As mainly an explorer, my first instinct when encountering another ship is to arm the self destruct. Nobody's crazy enough to go out here so I'm probably seeing things and it's time to hand in the towel.
Correction, Attilius Orbital in CD-43 11917, my Home Base, also sell every ship and module at a discount. Requires a CQC Prestige permit as it is the CQC holding system. Much nicer than Jameson Memorial and better crowd.
Yeah, I don't usually point out that station since you have to have prestige in CQC for it but it's a good point none the less. The real benefit - the FDL at a 30% discount.
I haven't even started watching and I'm already giving thumbs up. I love both the chapter blocks on the video progress bar as well as the timestamps in the description. Very nice!
Well thank you very much as I do pride myself on all of that - and keeping the videos as clear, concise and to the point as possible. As for how you make them - well in the video that's with editing - for the TH-cam scrub bar it's easy, you add chapter markers to the description and they auto-generate them for you. So just scroll down in the description and you'll see how it's done, it's very easy. They added that back in May, I'd like to think based on me adding the upper progress bar over a year ago to my videos. :D
I used to play in open play as a matter of habit. Had a few nice interactions with people. But after repeated ganking and attempted ganking in a row. I just decided that private group play with online friends was the better option.
I have the same thing happen to me. I decided to become competent in shipbuilding and PVP. I personally never touch private groups or solo mode. It feels good once you have the competency to fly anywhere and do whatever you want and not worry about someone killing you. There are ways to design mining ships, PVE and exploration ships to endure a gank attempt. Understanding how to read your you I can also give you an advantage. Taking notes of players Squadron tags and weapon Loadout can also give you an advantage. There are also little things that you can do to make it harder for anyone to gank you. Staying close to a planet's surface we'll keep them from interdicting you. Setting them up to wear when they pull you oh, you can slam into the rings of a planet or a planet itself and lose them. It is also a good idea in dangerous systems to plot a high wake the moment you drop into the star. Once you get good at being defensive and have good engineering the game takes on a whole new level of fun. A lot of people like myself used to enjoy knowing that there is someone out there trying to kill me.
I did start with Elite Dangerous about a month ago. I met only six human players and all these six veterans pulled me out of supercruse and then killed me in less then 5 seconds. No chat, no reason, no challange, no expaination. 3 times they where waiting for noobs at the first engineer and the other 3 times when I tried to deliver for the community goal to build starports for THEIR carrieres. It's not like I need new starports for my first medium ship! So far Elite Dangerous is the first game I know where you have to do community goals in single player. :-D
Yeah, it's a bummer that you ran into murder hobos that quickly - as sadly some just wanna see the world burn. I sincerely hope that doesn't put you off playing in open, at least once you've got more time and can build a proper ship with proper defenses. The best way to avoid this at engineering bases is make sure you take a steep angle of approach from glide/supercruise such that when you drop out you're already within the no-fire zone. That way if they do shoot at you, or even kill you, they will almost certainly be killed by the station. As with everything there is a right way to deal with these folks as you can be 100% safe if you fly heads up.
I love most friendly player interactions. They really enlighten my experience. However I hopped on a fleet carrier going 16K LY away before everything went down in the empire/ community goal
Well done video, Exigeous. I still find that I am reluctant to go into open. Lasting effects of getting tormented during my first few hours playing the game when I had absolutely no clue what was going on when dishonorable ganking idiots were picking on the newbie I suppose. Watching my beginner Sidewinder blow up time and again while getting mocked got old real quick. My f--- you to them was to just go solo and enjoy the slow ride. Which I have enjoyed it. Yeah, I'm missing out on the social aspect of the game but it does not bother me much.
I have more than enough humans in my real life. Gaming as a type of escapism is my way to limit meeting more humans. I don't hate other people I just feel better when they're not around.
Word of the wise. Run in solo if your doing anything you'd hate to lose progress doing, like trade/cg missions due to how easy it is to troll/gank in elite dangerous. Security in systems is basically on par with mail cops. However, if you insist on playing on open anyways, you must outfit to at least be able to withstand a hostile encounter. So no full trader builds.
Krylic in the recent burning stations I was using my type 9 sheildless build in open....no problem....however next time I logged on to use my medium trader, a python with the usual fruit, I was targeted and repeatedly killed. Go figure...
@@Exigeous it is indeed rumored the clank of a limpet on a cargo hatch is so mind-numbingly severe that it can implode most ships under 4700 hull strength. and severely warp the metal of ships over 5k
Power Play discord groups are a good way to find people. As I learned from the Fuel Rats. To same instance wing up, wing beacon, super cruise to normal and that should put you in the same instance.

