- Brush Hogs are an extremely versatile bait. They are excellent trailers on jigs, Carolina rigs and Texas rigs. In today’s episode Mark shares a recently learned secret about these baits that most anglers are not aware of.
I was shown this by Shaw years ago and I also cut the flappers with a scissor so they look more like claws. I think it adds to the action. Thanks for sharing the tip!!
This could be one of those things that I’m just WAY late to the party about but I just found out about it!
I do cut the flappers also and I agree it adds to the action. I also cut the loops so it forms a “J” facing in toward the body of the bait.
Thanks for your comment, we appreciate you watching!
Yes, I've been doing both of that for years. I learned it from a YT video.
THANKS!!! I have noticed the difference in the sides for years but never knew why.
You’re welcome.
Thank you for turning in.
Great info! Definitely makes sense. Sometimes it works better then other times . I probably had it upside down.I always have a brushhog on the deck. Definitely one my most confidence baits!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for tuning in!
I saw this about a year ago after YEARS of not knowing it. I think it was tactical bassin. Crazy. One other trick I like to do is pinch those front “arms” off at the rear most connection just so they’ll give a little more movement. Great tip video!
Thank you. We appreciate you tuning in!
I learned that from Tactical Bassin' years ago.
No kidding? This was something I had never heard of.
I'm old as dirt and never new this very cool
Right? Me too!
Wow....never knew this, pretty cool and definitely can make a difference.
Thanks for watching Jeremy!
I’ve knew this for a couple years I learned it from tactical basin I was blown away when I seen it
Yeah I felt the same way when I learned about it!
Yep old news
@barryhowell9 in the immortal words of Taylor Swift, haters gotta hate.
Yes sir also randy blauket taught me to cut front legs from body cut middle of flappers for more action and always always rough the bait up with hands brings salt to surface better and changed to more lifelike look this bait still produces today standing test of time
Randy does put out good quality information. I too make some of those modifications to the brush hog. I just wanted our video to present an aspect of the bait that Randy didn’t point out. We appreciate you commenting and really appreciate you tuning into MFO!
Good stuff! Hula grub and Senko also have a top and bottom
Thanks for the info!
Great information never knew that, and yes I had to go look, lol. Also new subscriber looking forward to more videos as well as catching up.
Jessie, thank you so much. I know, that info about the brush hog made me run down to the barn where my tackle room is to check it out! Thank you again.
Really cool tip! Thanks for sharing

Thanks for tuning in!
Don't mention it, can't wait for your next revolutionary changing fishing " tip '' !@@markfisheroutdoors
I thought it was the other way around so that the flaps would spread out as it fell through the water column.
In my experience they flap on the fall either way you rig it. Check out our underwater Wednesday episode, “jig trailers”.
But I do know that the flappers will only open when pulled over cover when the bait is rigged right side up.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for tuning in!
Thank yu ,,
You’re welcome. We hope you will continue to tune in.
I had no clue the brush hog had a front and back. I like the baby brush hog best. I’ve also got a tip I would like to share with Megan
Thanks for sharing!!
Yo B… uncool comment towards Meg… An apology is in order…
@@paulrowe7880 my tip is that you can use a strike king baby rage craw on an weighted ewg hook for the same effect.
WOW😮
That’s what I said!
hmm not new to me been using it as per instructions since the day it came out... another that kills me is the ned rig , my grandfather and great grandfather made cast to smelt lead jig heads in the 40's still have the molds been fishing that my whole life , yep there were no plastic's back in the early 70's but grandpa always used the verticle jig with live minnows have tons of photo's of massive catches at there lake in canada. i just giggled when the big ned rig bs came out. grew up using them with minnows , big night crawlers, slugs etc. one of the best for smallies was leeches and hellgrammite , worked best when they had there wings ,, use to net them flying being the swarms were so thick.
Thanks for tuning in.
