Cheap Drysuit Review - Alibaba Drysuit

  • I have been hearing about these Chinese drysuits from Alibaba for some time now. Several friends and acquaintances have been using them for over a year now and with almost all of them reporting a good experience. I would have never even considered this option except for the the dozens of paddlers telling me about their budget friendly option. So I sprang on the Alibaba drysuit...$260 and three weeks later, it arrived...here is the review!!
    this is the cheapest kayaking drysuit on the market. Does it work???
    kayak campers, kayak fishermen, recreational paddlers and whitewater paddlers on a budget should give this a look!

    Hey Pete,
    Five months later and no issues with my Alibabba dry suit. I'm not near as hard on my suit as you are. Just tour kayaking\camping and fishing. Salt and fresh water. I got it mostly for safety reasons when kayaking in the ocean. I would hate to get rolled and separated from my kayak miles from shore and have no protection from hypothermia. I've had zero problems and the suit has kept me nice and dry in all conditions. waiting for your long term review. Thanks again.

    This is the best review of any product I’ve ever seen. That being said, I pulled the trigger and ordered a suit. My long term plan is; if I can get one Fall/winter season in and upgrade in the spring, this will be money well spent. Best case; I keep it for it’s expected lifecycle and move on from there.

    Hey Pete, I got my dry suit yesterday. It looks like they made some improvements. Starting with the cuffs... Same thick neoprene but tapered so not as bulky. The neck cuff is longer and fully covers the gasket. Still no drain holes though. The skirt tunnel is 9 1/2 inches deep. And now the zipper does go behind the skirt tunnel. The seam tape was really nice. It was centered properly with no wrinkles anywhere. Surprisingly the tape is the same color and texture as the surrounding material making for a very professional look to the seams. I'm 5' 10" 160 lbs and the medium fits perfectly. Couldn't get to the water this weekend so the shower had to do. In the tub I went. Did what i could do to get to leak and nothing. So far I'm very impressed. Can't wait for the long term review.

    I purchased a drysuit brand new about 2 months ago for $460 online and although I only used it 1 time so far I was bone dry after using it and absolutely loved it. Being able to paddle comfortable when I would instead just avoid paddling due to temperatures will make it worth every cent.

    Thanks for a great review. Was in the market for a drysuit for cold weather kayak fishing/duck hunting. Ordered this one from Alibaba on 11/18/22 and received it on 12/22/22. Ordered a medium. I'm 5'6", 150lbs. Shoe size 9. Neck,wrist, and feet fit was good. A bit bulky in the legs and torso but allows for space to layer up. Haven't taken it out yet but first impressions are the quality is great for the price!

      update, I received the drysuit today. Paid $180 plus about $50 for air shipping... I've never ordered off Alibaba before, my advice is to just wait for it to show up and ignore all the notices within the order status.
      I'm about 6'-2" 235lb, I ordered an XL and seems like a good fit that will allow layering beneath. My suit has the drain holes. It seems like decent quality. I don't white water kayak, I mostly kayak fish shallow rivers so hoping this fits the bill.
      Not specific to this suit, but I'm pairing it up with NRS Boundary boots and I'm not crazy about stuffing the foot sock and the pant cuff into the boot... I think I'd prefer a short waterproof shoe that fits under the cuff.
      I'll update after a water test.

    Bought this same drysuit because of this video, used it for the first time today. Looks great, better than I expected actually. My suit has the drain holes in the collar and the sprayskirt fits under the skirt tunnel. Only minor complaint is the wrist seals aren't quite tight enough for me and the sleeves around my wrists were just a little damp, but definitely not soaked (fwiw my Kokotat dry top wrist seals are actually too tight). Otherwise bone dry everywhere else. For about $45 I could switch out the wrist seals but for now it's not bad enough to do anything about. I'm 5'9", 185 and large fits well, a little long but I think a medium would have been too tight in the beer muscle mid section. As long as I get a couple seasons out of it I'll be very happy. Not sure I'd recommend this suit for a multiday extreme expedition but for day trips in not too extreme conditions I think it's a great option.