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't mind the fact that Open can be a very dangerous place. It doesn't bother me that there are people trying to hunt me down for no other reason than to kill me, even if I'm doing something that I could lose progress in; otherwise, where's the risk? When I chose to play in Open, I consented to PvP from every single other player in the game, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
After unprovoked attack #37 and my 20th rebuy I swore to never play in open again. Unless you're a combat pilot with a dedicated PvP build there's just no point in playing in open IMO.
Doh! I always thought seeing a hollow triangle while in supercruise meant someone had their FSD interdictor deployed and was looking for trouble, so I'd take exercise maximum precautions. Now I learn they could just be honking the system.
If you drop into a popular system and someone attacks, you can try dropping a quick message on the system chat asking for help. Believe it or not, sometimes commanders will rush to your aide. You could also ask the person lighting you up to stop and explain why (rigged for exploration, can't fight back, don't have anything of value, etc...) SOMETIMES that works. Both tips have gotten me out of some tough situations before. The very first time I jumped into Sol I was attacked by a ganker. I told him this was my first time in Sol, I had no hardpoints and Just wanted to check out the solar system. If he wanted a fair fight, I said, I'd call in my combat ship. He agreed, letting me explore Sol until my combat ship arrived. Good bloke. So I got a good twenty minutes to explore, then I landed, grabbed my cheapest ship (I bluffed, I had no combat ship at the time) took off and was immediately blown to hell. But the tactic saved the millions of credits in cartographical data I was carrying. LOL.

I've been playing almost exclusively in open and of the few times I've seen an actual person I've never ran into a hostile person. The closest I've found to finding a human in the black was finding an active fleet carrier. Too bad they don't think about redoing the way open mode works and consider finding a way to make it so everyone in open is always in the same instance. But I suppose the current p2p setup is less stressful on their servers. I've been thinking of joining a squadron but I've been hesitant since I only play a couple days a week and I don't know how active they expect you to be.

Doing the community goal currently in a weaponless cargo-conda, so i think ill stay in private with some buddies for that lol, already been blown up twice (all in good fun, they were RP pirates and made a good show of it)
That's awesome to hear you ran across some actual pirates - the murder hobos usually give us a bad name and sadly scare guys like you out of open. That said if they blew you up that's a pretty shitty pirate as if I kill you I can't steal from you and as such I lose! As for weapons don't worry about those for a trade ship as you'll likely never be able to fight a true combat build - as for proper defenses, now that's what you want. You can easily make an Anaconda basically unkillable with a class 5/6 prismatic and a bunch of E rated HD boosters. So when you do venture back into open I hope you'll give that a go.
I don't know if you know this guy but I have had the extreme displeasure of CMDR Doug Stinemann (I don't know if he is a pirate, tanker, or both) turning my ships into debris fields, last time it happens was when Borann was in the last few months of it's LTD rush. Needless to say, I have been doing Solo Mode ever since to work on a ship build that would give me a fighting chance against him should I ever run into him again. Same goes for CMDR Polyphemus. I personally won't single them out to get revenge but I plan to give them a rude awakening should they try some funny business with me again.
I completely agree with this - across my accounts I have over 7000 hours at this point and have spent less than $200 for that time - amazing value for money isn't it?

Isn’t there also platform-specific limitations on player instancing for example Ps4 players can’t ever see pc players no matter if they are in same private group etc? Correct me if I’m wrong. What about console to console - can ps4 commanders play with x-box? Thanks for the vid but I think this is a critical detail to cover off, cheers. Addendum: not sure console commanders can use ed market connector either so won’t show up in edsm. Again let me know if I’m wrong on this.
As I don't play on console I cant comment - other than there is NO cross play, so PS4 would see PS4 and Xbox see Xbox. I believe the limits are the same as PC as they are server side, 20,000 in a single private group. On PC you can have as many as 128 in an instance, at least that's the most I've ever seen.

