  • How many American classics have you seen "ruined" with a slushymatic gearbox? Not this one! 427 cubic inches of freedom, running through a "four on the floor" transmission.

    If the car were mine it would get a modern steering rack and Bilsteins, Wilwood or Brembo brakes and a modern aftermarket fuel injection system for vastly improved fuel consumption. Those cars also were notorious flexy fliers. Some judicious body reinforcement and you would have a really fun car.

    • @gamwpanagia
      @gamwpanagia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's criminal to fuel inject this car...

    • @theeoddments960
      @theeoddments960 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      “Vastly improved fuel consumption” is very optimistic. A carburetor is a static instrument that is made to fit the fuel demand and only gives the engine as much as it needs. Fuel injection is a dynamic instrument that can change the way it controls itself in the cold, high altitude, etc. THATS IT. It’s not some magic 20+ mpg thing a carburetor is fine as long as it’s tuned for the right weather altitude and fuel demand. Only real advantages are you don’t have to tune and startups are easier. I’ve come across so many people that have put a fitech fuel injection system on their v8s and are completely disappointed that their 12mpg car only does 14mpg after dropping a grand on fuel injection. Do not waste your time on thinking it’s some black magic.

    JayEmm, you're getting much closer to understand the American muscle car culture. A tip for you...when you do reviews of these classics go the full Monty and read up about the history and the legend of each of the cars you review so your followers get a sense of being there. I mentioned a few like the 427 COPO Camaro from GM, the Shelby Mustangs, the performance dealers like Baldwin/Motion, Nickey Chevrolet and Yenko Chevrolet and Grand/Spaulding Dodge. I am sure your followers would appreciate the history and you'd put them all back in the day. Make the effirt for even more exciting reviews.

    Your reviews of american cars is great. You're very open minded and honest and see them for what they are. A lot of people seem to compare them to european cars, but they were made for a totally different market, road type.. A lot of people don't like them simply because they're american , and have anti american sentiment.
    I love them. They're not perfect, but I don't want a perfect car. They have drama, character and an amazing sound and road presence. Cheaper than you think to run, easy to fix as well.

BTW, I have an original 67 RS/SS 396 with a 4 speed (very similar, but mine is a convertible). easy to stall? try backing up a slight incline in an aston martin vantage v8 with the radio playing at a volume such that it makes it difficult to hear the engine revving. if you aren't stopped by a stall you can wait for the burning clutch smell to let you know it's time to start over.
    and BTW, even if some good samaritan GAVE my father $50,000,000.00 he would have NEVER, EVER, even CONSIDERED buying me a car like that when i was in high school (or ANY car for that matter), although there were kids that had them and that drove them to school everyday in the '60's. even though i'm a sports car kind of guy, i still like those old camaros.

    hmmm...wondering about the mechanical condition of that car...an L72 427 (assuming that's what it is, based on the reported 425hp) should be a neck snapper in a lil ol Camaro...that one seems awfully leisurely in revving...redline about 6000, or higher in a well built one. Also, yea the stock steering gear is not the most responsive...designed for comfort and not with the kickback of a rack and pinion, but shouldn't be too bad...this gen Camaro won the SCCA TransAm series in '68 and '69, not a whole lot different from stock other than tires, so wondering if this vid car needs its suspension and steering checked. Often the money is spent on the bling, and this one has it in spades, and not so much underneath
