    I personally think this software is really cool, I think its great for beginners to use as it looks simple and straight forward while allowing for soo much potential in the outcomes you can create. i don't think comparing it to blender is fair as blender I find is daunting and not very beginner friendly while vectarys approach with more use of sliders etc is more inviting to someone like me who struggles with 3d design

    Maybe I am just too much of a novice, but I had lots of trouble with vectary. Will's example using a simple white object seemed simple enough, but I wanted to 3D model a 2D item that had multiple colours and COULD NOT get it to work, at all.

    Stupid question - what format did you use to import into Vectary? SVG doesn’t seem to work for me…

    • @willpatersondesign
      @willpatersondesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used SVG - Not sure why it's not working for yourself. I would try exporting the logo with only one artboard - with the logo on that artboard and see if you have any better luck :D

    i personally disagree with use of software like this, and i think not enough people do. i could make a fast criticism comparing it to blender, but i’ll go over this more methodically. before that i want to mention the fallacious selling point: blender’s eevee is a game engine too, and there are plenty of fast or real-time engines available for all sorts of 3d suites.
    ok; any tool has a learning curve, and if you focused on learning this tool’s capacities with alternative tools, it would not take much longer. the point in doing that is not to be stingy or closed off to new tools, but mostly that the tool you use embeds some kind of meaning into what you create. Sometimes those tools are relatively unbiased, like Adobe Illustrator, and they try to just give you the best toolset possible to do whatever. They do not have a clear visual bias - the bias comes only from the medium, or vectors. There is little discernible difference that could help you distinguish between stuff made with Illustrator, Affinity Designed, Inkscape, and Vectornator, unless it clearly uses Ai’s or Inkscape’s vector effects. This doesn’t work the same in 3d, though, the tool you demonstrated feels to me like the Canva of 3d. Essentially when you simplify a tool to a small selection of features and give it a visual bias, it stops being creative software and becomes production software, where there is one goal; in this case the dribbble ui mockup aesthetic. Because of that bias the work you produced today feels to me more like branding for the software than yourself, even though you used your own elements and ideas. Not to mention the 2 cool features are stuck behind a paywall, essentially making the program into the, at this point, very popular trope of reinventing the wheel, except making it worse and more linear, and then charging an indefinite amount of money for indefinite time thanks to the little ‘connects to interwebs!’ sticker slapped somewhere on the packaging. Of course, if you are going for a specific look that can be achieved by the software, that’s great. But i don’t think it’s worth the time to learn it because by dedicating slightly more time to other software you can get infinitely more stylistic control and another tool that can help build a creative process. After all you don’t need to always sketch your ideas on paper and vectorise them with Ai, perhaps you can run a fluid simulation on random shapes and see if it inspires you from any angle at any frame. I just can’t see the benefit of spending time learning this when it is probably not even faster than alternatives to use, post learning curve.

      Such a stupid gimmick. I think this will rapidly work against creativity. I'd rather use my time creating something substantial instead of wasting it on a counter productive so-called 3D mediocrity. I like Will but his words about if you don't present a graphic identity to the client using this or mock-ups is such bullshit, too. I understand that he has to make a living through sponsors and all that, but I think he's approaching the downfall of getting stuck in a "sponsored false content" what every educational TH-cam channel falls into at some point. There are exceptions, of course (like Kevin Powell for example. People like these are above and beyond. Honestly, not everyone can match their quality of content so I'm not expecting that)
      I hope Will realizes where his channel is going and does something about it. They have to find a balance between quality content and sponsored content and omit pushing nonsense through his platform.
      I personally don't need to watch these channels to learn new skills. But there are a lot of newcomers who do need quality content. And day by day a lot of channels starting to fall short delivering substantial content with the sponsor corruption. Such a shame really...

    The universe is fucking terrible.. Everything just goes around and around. 3d logos was cool in the early 2000th, please don't let this hideous path be the new standard.. Again.

    • @parasatc8183
      @parasatc8183 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The current trend for 3D graphic design looks notably different from early 2000s graphics. I like to think of it as having the fondness for the late 80s to early 90s gradients, the realistic lighting of 2000s graphics, and what I would consider to be the noticeably unique development of rounder bevels. If there would be anything negative to be seen, it would probably be the influence of the Globohomo art style on the trend.