I’ve been killed every single time I’ve played in open 😔 once just flying through some canyons on a plant in the middle of no where for no reason other than to kill me. Lol
I looked it up elite has over 14million players with 400 billion systems so thats over 28,000 star systems per player so if the whole player base was put on the same map at the same time and spread out evenly across the galaxy the chance of running into another player is low.
@@Supremax67 Yeah group finder is essential in mmo games like I play on ps4 solo but wanted to check out private and check it out but there is no listings of private servers I could look through to find one that matches my play style and been trying to find a website that may have a list.
I have to say that every time I've seen another player they've open fire on me, either saying they're with the Thargoids in chat or not saying anything and just blowing me up to be pirates. Once they even destroyed my ship when trying to leave a planetary base. Another was a three ship pirate wing taking my diamonds and opals after hours of mining. I stay in Private now at all times.
"just blowing me up to be pirates" - this is a nonsensical statements, pirates sends you messages and try to steal from you, gankers/griefers/murder-hobos shoot to kill. As a PvP pirate there is a HUGE difference.
@@Exigeous I'm not sure what to call it then. They interdicted me and just started shooting, then their friends jumped in. I knew they were being pirates because they used the hatchbreakers.
I'll never understand why people let a single bad experience in the most dangerous system in the game keep them from playing with others "ever since". I assume you've been killed by NPCs many, many more times than that, right? Does that keep you out of the game entirely?

Ok, so I'm still fairly new to the game, playing casually for 3 months or so. Never done mining nor combat. For 2+ months I was operating a single jump taxi service mixed with the occasional sightseeing trip if it was deemed profitable enough. I didn't get bored, but about 3 weeks ago I decided upon a change. To head to Colonia and go from there. All this in a 37ly jump Asp explorer. Well now I'm on what is seeming like a circumnavigation of the galaxy, about 13kly beyond Colonia, currently questioning whether to divert to Beagle Point, but with a certain intent to detour to Sag A at some point on the trip. The scariest thing so far? Having had an entirely uninterrupted stream of undiscovered systems since a few jumps beyond Colonia, I jumped to two stars within a nebula which had been discovered previously. It was unsettling. I guess the point of this message is just to say that some of us prefer to be out there alone. my experience beyond Colonia also emphasises just how incredibly large the galaxy is. 5 year into the game and I must have had an uninterrupted run of 200 systems undiscovered. The game blows my mind. Thankyou CMDR, your vids have taught me a great deal.
Completely 100% understand that many like to play Elite solo - what I think a lot forget that even if you choose to play in solo Elite is NOT a "single player game", it's a multiplayer game you can choose to play solo/alone - and if that's what you enjoy awesome, keep enjoying it! Oh, and when you do get back the first thing to do - unlock the Guardian FSD booster - that module alone would add 10.5 LY of range to your Asp without any engineering and it takes about 90 minutes to unlock.
Well you'd be shocked to learn in college I was a music performance major, which means I taught music (mainly saxophone but other wind instruments) and professionally I've done a lot of technical training. Shocking I know :D I left music school to play on the road for a few years as while I enjoy teaching there wasn't a chance in hell I was going to be a high school band director. The shit teachers have to deal with, especially band directors was in no way something I was willing to do professionally.
@JACK ILLER yeah, I am new to the game, so I stopped playing open play when I left the newcomer bubble and didn't realize I couldn't go back. I just have had bad experiences with other players in games. I wanted to get set up, the ships I want, have a better understanding of the game first.
@JACK ILLER exactly, I have the Corvette now, done the first few engineers but not all the modules of course. I grinded for the Cutter but I haven't purchased it yet. Made sure to unlock the system with the discount. Once I get I think I'll work on the guardian modules. There's a lot to do in the game for sure.
Not gonna fly in open. It is absolutely pointless. You’ll either pass people by completely or get instantly blown up with no chance of escaping. Why would I willingly chose that?
Seems you need to watch the Surviving Open guide as A: you'll see plenty of others in these systems B: the VAST majority will not attack you C: you have every chance of escaping (did you not see me escape a Corvette in my T9 in the video?) and D: it's a video game and I promise you seeing your digital spaceship explode has never harmed anyone, do you avoid the game because NPCs have destroyed you? Again you do you and enjoy your playstyle but for MANY of us the added danger, in Elite 'Dangerous' adds a whole new level of excitement.
I tried playing open for the first time last week. Bought a beluga, no shields all cabins, started doing a passenger missions, was interdicted, no time for chit chat to tell them I had no intention of fighting them, blew me up with one shot, and I’ll never get that time back. Went back to playing in solo and enjoyed playing again ever since :) I have a long todo list of things I want to get done in Elite, I don’t want snot nose punks making that todo list to take even longer to finish and maybe when I’m done with that it will be fun to come back to open for ganker hunting.

