Some great things about ANZ that other airlines should learn: -The announcements on the screen. Great way to communicate non-super important info without waking the cabin up. On my flight they put up an announcement of a sunrise view off the left side - very cool. -On-screen dine on demand. An easy way to request items between meals without ringing the obnoxious call bell. They're not cheap, but their premium economy is a great experience if business class is a bit out of your reach. Hope you review that sometime!

I just love Air New Zealand. I took the Auckland to Sydney flight on a 787-9 last January and I have nothing but good experiences and vibes with this airline.
I recently flew on the same flight and back for my friends wedding in LA! The outbound flight was in Premium, the inbound in regular economy. You are absolutely correct that the attention to detail is unparalleled! In Premium, the flight attendants introduced themselves by name to me and and referred to me by name the whole flight! That’s more than I can say for my Singapore airlines Business experience from Sin-Lhr earlier this year! Their food in was better than most other Business class flights I have taken! I was dreading the economy flight back as I haven’t flown in economy in a while! When I arrived, the crew were wonderful, seat was arguably the best economy seat ever (like you stated) and the food was wonderful again! Ontop of all this, the free WiFi and dine on demand was just the cherry on the cake. Wonderful wonderful airline and i would proudly hold their loyalty programme and continuously fly with them if they had more operations our of London! Just a shame they are based so far away! BA and Virgin please learn from them!

Great video, thanks. We flew IAH-AKL on Air NZ last year and it was great. Good service, comfy and relaxed. And you get to be in NZ at the end of it. Perfect.
They call it the best economy class. But the cabin crew never come around for drinks during mid-flight and the second meal does look below par. On Singapore Airlines flight, you get hot towel service, menu card, cabin crew go around the cabin almost every 30 minutes, offering you drink and service. If Singapore Airline is going to operate LHR-SIN, the business might be booming, their Economy class is using 3-3-3 configuration. all seats are one extra inch wide
Air New Zealand sure does offer a great international product. I flew AKL-SYD and return on their 772 and the seat was so comfy, crew outstanding (as always on ANZ) and i loved the fact that the armrest at the window was moveable to give yourself more room

I have flow Air NZ trans pacific and I can highly recommend their premium economy offering for ultra long hauls. I was extremely skeptical about the 10 abreast 777 for such a long duration, but glad to hear it was comfortable! Unfortunately, for one of my flights I was ticketed for their weird pod PE, but they changed out the cabin a few weeks before my flight to their current PE product.
First time I've watched your videos and I must say I absolutely enjoyed it especially been on Air New Zealand. As a New Zealander I'm so proud our small airline which in my view certainly can give the larger airline's run for their money.

Air New Zealand is one of the safest airlines out there. They also come from New Zealand, which have the nicest and sweetest humans mankind can ever ask for.
@RYAN JARED how so? AKL-PER is a distance of 5,343 km or 3,319 miles. By the definition of Eurocontrol, any distance longer than 4,000 km is counted as long haul. Airlines in the US define long haul flights with a route length of at least 3,000 miles (or 4,800 km). I couldn‘t find a definition by Air New Zealand or by any organization in the Oceanian region, but regardless of that, I would count this route as long haul, as it is already comparable to some transatlantic routes like LHR-JFK. By the way the routes LHR-BOS, DUB-JFK and DUB-BOS are shorter than AKL-PER. In my opinion examples for medium haul are routes from central Europe to Dubai or Doha, or from Auckland to Adelaide and from Melbourne to Bali.
We flew ANZ this summer LHR-LAX-AKL and loved our flight. Excellent service, seat, entertainment....and WiFi. Last year, I did fly in premium economy and it was even better!
I hope one day that Air New Zealand resumes it’s Auckland to Heathrow service ,even with a stop in LAX or Singapore. The flight looks pretty full. I can’t see how Air New Zealand would claim they didn’t make money on the flight.

