I have left a dwarf behind. As we all pilled into the pod, the dwarf who had arrived first covered our retreat only to be downed after everyone else was inside. Watching the door close on him as he fell was the most heart wrenching moment I've experienced in a game, and the shame of having left someone behind, even unintentionally, will never leave me.
I have been last in the pod every time since. If a dwarf is getting left behind on my mission, it's going to be me, paying forward the gift I was granted.

In one of Phantom's videos I didn't know you could go in the pod and it would've grabbed the materials you had on you, so I dumped them. But before it was an epic action scene seconds before the pod left... And I dumped the resources and was at the door as it was closing...

One time the engineer that had carried the mission was downed almost a hundred meters away. I was already at the drop pod as Scout, but when I saw the others ditch him, that would not stand.
A driller main at heart, I dug a tunnel all the way to him with just the pickaxe (it was sandblasted corridors)
The ride home was worth it, if not awkward for the leaf lovers of the team who were all too willing to *leave a dwarf behind*

It's not about the bonus rewards for everyone coming back. It's about the fact that someone else who you may very well never meet again, in that moment, is grateful to you. It may be a game, and it may not matter that much overall, but when you're the one that's down, it FEELS like it matters. I was once that Greenbeard as well, now over 800 hours in I'm paying back all my built up favors from those who came before me. Pass it along, Rock and Stone.

i remember saving this greenbeard once. He got trapped back in the cavern and couldn't find his way out. Everyone else already sat in the pod waiting, watching his health slowly trickle away. I couldn't just stand by and watch a friend die... With only a minute left by the time i got near em, I resorted to carving my way towards him. near death, in a dark cave surrounded by spiders, he saw my angry little head pop out from the floor with a shield generator and a revved minigun.
    We both made it back.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like due to our culture and how we’re raised, these player traits are rarer as an Asian.
Not saying it’s a zero percent, but take Insurgency and Hell Let Loose as a case, English speaking players in those games who have their mic on tends to be very calm, supportive and helpful, makes you feel like there’s no stupid questions, they tell you so much more stuff what should’ve been in a tutorial, and when you lose you don’t see complaints or insults in the chat, all you see is people cracking jokes, role-playing as a soldier in the war or just a simple GG.
Now obviously the playerbase and genre are very different, but I’m just fed up with competitive games, the games are extremely fun to play, but the players are not fun to play with or play against, I love games where people can goof around and help each other just for the sake or it, maybe I’m just old, but you can’t blame me for wanting a bit of happiness when I’m escaping from life.

Seeing everyone share their story of bravery and kinship, I’d like to share mine. I tried this game a while ago. Didn’t click. Fast forward about a year and a friend reintroduces it to me. They help with the ropes, the mechanics, the works. Fast forward about a month, I’m playing on my own with randoms and I notice it becomes a collective effort, a downright vengeance to pick up the downed dwarf no matter the bug, the distance, or the terrain. The determination to make sure everyone gets back to drink till unconscious. A little more time passes and we’re in the hollow bough, a solid morkite mission with some nasty generation too. We get the mission done and call the pod. It’s a straight shot back once out of the second to last cavern. We start racing Molly back and an engineer goes down. I’m leading the race and I think nothing much as I trusted my colleagues he would be picked up. A minute since the timer starts, and 40ish seconds since he went down so not much ground was covered since he got incapacitated. I turn and see both of the ones behind me kissing my heels, Molly behind them. A wave of “OH SHIT!!” hits me as I boost past them to go pick up the engineer. The position of the cavern was so bad that platforms would’ve taken forever so there was a zip line from before when doing the mission. 2 trijaws, an oppressor, a praetorian, and two slashers. Terrible combo especially on the zip line. Cluster grenade kills all but the trijaws and oppressor which I gun down. I grab the engi and get on the zip line. More bugs spawn in and more macteras. He gets shot off and downed again. I curse the bugs and myself and lick him up again. The process happens a couple more times all the while the clock is ticking. I get knocked down the second to last time and have to iron will. I manage to snag a vampire kill and keep myself alive. After that instance, we finally get a micro wave that doesn’t have a mactera and engi finally gets to the ledge and can run. He puts a turret down to try and help but the clock is ticking. I’m not letting that dwarf leave my screen so I help build the turret and boost past him, making sure to turn and shoot the bugs behind him. 30 seconds and the pod is in sight but the terrain isn’t good. The other engi and scout made it and there’s some platforms up there along with two turrets. The climbing mechanic is janky sometimes and it wasn’t favorable here. The 1st engi makes it into the pod before me, 15 seconds, and being the greedy dwarf I am, I go to deposit some minerals. 10 seconds as I’m depositing. 9… 8… 7… I finish emptying and work to the pod door. A praetorian is in the way that’s half dead. 6… 5… 4… 3… the bug dies and I boost into the pod to see all three of them in it. 2 seconds left before that pod would’ve closed. But I did it. I brought that engi home. No other game on the market would’ve made me so hellbent on being a medic, not even the battlefield franchise. I’m glad I reintroduced to DRG. Rock and Stone, brother

One of my first games of deeprock multiplayer was as an engineer with 4 friends. By the end of the mission, we were being swarmed and on basically no ammo, with half the team downed and stuck in slime. I was throwing turrets and bombs down to protect them, but eventually I was the last man standing. I didn't think anyone had enough ammo or health to help me get out, but I revived the one friend I could reach; the gunner.
He just got up, fired a zip after molly, and told me to get my ass on the drop pod because he wasn't losing the mission bonus today. He promptly disappeared back down the tunnel, lighting it up with gunfire. Because of that, I was able to make it to the pod with exactly 4 seconds to spare.
It was quite possibly the most heroic thing I had witnessed in a video game. Rock and stone to the bone.

