    This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection th-cam.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

    Just bought the wood. $88.08 @ Home Depot. Would have been more, but I have screws.
    Nice project. Still can't buy an all wood headboard for under $100.
    UPDATE:
    I built it the headboard. Very good instructions.
    In the comments, there were some questions, as to how to mount it. I mounted mine to a steel bed frame. The frame measures 60 1/2" across. The headboard is 62". So I split the difference. I measured in 3/4" from the edge to mount the legs. This way it lines up to the mounting point on the frame. The length of the legs, should also be cut to the height of the mattress.
    Thanks for a great, simple project !

      On the vid you kinda miscounted the amount for the 1x4. There should be 4 1x4 right? Not 3 1x4

    • @squatchin7774
      @squatchin7774 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No its correct. you'd have 3 96" boards, when cut to length all 3 give you plenty left over to cut the 20-3/4 pieces.

      Why don't you update the price while you're at it? That way people won't be surprised by their bill when they go to Home Depot, seems kind of unfair to me.. I'm assuming it's because nobody wants to watch the $80 video?

      Hoping you'll see this reply since so much time has passed. I'm actually making this now in my basement but I feel I did something wrong or it could be the boards weren't completely flat as I had to add quite a few more nails. I just came up here to take a break & re-watch this vid. I'll go back & flip the board over & pray it doesn't come apart so I can get the legs on...uuuggghhh.

    Late to the game, but I made the queen size version with zero experience and no saw. Had the local lumber yard cut the pieces for me and tacked it together myself. It was more like $75, not $20, but either way, it came out awesome. Thanks!

    I just finished this headboard project yesterday! It came out fantastic! I'm 45 years old and I have not built anything with wood since wood shop in high school ! This tutorial was well put together and easy to follow. The only thing I added was 2 additional 20 3/4" 1x4 on the front! My brother who works in construction made that one suggestion. It really firmed up the entire piece and prevented bowing of center 1x10 boards. So instead of one giant recessed square I have 3 equal in size. It adds a really nice look! Anyways I really have to thank rehab life for this video ! It saved me lots of money and resulted in something that looks like I paid a lot for !

    I just signed a lease to a furnished apartment next to my university. The bed doesn't come with a headboard, so I definitely plan on making this here in a week or two! Headboards, like this one, retail upwards to several hundred dollars, so this saves so much money with a tight college budget!

As for people complaining about the $20 price tag, maybe check as to the date this was made. Lumber might have been cheaper. Or better yet go and buy yourself a new headboard for a few hundred. So many complainers. Please don't stop making videos.

    This was great! My dad and I built one today for my full size bed for my college apartment, (a little more expensive, bought our wood at Lowe's) and it took only about 2.5-3 hours to complete. Of course my dad is a handyman/wizard with wood so it was pretty quick and easy. Only thing I would recommend (as per request of my dad) is to add a really strong krazy glue to the wood along with nailing the boards together. It will last a lot longer that way! But amazing video, I love my new rustic headboard!

    i made this a few weeks ago for my spare bedroom and stained it an antique grey. It was my first time ever building anything and it turned out great. I used it for a full size bed and missed seeing the adjustments for different bed sizes. It fits just outside the frame so we just added some wood at the bottom to bolt it to.

  • @NickandSilkeCreate
    @NickandSilkeCreate 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Alright, let's get the money out of the way. I spent a total of $34.98 on materials. The stain, sandpaper I already had. The boards that were used to trim out the head board were found out behind a loading dock. The rest of the wood and the bolts to attach it to the frame were all that was needed.
    Now we can move on to the end result. Awesome! The only step I skipped was beating the boards with a pipe. The wood that I found was gouged enough the way it was. This was such a neat project and the video's step by step instructions were spot on for letting me put this together. If I could attach a picture I would. Kudos for helping me out on this one!

      Nick and Silke Jager did you attach to the bed and if so how?

    • @NickandSilkeCreate
      @NickandSilkeCreate 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Atlcst2 Good question! We set up the frame and then aligned the head board to gauge where to drill the holes. Our first set of bolts and washers that we used were way too small and it didn't take long for the headboard to become lose. We maxed out the bolt size by using the biggest ones that would work with the holes in the frame and we haven't had any problems since. BTW - The head board still looks great and we get compliments on it all the time!

    I found a really quick and easy way to distress boards like these, and you won't end up with what looks like a bunch of intentional marks all over the board, which is what we're all trying to avoid when distressing wood. Lay your boards in your driveway, dump a few handfuls of gravel over them (the more distressed you desire, the more gravel you can use) then just drive your car back and forth over top of the board(s). The gravel will make multiple small to tiny irregular marks and gouges wherever the gravel is laying on the board. You can do a few passes, move the gravel around, and do more passes until you get the amount of distressing you desire. It literally takes a coupe of minutes to get a very distressed look. Now obviously you're probably going to only want to use this with flatter boards, probably nothing thicker than 2 inches, unless of course you own a truck. But keep in mind, if you go much thicker than two inches, you risk the board kicking up and hitting your car as you roll onto or off the edge of the boards. I would love to see some things other people make using this technique. Now where I live here in Arizona, we always have an abundance of gravel since most of us have gravel instead of grass in our yards. Enjoy!

    What’s nice about this tutorial is that you show people the you can make one without any fancy tools. Thank you. The only one suggestion I would do is to use wood glue when attaching the 1x4 around the edge and the top shelf as well. It would just help it to stay together better. Also, a warning to newbies....take care when nailing that the nails don’t go through and you nail it to your floor! Oops!

It looks amazing. The HD near me didn't have 1" x 10" so I used 5-1" x 6" and it did great. Total cost was $76, including paint. HD didn't charge for any of the cuts! Great info.

    Yea so it’s not $20 but the results were awesome and thanks for including additional dimensions. I️ was able to build this start to finish in under two hours. This does not take special tools so anybody can make it! Thank you!

    I followed your instructions, and it came out
    Beautiful. I was amazed, that it was so simple. Kinda heavy, and I’m not sure how to hook it on the wall.

    I just looked up the lumber prices at my local Menards store and it is 23.42 + tax. That is using standard 1x boards not select or premium but premium 2x4's. I already have the rest of the stuff but it would only be about 10 bucks more if I didn't. You could greatly increase the lumber cost by using select or premium 1x's but whats the point when you want a rustic end result, I think the video is excellent, thank you!!

    Some have commented its more than $20 and that was true for me, but it depends how much diy stuff you do. The wood and 1 pint of stain I bought to make a king size version of this was only $46 at Menards. So not bad. However, i have misc screws, nails, tools, etc... already. It was pretty simple and looks decent. I'm interested in making the rustic side tables to go with it. So I will get more use out of the stain.

    I am by far NOT a professional carpenter but am learning to make useful things. Your channel is a big help. The projects both of you build are GREAT, including the dog. Could you build the complete bed showing the rails and everything needed in the near future? Dressers and a simple armoire would be fantastic, too. Thank you.