Btw we already know what makes you happy; Healthwiches with Turkey Sausage, reasonably comfortable seats and food on airplanes that shave a few years off your life. I've been on a Air New Zealand flight, where a flight attendant DID intervene. An elderly passenger asked a young man seated at a window to close his shade. The jerk - with an American accent, unfortunately - refused, and did so with a generous smattering of profanity. The poor old man ran off and got a flight attendant, who effectively shamed this pissant into closing his window shade.
It all depends. If that's a 'day flight', we can't force anyone to close it, but it's 'night flight' we do request to close it and firmly request it if not adhere to. I know cuz I work for them ;)

Hey Scott, great review! I love it that you fly economy and not always business. I'd love to see a long haul economy skill set vid, and also a flying economy in comfort and convenience video.
I flew same route the next day. Had the beef option as mentioned. Was really good. Cabin crew through the cabin every half hour with water. I ordered several gins through app delivered to seat on demand throughout the flight.
I thought it weird too that Scott was without water because Air NZ crew do,as you say,pass through the cabin topping up water every 30 mins or so. Never ever experienced an issue of thirst when flying them. The dine on demand function is for everything else.
Oh and btw, please record the onboard announcements from now on. (esp on airlines with cabin crew that have sexy accents) That way, you can take a break from the voiceover also! Lol! (And it’s the first time I saw a TH-cam celeb give shoutouts to other TH-camrs! So refreshing!) Keep it up! 👍🏽

If you are going from Heathrow to Los Angeles anytime between now and October 2020 make it quick. Unfortunately Air New Zealand will be dropping London to Auckland via Los Angeles but still go as far as LA. Instead a new replacement non stop service will start from Newark International to Auckland on B787-9
I flew BNE-WLG and AKL-BNE in economy back in 1996, and it was very luxurious to a grade 7 child on a school trip on her first commercial and first international flight. I’ve admired them ever since and compared every airline to that standard.
Agree. Air New Zealand is great. Nothing wrong with someone enjoying the view out of the window though, so the flight crew not intervening is as it should be IMHO. Part what makes flying awesome is the possibility to look out over the world. If people want to sleep they can easily get some eye-covers. I think closing the window covering is a waste of a good opportunity to be in awe of nature's majesty. Do try the Business Class one day. I know from personal experience that it is great.
Agreed on the business class. A lot of people don't like the herringbone design pointing into the aisle, but I never thought it was an issue until I started watching flight vloggers who like to nitpick. Plus the soft product is fantastic, the flight attendants are super friendly and seem like real people rather than highly trained robots.

Great Report! I had a very similar experience with ANZ this past March fromAKL-IAH. The crew even came around near landing to offer hard candies! Did you notice all the irreverent book titles on the “wall paper book shelf” in the lavatory? Or the wall paper of the dude looking in from the outside? Every toilet had something different. ANZ offers a top notch long haul product for sure

Love ANZ. You should have seen the business class on their 767, two seats side by side, had window seat so had to step over my seat mate to go to the loo. No winglets either. Ah the 1990s, Great service and experience from Melbourne to Auckland and on to Rarotonga Cook Islands.

In my opinion Air New Zealand sets the highest standard for customer service on the ground and in the air. Their inflight concierge is an awesome service too. Simply the best airline no matter what class you travel in. I’m similar I’m always at the airport 30 minutes before check-in opens. I like the Air NZ business class seat, you just have to remember to wear your best socks. I’m pretty sure Air NZ never through out food, it’s always good.
I sat in Virgin Atlantic’s outward facing business class once, and thought it was great, the seats were good enough, and of course the virgin Atlantic service was amazing
Heathrow Terminal 2 is freaking huge. Most of the international flights leave from the outfield concourse which is a 15-minute walk from the main building.
I flew to Auckland via Vancouver in July. Premium economy. Excellent service that was beyond my expectations. On the return flight I was upgraded to premium for free. It was my 1st time on their airline. I did find the satellite internet to be quite good and even allowed me to upload a TH-cam video from somewhere over Samoa. I'll fly them again next time I'm headed to the land of the kiwi.
I just did a round trip with our National airline, Auckland diirect Chicago 22/9/19 then California Zephyr Amtrak to San Francisco from 26/9-28/9 I then flew home to New Zealand on 2/18/19, highlight of the trip was the train! But wouldn't fly anyone else but Air New Zealand.
Great review again ...Air New Zealand have a great product...apparently their Premium Economy is one of the best available...mind you economy looked pretty good as well and yes they are renowned for their Safety Videos including the ones featuring Lord of the Rings which was mainly filmed in NZ !! I’m flying for the first and last time with ANZ in April (they are stopping the LAX to LHR in October). I usually fly Virgin and feel they feed you something every few hours, 2 main meals and a few snacks in between. Do ANZ only do the 2 meals either end of the flight?

I read that as well. I was planning a some point future trip to LA with ANZ as I go occasionally and make a change that going regularly with BA or VA. They were up against 4 other airlines at Heathrow. They replaced it with Newark as new route but continue flying to LA
For the power and USBs, just need to ask the FAs to enable the power at their terminals... Long haul flights this is a given, but, on regional flights in Europe some cabin crews forget to re-enable them in the air.