I remember one time, in a haz 4 mission, the drop pod came down in a weird spot that had us run into the wrong tunnel before we checked the map to see where it was. We didn't have a driller so we had to run back, and while 3 of us got to the pod, one of our scouts got downed far behind. We had already lost a lot of time getting to the pod, but me and the other scout went to get him. After we picked him up, the two scouts grappled away and I had to just leg it. I got stuck trying to parkour to a ledge that was just a bit too tall for me that they just grappled over, before I remembered I had the platform gun. I made it to the drop pod at the very last second, pretty sure the retracting steps dragged me in for the last bit. But we all made it. No dwarf left behind.

Me and my buddy are Greenbeards, but I’ll never forget my first run with Gunner. He played Scout, because he likes to max a character before he moves on- conversely, I’m down to play whatever character is needed, regardless of if I have them maxed.
It was an elimination mission, and I had thought of riding my zip line to stay out of the line of fire. We had gone back and forth before the mission on what perks to bring- he brought dash as his active, and I was using Iron Will, though he disapproved.
The Dreadnought had us dead to rights. My friend went down first, so I prepared to go get him by jumping from my zip line. I was getting ready to move out when a mactera shot me down from my zip line. We sat there in collective shock for a moment as I went down, already accepting the mission as a loss. And then I noticed ‘Activate Iron Will!’ And the sheer adrenaline and joy I felt was near indescribable. I revived him just quick enough to get him before I went down again, screaming all the while.
We completed the mission, all because of a perk and a dream. Rock and Stone, Miners! Rock and Stone.

Once I had a really touch-and-go escape on Point Extraction. The drop pod was like 50 meters up from the minehead, up a long slope along the wall and then around a corner. Gunner had a zipline heading that way already, so it seemed an easy out... until our Driller got downed on the minehead, swarming with bugs.
I didn't hesitate for a second. Leapt off the cliff, fired a platform at my feet to cushion my fall, Field Medic Revived the driller, and covered his escape with a barrage of Stubby fire and Breach Cutter lasers as he got on the zip. Followed him up once all the ranged bugs were dead, and everyone made it out.
    Leave No Dwarf Behind.

when i started playing DRG. boy was i a greenbeard. dying on hazard 2 and having difficulties traversing the map. i didn't had much friends to play with, so i kinda left drg for like months. but when i came back to give it a try again, this time i went online and see if people were willing to help me out. and boy were they many. sure i guess they're doing it for xp or materials or whatnot, but while in game? they were teaching me what to do, telling me the dos and donts. they even taught me the RICHtual. i now main scout and gunner thanks to them, scout because i wanted my team to have enough nitra to survive waves after waves of glyphids. and gunner because i want to be the last man to get in the drop pod, making sure everyone is inside. i still do a sloppy job... but i am doing my best, and soon i can be someone everyone can rely on when it comes to support. To the other greenbeards out there who are struggling, don't worry, every good miners out there started as a greenbeard. rock and stone my brothers in arms and pickaxes. rock and stone.

Normally I only play with my friends and with "friend only" option. Once however - I don't know how, maybe by mistake - we went with public game and team of three so we were joined by some rando. Mission went smoothly but during extraction the guy got lost and died. He even typed to leave him behind. But even when we were not used to playing with strangers there was instantly agreement - we are NOT leaving this guy behind. We turned back and brought him home. He was even a bit surprised why we came back. The answer was simple and the only one possible - no dwarf left behind! Rock and stone, brothers!

"Look around you. In the company, we got a Scout from Hell. An engineer from the depths of LFG. We've got Greenbeards, Greybeards, casuals, trolls, memers, Drillers and Gunners -- all Dwarves. Now here on Hoxxes, some dwarves in this team may experience indiscriminate chaos because of class or surprise driller C4's. But for you and me now, all that is gone. We're moving into the 'valley of the shadow of death' -- where you will watch the back of the dwarf next to you, as he will watch yours. And you won't care what color he is or by what name he calls Karl.

They say we're leavin' home. We're goin' to what home was always supposed to be. So let us understand the situation. We are goin' into battle against a tough and determined enemy. I can't promise you that I will bring you all back to the spacerig alive. But this, I swear before you and before Almighty Karl: That when we go into battle, I will be the first to step out the pod onto the field, and I will be the last to leave. And I will leave no Dwarf behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together.
    So help me Karl."
