What a wonderful video. The craftsmanship shown at this location is stunning. I am so glad the brewery and the former tenants didn’t destroy a lot of the original.
Very cool! As an interior designer, I love seeing the beautiful old buildings repurposed like this! Love how they kept some of the old architecture as well.
You were in my state! My first apartment building use to be a funeral home. It was really really cool with doors that slid open and closed into the walls and what not. I loved that old place!
Hi Kari. I love your videos just as much as I love history. There's so much history that is yet to be discovered. It doesn't matter what kind of history. To me history is history.
Is this the same Metcalf family of Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Services that's now on Cascade Rd in GR? I know you mentioned they moved to another site. That was the funeral home we hired for both of my maternal grandparents back in the early 2000's. I was only in elementary school, but I remember the staff being so wonderful.
LOL @ my milkshake playing in the background... who woulda ever thought that something like that would be played in place like that back while it was a funeral home.
I was a transport driver for a Funeral home / Crematory back around 2003/2004 .I did transports for all of the funeral homes around the state of Fla , The Crematory that I worked for went out of business when the husband and wife that owned it went through a divorce .They sold the 2 ovens and other equipment and folded ..A children's daycare / Sunday school took over our old building ..Sometime I wonder if they even know that at one time Bodies were cremated in that building ? ..There was a funeral home in St Petersburg FL that went out of business That I used to do transports to , It was bought out by a health Spa for the Rich ..Sometimes I wonder when they are sitting in a hot tub in that building .if they know that it was once a funeral home ?? Ha ha
Here in the Northeast, we have a few former funeral homes that have been repurposed. Some are medical offices, some attorney practices, real estate offices, etc. The best one was an old Victorian. They turned the first floor into an accounting practice! On a sales call there, I couldn't resist poking them with 'Death & taxes' references. Evidently they repurposed the preparation room for a filing cabinet storage space. Go figure.
@@KaritheMortician Actually, come to think of it, my optometrist's practice is based out of an old late period Victorian, that was once a family funeral home. Actually went to high school with the owner's daughter.
So odd to see this because I JUST (last Thursday) saw a house that looks like it could have previously been a funeral home and I wanted to ask you about it. It's in a historical, predominantly black residential area and there are, currently, a couple funeral homes in old homes.. Most of these are very large, 2 story homes (just to help paint a better picture for you). My question to you is, "would you live in a home if you knew it had been a funeral home?" Since you work in the industry, I'm curious if your views are different than those of us who don't work in that environment. I'm talking about a full renovation so this has nothing to do with the biohazard ick factor. LOL
What a beautiful old building. Nice to know there is life ( in buildings) after death.

This is so fascinating. Thanks for everything you do Kari. Only you can make the subject of death so interesting.❤
As always very interesting and full of information. Good to see the old building living on.
Put the “fun in funeral”....I love it!!!!!

Oh Kari, I love the window that was the doorway. My goodness the wood works so much beautiful antique history.
This is such a beautiful building. I love the stained glass window and the preserved beams.
Very cool place! Thanks for sharing. It looks so cold 🥶 in Grand Rapids. Here in SoCal it’s been in the 80’s. 🌞
Interesting and upbeat! A perfect video for St. Patrick’s Day. Sláinte!