    Setting quality, price and safety aside, I gotta be in the "support the brands that support whitewater" crowd, as I know you are Pete. The margins in paddling gear, whitewater especially, are so low, you know the companies that make our gear are in it because they support paddling. That should mean something. And that's not a US vs China/Global thing. If some company in China wants sponsor race events and support the community, then we can talk. Again Pete, that's no knock on you, I get what you are doing here, and this is a conversation that should be addressed. I'm just saying, for those that can afford to spend their money on NRS or IR, etc., please do. In some ways, we are a few corporate buy-outs/mergers from not having any whitewater brands left.

      I get what you are saying and I agree. I hope I articulated that well in the video. . However, as I also said in the video, some folks just will not be able to make that purchase. This is an option that is attainable for them and if it can keep them safe...

    If this suit only lasts 4 months and breaks, it would still be cheaper to buy one every year for 6 years, in which time if your punishing your gear a $1,700 dollar big name suit would fail as well or need repairs. @@RiverKingsKayak I just have bought mine ! Pale yellow above, light grey below, cool !! Will share my experience. To complement the suit am currently looking at oceaniasports latex wet gloves, think I'll go for a pair soon ... just try and share again !

    • @Gilloup
      @Gilloup 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have received it, size small. Nice looking outside and inside, latex very stretchy, easy to dress and fits very well the upper part of the body but the legs including their integrated socks are too short, at least for practicing windsurf where one needs to extend legs during waterstart in choppy sea. So I discuss putting down the socks along the trousers. Other issue, the socks are laminate made so they take a lot of space in neopren boots for windsurf / kite /wing, so either I change the socks for latex ones or I buy larger boots. Will let you know more later !

    • @Gilloup
      @Gilloup ปีที่แล้ว

      I have changed the textile socks for latex ones, result is great, feet are kept warm like that. First time I did wing foil with it on a lake at 3.5 celsius degrees out. The suit was overall great except that at or around the fly zipper there has been a light leak all along the zone, not spotted at a place. Is that a seam around the fly or is that the zip itself, I don't know yet. Never used the suit before, was the first time. The leak was spread perfectly horizontally on a 30 40 cm length. I spent a fair amount of time walking in the water up to the belly because the wind refused and the beach was very small. There may be a manufacturing defect ?

    It seems like most people in these comments are pleased with the overall performance of the Alibaba Drysuit. I'm a kayak fisherman in Eastern North Carolina so I thought I'd give it a try. I've used the suit 5-6 times, however, my suit started leaking in the right foot after the third use. In my case I got what I paid for I suppose. I haven't tried to repair it yet but I'm hoping to do an inexpensive repair and see how that goes. I suspect it's leaking at the seams in the foot area. If anyone knows a good youtube link for a DIY repair on a seam leak please let me know. For me, this was suit was a swing and a miss.

    • @RiverKingsKayak
      @RiverKingsKayak  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Dang. 3 times is not enough life out of the suit. Not knowing much about your trips, and not trying to defend this suit, I would say that wearing a thin pair of neoprene socks over the drysuit booties then putting your river shoes/boots on is common practice for us. Never step in dirt or sand etc, with the drysuit socks. These two things will do more to prolong the life of the suit than anything else I believe. The booties are always the first to start getting damp. Any grit against that bootie material will just grind away at the fabric and create micro leaks. All that being said. I hate to hear that it failed so quickly - 3 uses before leaking is a failure for me. Mine has probably 35 uses (some pretty abusive) and is still going strong at mostly dry. Thanks for posting this!! It will help others making their decisions. Keep me posted on the repair.

    Got one on order after watching this vid. One note about how intrusive Alibaba is - I have no doubt it is a loyal arm of the CCP. As soon as I ordered this, my computer has been INUNDATED with Alibaba ads, much of which is overt objectification of women.Top, left and right margins of my Chrome browser are totally occupied by Alibaba adverts. I just bought Govee string LEDs from Amazon and the product has bluetooth connectivity. Yet, when I ran the Govee app it wanted to know my location and wanted me to give it password access to my home's WiFi router. To boot, the LED string has a microphone. Think about how the CCP is trying to infiltrate our institutions and control our personal lives.
