  • Here is a quick video of how I built a headboard for my wife with 95% pallet wood. I think it came out great and really gives the room a nice rustic look... which my wife loves:)
    It is an easy project that any skill level can accomplish. Hopefully it'll give you an idea of what you might be able to build with some free pallet wood. As always, thanks for watching!

    Love the look and design. I was thinking along the same lines as this project. I also love the rough look but I finish my pallet projects with a matte finish. Some gloss but mostly matte. Again, awesome build.

    Looks good. Most pallet headboards I've seen look like, well... pallet headboards. I like how you finished the edges, I think that's the extra step that made it look like something you'd pay big money for at a furniture store. Might have to try making one myself one of these weekends.

    I really liked how you did the work and most of all the presentation, it was fast and to the point. The final project turned out well. I hope you make more such as this. I am making a headboard myself, not as fast ha ha but still think it will turn out well. I used fence material as its lighter and already is rough sawn and staining with a blue and gray stain. Its not as cheap as your to make but that wasn't my intention. Im also using 4x4 posts for each side and I'm going to attach it to the bed rails. Right now its solid boards across the whole width, I may cut it up a little as you did, I think that will look better.
    Thanks again.

    This looks AMAZING! I am planning on doing this project this weekend with my husband. I do however have a couple questions. What do you use to mount it on the wall? How did you come up with the measurements for each piece of wood?Thanks for sharing this step by step video.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Misty Rowe Thanks Misty! For the mounting, I used wood screws through the top (at a downward angle) into the wall and for the legs (since they aren't flush to the wall like the top) I used simple 'L' brackets. And for the wood slats I really didn't measure them, I just laid out the pieces and cut them to fit. As you see on the video I put the first in, then I cut the second and third pieces where they wouldn't have their edges line up with the row above or below.
      For the frame of the headboard I did use the width of the bed (queen, king, etc,.) to figure how wide I wanted it. And for the height I just eye-balled it to see what I thought looked good. I don't think you can go wrong with higher or lower though... just depends on what you like style-wise:)
      Anyways, I hope that helps and I hope you guys love the final result of your project. We sure do! Thanks for watching Misty:)

      homesteadonomics yeah I just took apart my pallet and hosed down the wood. how tall would you suggest to make it for a twin bed? It'll be 4ft wide but I don't know how tall it should be.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey CJ... mine is about 27" above the mattress and about 47.5" for the total height. Since your mattress is going to be narrower then I think you'll want to make it a bit lower in total height... maybe 36-40" or so. But I'd put some tape on the wall at a few different height levels and see what looks the best :)
      Hope that helps and I'm sure it's gonna turn out out great!

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Thanks Drew! The final dimensions were about 65"W by 46.5"H, with the pallet portion being about 32" of that height. As far as attaching.. you can attach to the bed frame or to the wall. I've attached mine to the wall but am planning to attach the frame to the headboard as well just so there's no wiggle/movement. Anyways, hope that helps if you decide to build one of these babies! Thanks for watching Drew!

  • @JamesWheeldon
    @JamesWheeldon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good project thanks for sharing...I have just started getting into the pallet wood building movement and I am noticing a lot of construction without the use of wood glue. Have you had any issues with the imperfect joints without glue applied to them?

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Wheeldon Hey James...Wood glue is almost always a good idea for wood projects... sometimes though with my pallet stuff I just get impatient and reinforce later with screws, etc,. But for joinery or something that might be a little more refined, I'd definitely say wood glue should be used. Anyways, I hope that answered your question and have fun on your next pallet project! I love seeing what I can get out an old pallet....thanks for watching:)
