@bsmith4u2 Great question. I owned the first Honda with cylinder deactivation. It was a 2008 Accord with a 3.5 liter engine that started using oil at around 120,000 miles. The car was maintained by the book, literally. By 150,000 miles it was using a quart every 1,000 miles. And it had several other issues. One being the front cam shaft had to be replaced because a love has become pitted. It was basically worthless at 150,000 miles. We “traded”, i.e. gave it to a Toyota dealer for a 2016 4Runner SR5 4WD. Which was a fabulous car and zero problems at 80k miles.

I was also a longtime 2004 manual 4-banger Tacoma owner, and when I got a new job that I had to drive through downtown LA all the time, I needed to go for an automatic truck when I got to 200K miles on my Tacoma. I test drove the Chevy Colorado, the Ford Maverick, a new Tacoma, and then the Ridgeline. I dont ever tow, I just move large furniture, tool boxes, or lumber for small construction projects, and go mountain biking all the time. The Ridgeline was the smoothest truck I have ever driven, it had more space, more storage space, more features, wider bed, and it got a lot better gas mileage than the competition. I average 20 mpg in the city. (I also still have my little Tacoma for dirty jobs - like going to the dump or getting 12 ft 2x4s)

I've got a 2020 E level, one down from the Black edition. I tow a 7x14 enclosed trailer pulling heavy motorcycles, furniture, and construction stuff at times. It's done 600 miles one way pulling the trailer loaded cross country, no problem. The V6 does well overall and it is the best riding pickup ever owned. I've owned 1/2, 3/4 and now a 1 ton pickup, no comparison in ride and interior space. I have a neighbor with a 2020 Tacoma that I've been in multiple times and it feels dated and rides very harsh in comparison. I watched another youtuber who did an off-road comparison between the Ridgeline, the Tacoma and the Chev. It did everything the other two did except for a nasty rock crawl. Didn't want to risk it because it only has 9" of clearance. (who cares, how many people go rock climbing with these trucks) Deep snow, mud and hill climbs all done well. It even climbed one steep, rutted hill that stopped the Chev and Toyota! Honda went right up in it's standard all wheel drive configuration and stock tires. Amazing. This is my everday driver as well and it performs perfectly. It's a keeper for sure.

Watched every UTube video I could find for my model & realized I never had the timing belt replaced, valves adjusted, etc. & felt I was pretty lucky the dreaded SMOD hadn’t happened. So I had the radiator, alternator, water pump, PCV valve, steering rack, timing belt, Cracked hoses, connectors & all suspension components replaced, valves adjusted, & more and now I feel like it will outlast me. $7500 as opposed to $45,000 for a new Ridgeline & mine has a key instead of the push button start and none of the start/stop stuff.

Rather it be an R.V. , boat, trailer, etc. Everyone I know that has a truck hauls something with it. You don't buy a 1 ton to drive around in for sure or a 3/4 ton. A ridgeline for a uber job? Not the best choice for sure. A car like the accord or camry is great for uber trips because of the over 30 mpg on the high way.

It tows over 5,000 lbs. That's 1/2 ton. What more you need unless for major construction or a 5th wheel type rv or gargantuan boat.
Most truck owners don't need more hauling capacity. Most people with huge boats have a dock; most basic construction capabilities met - only major projects need more; and, unless rv living, majority of rv's (weekends, holidays) are 5,000 or less.

Got a 23 Ridgeline. We love it. The trunk is the best. We fit all our beach gear including 3 boogie boards in there. We also tow 2 jet skis to the lake no problem. At the boat ramp, other trucks slip and slide on the slippery surface trying to get out. The Ridgeline has never had a problem. Unfortunately, my wife liked it so much too, we are running up the mileage pretty fast. Knowing it's a Honda, at least it will last. I also am in the habit of turning off the start/stop as soon as i turn it on. Looking for a truck, definitely recommend.

The Ridgeline was light years better. People complained they didn’t like the looks. Lol. Wonder how many trucks they’ve had to buy since. I’ve put four road bikes in the bed and headed to the bike trail. This truck is awesome. I want a new one so bad, but can’t seem to let go of such a reliable Honda truck. I have the 2022 Sport model. It has an in bed cooler that also doubles as a trunk and a 12 speaker system in the walls of the bed for tailgates. The truck also functions as a generator. The all wheel drive is great for whatever you put it through. It is a lot of fun to drive. I get many compliments on it.

I love my 2020 Ridgeline. Don't qualify it as a "pickup," since it won't pickup much. It's more of a pup-truck. But still, I ran it from PA to Nashville and got nearly 32 mpg. Pulled a u-haul trailer to move my son to college and run 18 mph. And, like Scotty said, very comfortable and quiet ride.

Sure, the Ridgeline is good. I owned one for years. But, I'm not willing to pay $15K+ more for a similar level of equipment in my 23 Maverick. My 2.0 L AWD XLT cost me ~$36 K Canadian. A Ridgeline priced out at over $52 K. My Maverick drives very nicely, Ridgeline is nicer. Ford is good value for the money. If you keep them forever, Honda is probably a better buy. Newer Ridgelines are not as reliable, too many gadgets.

Picked the 2024 V-6 Honda Ridgeline RTL over the 2024 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I could not get what I want, so I choose the Ridgeline. Main reasons: Don't want that questionable turbo 4 cylinder which could be a problem around 100,000 miles and the Honda cab size is so much better. Have had it 10 days and so far so good.

With a Unibody pickup truck like Ridgeline. Honda would have to build a separate platform configuration for your needs.
This would be extreme cost for manufacturer. The 2nd Generation Ridgeline shares same platform with Passport, Odyssey and previous 3rd Gen Honda Pilot and Acura MDX Suvs. It's one piece unlike body on frame pickup truck they just slap a bed on back of configuration.

But the ZF is way more reliable and smoother than the six speed and the ten speed is new so we just dont know about it’s reliability. You can lock the ZF in 1st gear or what ever gear you want which is great for towing. I tow a 4,000 lb trailer and lock in 5th gear. Can’t do that with the ten speed.
