I think the biggest issue is hypothermia while kayaking in the winter. If something happens and your kayak tips over your in big trouble unless you have a cold weather wet suit on. Warm clothing wont help if it’s wet. In Texas it may not be an issue, but in the Midwest it definitely is. Just something to consider. You have some good ideas especially the skirt. Thanks

Very good point, Terry! I always try to have a dry bag in my kayak for winter paddling that has a change of warm clothes, a couple MRE’s for food and fire starting material, maybe even my one-man tent in the dry bag as well. In 10 years of paddling, I have never unintentionally tipped over in my boat, but accidents do happen, and it’s better to be prepared.

Great advice Cliff, fall and winter paddling is very fun and you’ll likely see birds and mammals that you often don’t see during the warm weather months! Also, coastal waters like ours here on the Chesapeake Bay, clear up and underwater visibility greatly improves, so as you paddle along a shoreline, you’ll see the bottom better along with the shells, fish, oysters, maybe some Indian arrowheads! Great fun! Thank you for the video!

Thanks Ed! That’s a great point about water clarity in the cooler months. I know that is a fact in Texas and Florida. During the warmer months, algae,
plankton flourish which clouds up the water. That goes away in the winter and you are left with much clearer water. Boy, I would love to find some
arrowheads on a paddle! Stay safe!!!

Hi Cliff, a little off topic from the video here but what video editing software do you use? I've been using Vegas pro 18 but the fast forward effect has a pretty bad frame rate drop and just looks bad.

Hi 👋 there Osha - I use FinalCut Pro X from apple on my MacBook Pro! I love the software, it is very intuitive, easy to use and highly customizable! If you have a Mac to run FinalCut, it’s only like $400 for the FCPX software.