Nobody says this is a singleplayer game, but it's a game of your choice, enjoy the game or be someone's target. Thanks to ED devs we have more options to avoid bullies. Open play no thx, I'd rather play alone than with people whose only hobby is destruction , whether you are an exolorer, a miner or just a beginner. The video is ok, but keep your invitations in open play to yourself. Because in the end it's just your vision of open play.
Interesting, I didn't realize I was able to enact my "vision" on the game or anyone else. Awesome, I'll have to remember that. Funny that I've seen literally hundreds of players in open who've not attacked me and many who have, but hey you keep painting everyone with that big brush and you do you. Oh and yes, MANY people over the years have told me Elite is a single player game, maybe they haven't told you that but see others will have different experiences than you do. Again if you don't want to see your digital spaceship blown up by a human, only an NPC, then awesome but I'm guessing you don't avoid solo and private because NPCs can interdict, attack and kill you just because you're carrying cargo, right?
If your ship was destroyed in less than a minute you clearly weren't running a build you should have been in open flying - as if you're going take the extra risk of open you have to plan accordingly. I hope you'll see my Beginners Guide to Open as I don't see why someone would let seeing a digital space ship explode one time, when I assume NPCs have killed you dozens and dozens of times, keep them from ever playing with others.

in the beginning I enjoyed human interaction then I got out of the newbie area and the griefing began ... So I play in solo , I am not good at PVP and would rather not go broke because of bored ass holes
I've seen a whole lot of complaining about how no one flies in Open anymore the last 2 weeks. Usually by Gankers. Stop Ganking and people will come back to Open, idiots. As long as there are rampant barely punished Gankers, Open will remain a ghost town. And an appreciable percentage of new players (who often stumble into Gank hotspots unaware) will continue to be driven away from the game. Stay out of Open, go to Mobius or other private groups until FDev wises up and makes an official no PvP mode.
In Theory, i'm all for open play and the occasional PvP encounters. But in practice and with the rebuy cost, i'm not. If it was purely a PvP game then i would accept it, but it's not. So i play solo or in groups where no PvP is allowed unless agreed upon (like Mobius). Then, and only then, if i want to PvP, i'll join open. Getting ganked everywhere by griefers, like in EVE is no fun no matter what your opinions of the gameplay are. Yes, the players in ED are much nicer than in EVE, but there are still those who find it amusing to grief others. Also, my PvP skills in this game are pretty non-existant as i haven't had much practice. Oh, and i LOL'd when CMDR picard's left nut came online :P
@William00048 I've been an mmorpg-player since Earth & Beyond, SWG, EQ2, SWToR etc. So i imagine a squadron group is kinda like a guild huh? Well, Mobius might be big, but may lack a certain personal touch, in terms of everyone knowing each other. That said, bigger is not always better.
One day, I went to mining with my Python. And on the way back, I got interdicted, few Ls from the station. I thought It was just a random npc pirate. But I noticed something, I was aiming for escape vector most of the time, but I was not making any progress at escaping literally. Submitted. An Anaconda, asked for 30 painites, I refused, I died. And that was the moment I told myself that there were players around. Cool experience.
Glad you realized that was a "cool experience" as I always advise people - if you get messages from someone who is role playing pirate role play right back! I know for me and all the other actual pirates I know we do it for one reason - to interact with other human players. That's it, period. If I stop you and demand cargo and you say "I really can't spare it" I'll likely just let you go as you stopped and chatted with me. If someone just starts shooting run as that's not a pirate, it's a murder hobo.
Rubbish, it's a single player game. I've been to this "highly populated base" many times somehow always alone. A game you play for half an hour to an hour. Spend the above time in online research for a CHANCE to see another human. I played this for over a year in open play and saw only one human player, tried to talk to them but they hyper-spaced out.
You don't have to put up a fight - as being blunt you'll likely never be able to hang with the top pilots as I usually can't, so focus on proper defenses and how to escape. It's a ton of fun to have a Corvette or Cutter grab my Type-9 then see my high wake as I escape because they can't kill me.
@@Exigeous thanks! Im still learning the terms too. I don't know the difference in wakes and jumps and when I was ganked I fumbled and didn't even have time to look at the cmdr name. All I know is I was interdicted and couldn't get away( learned from you not to try, afterward) and a fer de lance hit me with something big and corrosive and my asp explorer became an asp exploder lol. I've partially engineered most of the stuff on a krait mk2 and I have a guardian booster so I can jump about 50. I'm finally set up to explorer with some redundancies and repairs, with a few re-buys. I'll start playing open when I get back from work IRL. You're right. Most interactions can't be so abrupt and without communication. I don't have a problem with ganking either. I was just a noob. Still kinda am, lol. Have a great day.
Im on PS4, I heard through the grapevine that someone was greefing at the damaged station in Cemiess. So I decided to get my Sidewinder and go see. It took one minute for said greefer to find me in his Clipper, and even less time for him to interdict me and destroy my ship. I may have passive aggressively egged him on, by naming my ship GREEFERS SUCK with the ship I.D. - ASS!! 😂 This was my first time in open.

