I believe the video was "borrow" from the original creator, as the "titles" of the Earl and his wife appear backward. I believe the "jumps" were created due to restrictions in place under the original creator's copywriter, as I have seen this before, presumably in it's original form, and it was far better!
I agree, it's hard to focus on the story when they constantly switch the perspective of the camera, or keep rotating frames. but nevertheless super interesting.
So nice and marvellous to have the privilege to set my eyes on Downton Abby once more....the history is just fabulous, wish I could visit in person 🇿🇦 thank you so much for taking us back to the castle...🥲💋
I totally enjoyed this documentary, despite the frustrating editing. When I figured out the mirror reversing of this, I just waited for the section, I could read. I’m a stickler for the lip syncing to match the words. When I realized this was not going to happen, I turned my attention to the beautiful visual imaging of the countryside, interior of the castle (which was magnificent)! When the history of the castle was shown, has ANYONE watched old newspaper articles, online of photos with people in them? Photos 100 years ago didn’t have the capacity to print AND reprint ANYTHING with shadows. Those photos of the staff (inside and outside) were flat! No one could really identify people. As technology progressed, the shadows, contrast and brightness; with copying for reprint improved, although slowly. Newspapers especially used the dot matrix technology to copy and print. Those of us who remember in the 60’s the ditto machines, for reproduction for any school project, or tests. I recall those papers with the purple print, and lousy quality. There was another antiquated copying method that was not cost effective. It ran on the technique of a Polaroid. Put the paper to be copied in the hopper, then run a timer on chemically treated paper to be sure the light was creating the proper exposure to be copied. When the timer stopped, we’d be able to remove the paper, and hopefully peel the two pages apart to hopefully get a great reproduction of what needed to be copied. I never could master the pealing as the black part of the one side would not peal, thus sticking to the good page needed. Bless the individual who created the Xerox machine! That was the best thing invented since sliced bread! We could reprint as many copies as needed, as long as the toner held. Once the cassette filled with the toner ran out, it was time to refill it. What I’m saying is back 100 years we didn’t have the ability to reproduce the clear photos we can now. So we can’t gripe about that. Concentrate on what we did see in this beautiful castle
The Carnarvons are to be admired in so many ways. Lady Fiona is a remarkable writer, and Lord Carnarvon is also such a fine steward of all that he’s inherited. I respect them tremendously. Apart from the woeful editing, this was brilliant.
So, basically, the story of Downton Abbey is the story of Highclere (and many other similar manors). Who's looking forward to the new Downton movie?!!! Woooo!!!!!
I have the complete 6 series and the epilogue movie. Also, forgot I had the 6th series and bought another. I watch them all the time..over and over. My friends are here at the click of the remote. Lol
The sitting room has more square footage than my whole house, I’d hate to be paying the heating bill..it’s architecture is absolutely mind blowingie beautiful though..
I've been watching this documentary on TV. Who ever edited this was ADHD. Flipping the same pictures from the left to right. Words are backwards and forward so you can't read the script and sometimes the audio is not synced with the spoken words. It was very frustrating.
It has great history and comments but needs to be completely edited. The mirroring flipping from side to side is horrible. Take it down and redo it. It reflects terribly on the fine history of the estate!

@@Pius-XI There is a significant difference between a Title and the family name. It does netter when the topic is part of a video which will become part of the permanent public record concerning the Highclere Estate.
They are officially the Carnarvons as the landed family owners of Highclere Castle but personally, they are the Herberts. Aristocratic families are more commonly known, as a family, by their title to differentiate themselves from other parts of the family who aren't the main line, if you get what I mean.

Then Downton Abbey came along and of course was COMPLETELY hooked on tge show, (because jtvwas an amazing show) pleasantly surprised to recognize my old friend Highclere.
The British view it as a title that noone wants. It’s a title that is a subsidiary title to most dukes anyway so most marquesses are dukes as well and there are very few that are a marquess only. In fact I read it was given to those who the Nobility didn’t wish to be given the title of Duke.
One of the crappiest videos I’ve actually enjoyed in some time. The original video was probably a joy to watch. The Tutankhamen connection was something I never heard about from Fellowes or any of the episodes of Downton. Another thing fascinating was that a ton of Highclere’s history can be seen in Julian Fellowes’ Downton’s storylines.
Beautiful. We had a huge house in Colorado in the mountains and we had a lot of weddings but you might think of having some tea dances. Her ladies or hats and they dress kind of old-fashioned. That would have been fun but I ran out of time. We also had barbecues and hayrides. Takes a lot of money to keep these things together.
I couldn’t get past the horrible editing to watch this video. I love Highclere Castle though, and so glad Downton Abbey helped them save it and reinvigorate it
If I remember correctly this was originally a BBC Documentary, I note that there is no link to the original nor any acknowledgement of that. Basically a 'rip off'.
It seems that Downtown Abbey was really inspired by this real Herbert family!!!!😮 Even the castle-turned-hospital, the problems on the roof… even the heir son is called George!!! very very similar story! I believe that the writer of Downtown Abbey, who is a family friend, came up with a story almost 100% inspired on this family to attract fame and money and so to save the property! Even in the Downtown Abbey film, the castle is also turned into a film location, to which the Crawleys agreed as to make money to repair the roof!!! Coincidence ?????😅

From what I've seen of these castles they all need pressure washing since they're covered with black mold making them abandoned and delapitated which they're not.
