've been throwing the bomber long a for decades. It works great here in Florida because it doesn't dive too deep. I fish it just like a zara spook only underwater. It will catch fish on the toughest of Florida cold front days, that and a balsa minnow like husky 13 or ac shiner with enough weight to barely sink under the surface
In spring, I'll have 200+ smallmouth days on jerkbaits up here. I'll stop because I'll start dropping the rod because my hand doesn't work. Best fishing imaginable.
I’ve heard that in Japan they fish jerkbaits different. Like sweeping the rod and then pausing as opposed to ripping them. Sounds like it probably accomplishes the same effect as reeling and stopping
If you use a spinning rods it's alot easier on your arm and for me it's alot easier to controll I can cast further. Spinning reel also has a better drag.
Mike, I throw my jerkbaits on a 6'11 medium or medium light spinning set up 2500 or 3000 sized reel with 6lb flouro. The megabass Levante whipsnake is a good rod for it that won't break the bank. I just seem to have the best luck with the lightest line I can get away with
I run 6lb invis-x. 6’6 medium rod, and 3k spinning reel. Cheap rod, and Daiwa Exceler reel. Has changed my jerk bait game. I am really stoked to try this “just reel” the jerkbait technique.
Mikey I've been doing the real deal with pointer in aurora gold for the past 3 early springs in Massachusetts and I've been crushing some giant smallmouth doing it. I thought it was just a quirk with the lucky craft but I'll try it out with the vision and the stunnah for shits and giggles
Yo Mikey! That gold color you can’t get in a vision 110 anymore is called Champagne Kinkuro. Megabass still makes that color in the Big M 7.5 and it’s absolutely a BANGER!!! Buy it when ever you see it!
Take all versions of the 110s and replace the trebles with owner st-36 size 6. I personally use an Ark Rods invoker pro Jerkbait Rod 6ft10 Medium with regular bend and 12 lb line on a 7.5:1 reel the speed is just for some slack pick up when the fish hits on super slack line just to catch up a little and pull/sweep into the hookset. Sometimes they freight train it and set the hook for you. But in the colder months on longer pauses and super slack line you can slightly sweep motion a twitch in your cadence and it also triggers bites. Key to jerkbait fishing is to always pay attention to how long/short your pauses are as well as the cadence you were doing when you got bit on the first couple of fish...
I've been testing this theory myself great minds they say good stuff!!! Caught one on a cast I thought was blown so I was just reeling to reset and boom !!!
#Checkyourcadence 🤙Definitely have tried the reeling instead of the jerk. Gives a tighter action in cold temps. I also just use a M power Fast action and just pull the rod slowly to the side for a slower tighter wobble. Then watch my line. Always trying to be different.
Give a drag, stop, reel in slack repeat. It's been working like charm for me. Cold and warm seasons. Cranks and jerks. Works well with inline spinners too especially when targeting sandbass. They always bang it when it stops!
I remember one time there was a boat fishing tournament going on that I was not in. And I just happened to drive down to the lake on this day without my boat to check the lake levels. I was on the shore and throwing a jerk bait and had caught two 4 pounders. The guys had just came in from the boat tournament and almost everyone of them blanked. They saw the two 4 pounders that I had called and said what in the world are you throwing. I told them a jerk bait right here in shallow water and they couldn’t believe it😂 They had fished for eight hours all day and not caught a single fish and it was late fall early winter and I was busting them on a jerk bait. One guy said a jerk bait was the only thing that he did not throw all day long😂😊

@@tomcervenka7404 I troll just off the weed line in 8-14 ft of water. I change up the speed from 1, 1.7 to 2.5 mph and jerk the bait letting it stop and slowly pull away and then jerk 1-3 times. One of the biggest bass I have ever caught on a Jerkbait came when I was reeling in to cast again. 46 degree water, reeling as fast as I could and absolutely crushed it. I am guessing she was following and couldn't stand the thought of dinner getting away. Cold water pffft- you still can't reel faster than a hungry bass can swim:)

I've seen other videos telling subscribers to move the bait with small sweeps, maybe 6-12" and, I've also seen one or two telling people to do the few fast reel thing. I have caught bass reeling the jerk bait back in but, never doing fast reels and stop. I have a few questions though. Does reeling the bait down after it lands spook or turn off the fish when you stop reeling it down? Does it look natural to have a bait swimming downward quickly and then stop all at once? If the water is shallow (3-6') can you just "jerk" the bait down to your desired level? Thanks!
Got one today and, although I didn't find any bass today, I was seriously impressed. Casts just as far as a Megabass and the hooks are plenty sharp.