Well done video, Exigeous. I still find that I am reluctant to go into open. Lasting effects of getting tormented during my first few hours playing the game when I had absolutely no clue what was going on when dishonorable ganking idiots were picking on the newbie I suppose. Watching my beginner Sidewinder blow up time and again while getting mocked got old real quick. My f--- you to them was to just go solo and enjoy the slow ride. Which I have enjoyed it. Yeah, I'm missing out on the social aspect of the game but it does not bother me much.
I have more than enough humans in my real life. Gaming as a type of escapism is my way to limit meeting more humans.
I don't hate other people I just feel better when they're not around.
Word of the wise. Run in solo if your doing anything you'd hate to lose progress doing, like trade/cg missions due to how easy it is to troll/gank in elite dangerous. Security in systems is basically on par with mail cops.
However, if you insist on playing on open anyways, you must outfit to at least be able to withstand a hostile encounter. So no full trader builds.
Krylic in the recent burning stations I was using my type 9 sheildless build in open....no problem....however next time I logged on to use my medium trader, a python with the usual fruit, I was targeted and repeatedly killed. Go figure...

Power Play discord groups are a good way to find people. As I learned from the Fuel Rats. To same instance wing up, wing beacon, super cruise to normal and that should put you in the same instance.

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't mind the fact that Open can be a very dangerous place. It doesn't bother me that there are people trying to hunt me down for no other reason than to kill me, even if I'm doing something that I could lose progress in; otherwise, where's the risk? When I chose to play in Open, I consented to PvP from every single other player in the game, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
After unprovoked attack #37 and my 20th rebuy I swore to never play in open again. Unless you're a combat pilot with a dedicated PvP build there's just no point in playing in open IMO.
Doh! I always thought seeing a hollow triangle while in supercruise meant someone had their FSD interdictor deployed and was looking for trouble, so I'd take exercise maximum precautions. Now I learn they could just be honking the system.
If you drop into a popular system and someone attacks, you can try dropping a quick message on the system chat asking for help. Believe it or not, sometimes commanders will rush to your aide. You could also ask the person lighting you up to stop and explain why (rigged for exploration, can't fight back, don't have anything of value, etc...) SOMETIMES that works. Both tips have gotten me out of some tough situations before.
The very first time I jumped into Sol I was attacked by a ganker. I told him this was my first time in Sol, I had no hardpoints and Just wanted to check out the solar system. If he wanted a fair fight, I said, I'd call in my combat ship. He agreed, letting me explore Sol until my combat ship arrived. Good bloke. So I got a good twenty minutes to explore, then I landed, grabbed my cheapest ship (I bluffed, I had no combat ship at the time) took off and was immediately blown to hell. But the tactic saved the millions of credits in cartographical data I was carrying. LOL.