Flew AirNZ from LAX-SYD via AKL in May 2019. My first long haul that set the bar high for every other airline. My favorite airline!

Very smart seat design with all the seat amenities right there vs fishing around for power ports while trying not to get too cozy with your neighbors
I usually don’t watch reviews of economy class because there is not much difference in seats and services. But you make it fun to watch!

Part what makes flying awesome is the possibility to look out over the world. If people want to sleep they can easily get some eye-covers. I think closing the window covering is a waste of a good opportunity to be in awe of nature's majesty.
Do try the Business Class one day. I know from personal experience that it is great.
Agreed on the business class. A lot of people don't like the herringbone design pointing into the aisle, but I never thought it was an issue until I started watching flight vloggers who like to nitpick. Plus the soft product is fantastic, the flight attendants are super friendly and seem like real people rather than highly trained robots.

You're sitting in a skycouch row so you get extra legroom and blankets suited for skycouch. Try the rows behind these, they have a smaller pitch
10:20 because its dark n the cabin and don't want to disturb anyone and also your meant to order more drinks which is also free so they don't come to check they will only refill if you order usually

Great Report! I had a very similar experience with ANZ this past March fromAKL-IAH. The crew even came around near landing to offer hard candies!
Did you notice all the irreverent book titles on the “wall paper book shelf” in the lavatory? Or the wall paper of the dude looking in from the outside? Every toilet had something different. ANZ offers a top notch long haul product for sure

You definitely need to come to New Zealand. Ive been in their business class and its definitely awesome on long haul flights. The sky couch in economy is great too

Love ANZ. You should have seen the business class on their 767, two seats side by side, had window seat so had to step over my seat mate to go to the loo. No winglets either. Ah the 1990s, Great service and experience from Melbourne to Auckland and on to Rarotonga Cook Islands.
You get a notification on your inflight entertainment that the bar is open.

Great video. I'll definitely give Air New Zealand a go on my next long haul flight. My previous flight with BA aboard a 777 was awful in economy.
In my opinion Air New Zealand sets the highest standard for customer service on the ground and in the air. Their inflight concierge is an awesome service too.
Simply the best airline no matter what class you travel in.
I’m similar I’m always at the airport 30 minutes before check-in opens.
I like the Air NZ business class seat, you just have to remember to wear your best socks.
I’m pretty sure Air NZ never through out food, it’s always good.
I sat in Virgin Atlantic’s outward facing business class once, and thought it was great, the seats were good enough, and of course the virgin Atlantic service was amazing
Ive done the Chicago to aukland ride a few times. And even though it is around 16 hours it is not that bad.
Heathrow Terminal 2 is freaking huge. Most of the international flights leave from the outfield concourse which is a 15-minute walk from the main building.

I flew to Auckland via Vancouver in July. Premium economy. Excellent service that was beyond my expectations. On the return flight I was upgraded to premium for free. It was my 1st time on their airline. I did find the satellite internet to be quite good and even allowed me to upload a TH-cam video from somewhere over Samoa. I'll fly them again next time I'm headed to the land of the kiwi.
This route will end for ANZ in October 2020. You should do a vlog on that final flight.

I just did a round trip with our National airline, Auckland diirect Chicago 22/9/19 then California Zephyr Amtrak to San Francisco from 26/9-28/9
I then flew home to New Zealand on 2/18/19, highlight of the trip was the train! But wouldn't fly anyone else but Air New Zealand.

Great review again ...Air New Zealand have a great product...apparently their Premium Economy is one of the best available...mind you economy looked pretty good as well and yes they are renowned for their Safety Videos including the ones featuring Lord of the Rings which was mainly filmed in NZ !! I’m flying for the first and last time with ANZ in April (they are stopping the LAX to LHR in October). I usually fly Virgin and feel they feed you something every few hours, 2 main meals and a few snacks in between. Do ANZ only do the 2 meals either end of the flight?
That looks fantastic! Aer Lingus does a surprisingly good trans-Atlantic economy class, but nothing like that.

I read that as well. I was planning a some point future trip to LA with ANZ as I go occasionally and make a change that going regularly with BA or VA. They were up against 4 other airlines at Heathrow. They replaced it with Newark as new route but continue flying to LA

For the power and USBs, just need to ask the FAs to enable the power at their terminals... Long haul flights this is a given, but, on regional flights in Europe some cabin crews forget to re-enable them in the air.
