  • In this video, i chase/clean out the head bolt holes because the ARP instructions tell you to and then install the heads and torque down. Ill review the torque sequence towards the end of the video, picture is at the end. Enjoy,

My 5.3 was only 22ft lbs and then a pass of 90° turns on all of them, and another final pass of 90° turns.

Did anyone else notice the first head he was torquing had 2 different springs then he pulled the rockers and the whole head changed!!!!!!

Good catch, the 2 small springs are checker springs, since are smaller they aren't as stiff as the supplied Corvette valve springs. They allow use to check the valve train on that cylinder by hand for easier adjustment. I then switched heads and worked on the other side, with no checker springs.

When using a torque wrench make sure you use a solid extension rather than 2 put together because it will throw off the torque. FYI. And not a huge fan of how you applied the lube to the bolts and washers, but you were learning at that point so...

What size tap does the 5.3 head bolt hole call for? I have an 09 Silverado that repeatedly drops lifters.

Hi Francois, I used the old head bolts as chasers, cleaners. You may be able to to use partially as taps too. Just cut a line with a hacksaw or cutting wheel down the thread line. you cant reuse the bolts anyway since they are torque to yield...Here's the specs hope this helps: (10) M11 x 2 x 100, (5) M8 x 1.25 x 45

You doing all wrong first tu need to torque 1-10 22 lb-ft
    Then 90°
    Then 70°
The ones in the top torque to 22 ft- lb

That's correct if your using standard head bolts, he's using ARP's, and from what I understand, he did it correctly

Jerson Amilcar ARP Bolts are high quality bolts that require you to torque to their specs only .

  • @MotorsbyShooter

Dude...you need to learn how to hold a torque wrench. You NEVER use the one handed thing with an extension on. All of the bolts you pulled on with one hand did not get the torque you were after. The extension on the socket and the one handed pull got it off center. If you were going for 50 pounds feet...you didnt get there...maybe 47/48 because you were at an angle and not square on the bolt head.