Im on xbox and play in open......for maybe a month now I haven't come close to seeing anyone human, still fun though!
I've been playing almost exclusively in open and of the few times I've seen an actual person I've never ran into a hostile person. The closest I've found to finding a human in the black was finding an active fleet carrier. Too bad they don't think about redoing the way open mode works and consider finding a way to make it so everyone in open is always in the same instance. But I suppose the current p2p setup is less stressful on their servers. I've been thinking of joining a squadron but I've been hesitant since I only play a couple days a week and I don't know how active they expect you to be.

Doing the community goal currently in a weaponless cargo-conda, so i think ill stay in private with some buddies for that lol, already been blown up twice (all in good fun, they were RP pirates and made a good show of it)
That's awesome to hear you ran across some actual pirates - the murder hobos usually give us a bad name and sadly scare guys like you out of open. That said if they blew you up that's a pretty shitty pirate as if I kill you I can't steal from you and as such I lose!
As for weapons don't worry about those for a trade ship as you'll likely never be able to fight a true combat build - as for proper defenses, now that's what you want. You can easily make an Anaconda basically unkillable with a class 5/6 prismatic and a bunch of E rated HD boosters. So when you do venture back into open I hope you'll give that a go.
I don't know if you know this guy but I have had the extreme displeasure of CMDR Doug Stinemann (I don't know if he is a pirate, tanker, or both) turning my ships into debris fields, last time it happens was when Borann was in the last few months of it's LTD rush. Needless to say, I have been doing Solo Mode ever since to work on a ship build that would give me a fighting chance against him should I ever run into him again. Same goes for CMDR Polyphemus. I personally won't single them out to get revenge but I plan to give them a rude awakening should they try some funny business with me again.

Isn’t there also platform-specific limitations on player instancing for example Ps4 players can’t ever see pc players no matter if they are in same private group etc? Correct me if I’m wrong. What about console to console - can ps4 commanders play with x-box? Thanks for the vid but I think this is a critical detail to cover off, cheers. Addendum: not sure console commanders can use ed market connector either so won’t show up in edsm. Again let me know if I’m wrong on this.
As I don't play on console I cant comment - other than there is NO cross play, so PS4 would see PS4 and Xbox see Xbox. I believe the limits are the same as PC as they are server side, 20,000 in a single private group. On PC you can have as many as 128 in an instance, at least that's the most I've ever seen.

I looked it up elite has over 14million players with 400 billion systems so thats over 28,000 star systems per player so if the whole player base was put on the same map at the same time and spread out evenly across the galaxy the chance of running into another player is low.

I have to say that every time I've seen another player they've open fire on me, either saying they're with the Thargoids in chat or not saying anything and just blowing me up to be pirates. Once they even destroyed my ship when trying to leave a planetary base. Another was a three ship pirate wing taking my diamonds and opals after hours of mining. I stay in Private now at all times.
"just blowing me up to be pirates" - this is a nonsensical statements, pirates sends you messages and try to steal from you, gankers/griefers/murder-hobos shoot to kill. As a PvP pirate there is a HUGE difference.
@@Exigeous I'm not sure what to call it then. They interdicted me and just started shooting, then their friends jumped in. I knew they were being pirates because they used the hatchbreakers.
Met a human when I first jumped into Shinrata in open, me in my unarmed Asp Ex. Immediately ganked, and solo ever since LOL :)
I'll never understand why people let a single bad experience in the most dangerous system in the game keep them from playing with others "ever since". I assume you've been killed by NPCs many, many more times than that, right? Does that keep you out of the game entirely?

A the ganker will go for you again for having crimes (not too common)
B it won’t matter because all you have to do is.... nothing. Being wanted means basically nothing

Ok, so I'm still fairly new to the game, playing casually for 3 months or so. Never done mining nor combat. For 2+ months I was operating a single jump taxi service mixed with the occasional sightseeing trip if it was deemed profitable enough. I didn't get bored, but about 3 weeks ago I decided upon a change. To head to Colonia and go from there. All this in a 37ly jump Asp explorer. Well now I'm on what is seeming like a circumnavigation of the galaxy, about 13kly beyond Colonia, currently questioning whether to divert to Beagle Point, but with a certain intent to detour to Sag A at some point on the trip.
The scariest thing so far? Having had an entirely uninterrupted stream of undiscovered systems since a few jumps beyond Colonia, I jumped to two stars within a nebula which had been discovered previously. It was unsettling. I guess the point of this message is just to say that some of us prefer to be out there alone. my experience beyond Colonia also emphasises just how incredibly large the galaxy is. 5 year into the game and I must have had an uninterrupted run of 200 systems undiscovered. The game blows my mind.

