  • In the ever-evolving realm of project management, Primavera P6 stands as a powerful tool for planning, scheduling, and tracking project progress. Among its many features, activity steps play a crucial role in breaking down complex tasks into manageable units, enhancing project control, and providing a granular view of project execution.
The Physical percent complete for the activity calculates each time you mark or clear a Completed checkbox, edit the Step % Complete, change the weight of a step, or add or remove steps from the activity. To calculate the percent complete, select Physical as the percent complete type.
As the title suggests, Primavera P6 allows the scheduler to model the complexity of activity tasks while maintaining the simplicity of the Gantt chart. This is done using Primavera P6’s steps function. Activity steps allow the scheduler to break down an activity into smaller units of work that will assist in making a status of the activity when the project starts.
Thus, instead of adding additional activities to the Gantt chart, which increases its intricacy, the activity is left the same on the Gantt chart, but given more definition with the steps function. As the function name implies, activities are broken down into several activity steps. The scheduler can assign a weight to each step to apportion its value compared to the other steps. Weights do not need to add up to any particular number either, they just need to represent the portion of the total effort each step will take. Primavera P6 will compute each steps weight percentage.
In this video tutorial, you will learn how to effectively utilize activity steps in Primavera P6, empowering you to break down complex activities into smaller, manageable units and gain greater control over your project schedules.

      Hello, welcome to #Planning_P6.
Dear, please create a recourse with the name of Concrete or whatever you want.
After creating the recourse assign this to the specific activities. The next step is you can extract the per day/week/monthly quantity from recourse assignment option or extract spread sheet, what ever you want. after this create curve / bar chart in excel.
Also you can show histogram in P6 for the specific resource, already described in one tutorial.
Hopefully above statement is enough to understand properly.......

      Primary Critical path:
The primary Critical path is those activities that are on the critical path right now or at this stage.
      Secondary Critical path:
The primary Critical path is those activities that are near to the critical path.

We cannot update the percent complete of the activity which the % types are units or duration automatically, the only one we can update is physical % , even though we assign resources to the activities with unit% type , this is my understanding, please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

The activity steps have been added only to the below three activity types:
      • Task Dependent
      • Resource Dependent
      • Level of Effort
Additionally, the calculation of progress only takes into account physical% complete; if a person wants to include other% complete types in the calculation, he may use Excel and add the final value in step% complete.