Completely 100% understand that many like to play Elite solo - what I think a lot forget that even if you choose to play in solo Elite is NOT a "single player game", it's a multiplayer game you can choose to play solo/alone - and if that's what you enjoy awesome, keep enjoying it!
Oh, and when you do get back the first thing to do - unlock the Guardian FSD booster - that module alone would add 10.5 LY of range to your Asp without any engineering and it takes about 90 minutes to unlock.

Well you'd be shocked to learn in college I was a music performance major, which means I taught music (mainly saxophone but other wind instruments) and professionally I've done a lot of technical training. Shocking I know :D
I left music school to play on the road for a few years as while I enjoy teaching there wasn't a chance in hell I was going to be a high school band director. The shit teachers have to deal with, especially band directors was in no way something I was willing to do professionally.
I play Solo to avoid finding other humans.
@JACK ILLER yeah, I am new to the game, so I stopped playing open play when I left the newcomer bubble and didn't realize I couldn't go back. I just have had bad experiences with other players in games. I wanted to get set up, the ships I want, have a better understanding of the game first.
@JACK ILLER exactly, I have the Corvette now, done the first few engineers but not all the modules of course. I grinded for the Cutter but I haven't purchased it yet. Made sure to unlock the system with the discount. Once I get I think I'll work on the guardian modules. There's a lot to do in the game for sure.

Not gonna fly in open. It is absolutely pointless. You’ll either pass people by completely or get instantly blown up with no chance of escaping. Why would I willingly chose that?
Agreed there is no advantage at all to risk flying in Open.
I fly on open, and iv never seen a person ever.
Seems you need to watch the Surviving Open guide as A: you'll see plenty of others in these systems B: the VAST majority will not attack you C: you have every chance of escaping (did you not see me escape a Corvette in my T9 in the video?) and D: it's a video game and I promise you seeing your digital spaceship explode has never harmed anyone, do you avoid the game because NPCs have destroyed you? Again you do you and enjoy your playstyle but for MANY of us the added danger, in Elite 'Dangerous' adds a whole new level of excitement.
I prefer aliens to most humans I've met.

I tried playing open for the first time last week. Bought a beluga, no shields all cabins, started doing a passenger missions, was interdicted, no time for chit chat to tell them I had no intention of fighting them, blew me up with one shot, and I’ll never get that time back. Went back to playing in solo and enjoyed playing again ever since :) I have a long todo list of things I want to get done in Elite, I don’t want snot nose punks making that todo list to take even longer to finish and maybe when I’m done with that it will be fun to come back to open for ganker hunting.

Nobody says this is a singleplayer game, but it's a game of your choice, enjoy the game or be someone's target. Thanks to ED devs we have more options to avoid bullies. Open play no thx, I'd rather play alone than with people whose only hobby is destruction , whether you are an exolorer, a miner or just a beginner. The video is ok, but keep your invitations in open play to yourself. Because in the end it's just your vision of open play.
Interesting, I didn't realize I was able to enact my "vision" on the game or anyone else. Awesome, I'll have to remember that. Funny that I've seen literally hundreds of players in open who've not attacked me and many who have, but hey you keep painting everyone with that big brush and you do you. Oh and yes, MANY people over the years have told me Elite is a single player game, maybe they haven't told you that but see others will have different experiences than you do. Again if you don't want to see your digital spaceship blown up by a human, only an NPC, then awesome but I'm guessing you don't avoid solo and private because NPCs can interdict, attack and kill you just because you're carrying cargo, right?
I tried open just once. In less than a minute from logging in my ship was destroyed.
Unlikely I will try it again.
I've been playing for 600 hours plus and never had even an attempted ganking.
If your ship was destroyed in less than a minute you clearly weren't running a build you should have been in open flying - as if you're going take the extra risk of open you have to plan accordingly. I hope you'll see my Beginners Guide to Open as I don't see why someone would let seeing a digital space ship explode one time, when I assume NPCs have killed you dozens and dozens of times, keep them from ever playing with others.

I've seen a whole lot of complaining about how no one flies in Open anymore the last 2 weeks. Usually by Gankers.
Stop Ganking and people will come back to Open, idiots.
As long as there are rampant barely punished Gankers, Open will remain a ghost town. And an appreciable percentage of new players (who often stumble into Gank hotspots unaware) will continue to be driven away from the game.
Stay out of Open, go to Mobius or other private groups until FDev wises up and makes an official no PvP mode.
Hopefully my two combat vessel projects FNS Seraph and FNS Archangel will deal with them just fine.
In Theory, i'm all for open play and the occasional PvP encounters. But in practice and with the rebuy cost, i'm not. If it was purely a PvP game then i would accept it, but it's not. So i play solo or in groups where no PvP is allowed unless agreed upon (like Mobius). Then, and only then, if i want to PvP, i'll join open. Getting ganked everywhere by griefers, like in EVE is no fun no matter what your opinions of the gameplay are. Yes, the players in ED are much nicer than in EVE, but there are still those who find it amusing to grief others. Also, my PvP skills in this game are pretty non-existant as i haven't had much practice. Oh, and i LOL'd when CMDR picard's left nut came online :P
@William00048 That's why i mentioned Mobius. A huge player group, where you can play together cooperatively without forced PvP :)
@William00048 I've been an mmorpg-player since Earth & Beyond, SWG, EQ2, SWToR etc. So i imagine a squadron group is kinda like a guild huh? Well, Mobius might be big, but may lack a certain personal touch, in terms of everyone knowing each other. That said, bigger is not always better.

One day, I went to mining with my Python. And on the way back, I got interdicted, few Ls from the station. I thought It was just a random npc pirate. But I noticed something, I was aiming for escape vector most of the time, but I was not making any progress at escaping literally. Submitted. An Anaconda, asked for 30 painites, I refused, I died. And that was the moment I told myself that there were players around. Cool experience.
Glad you realized that was a "cool experience" as I always advise people - if you get messages from someone who is role playing pirate role play right back! I know for me and all the other actual pirates I know we do it for one reason - to interact with other human players. That's it, period. If I stop you and demand cargo and you say "I really can't spare it" I'll likely just let you go as you stopped and chatted with me. If someone just starts shooting run as that's not a pirate, it's a murder hobo.
Rubbish, it's a single player game. I've been to this "highly populated base" many times somehow always alone.
A game you play for half an hour to an hour.
Spend the above time in online research for a CHANCE to see another human.
I played this for over a year in open play and saw only one human player, tried to talk to them but they hyper-spaced out.
It's not necessary to deploy hardpoints to interdict someone. You can get ganked by a hollow square.
open play has ganking and grieving player that want to ruin your game.
After I can put up a fight, I’ll play open.
You don't have to put up a fight - as being blunt you'll likely never be able to hang with the top pilots as I usually can't, so focus on proper defenses and how to escape. It's a ton of fun to have a Corvette or Cutter grab my Type-9 then see my high wake as I escape because they can't kill me.
@@Exigeous thanks! Im still learning the terms too. I don't know the difference in wakes and jumps and when I was ganked I fumbled and didn't even have time to look at the cmdr name. All I know is I was interdicted and couldn't get away( learned from you not to try, afterward) and a fer de lance hit me with something big and corrosive and my asp explorer became an asp exploder lol. I've partially engineered most of the stuff on a krait mk2 and I have a guardian booster so I can jump about 50. I'm finally set up to explorer with some redundancies and repairs, with a few re-buys. I'll start playing open when I get back from work IRL. You're right. Most interactions can't be so abrupt and without communication. I don't have a problem with ganking either. I was just a noob. Still kinda am, lol. Have a great day.

Im on PS4, I heard through the grapevine that someone was greefing at the damaged station in Cemiess. So I decided to get my Sidewinder and go see. It took one minute for said greefer to find me in his Clipper, and even less time for him to interdict me and destroy my ship. I may have passive aggressively egged him on, by naming my ship GREEFERS SUCK with the ship I.D. - ASS!! 😂
