I live maybe 30 minutes away from Tacoma. Watching this alone in my room, Friday night, 28 years old. All I can think is how cool it would be to have friends and confidence in yourself to do this. Especially when you guys are back at the house for the intermission. How fun it would be to have friends smh.
I know it's uncomfortable but just get out there. Go solo and have a drink or five and you're almost guaranteed to meet someone that's fun. I promise you you are not as awkward or shy as you think you are.
Nicely done. I live right in the heart of all of these. Really cool to see how you put this together. Would love a part 2 and also a grub video too. Thanks man. 👍
Spent my 21st at Hanks back when it was a dive tavern back in 1978. Been to the Parkway a few times as well. Those days are long gone for this old man.
Just a video with dope vibes, awesome photography, & a great group of people! Loved this video from the first second to the very end! Keep killing it, Brae! 🤙🏻
This video ESPECIALLY the last 2 mins of this reminded me of Christmas 2021. It’s been about 7 years since I have been Home for a Christmas. My best friends and I had an early disc golf round(8am) followed by a stop at our local go to bar. We decided to have ONE drink(😂) I ended up coming home completely smashed at 5pm and passed out. Totally forgot that I had to be at my GF’s parents house for Christmas dinner at 8pm. I woke up showered and saved Christmas! Till this day my mom&gf are in complete disbelief how I manage to wake up, shower and look presentable to this Christmas dinner completely fine💚 Thanks for taking me back!
Part 2 is a must! Thoroughly loved watching this from down in Australia. Classic watering holes like these are few and far between down here. Big FOMO haha.
Part 2 would be awesome, I know all of the places you visited very well, all are awesome places and there are so many more, E9, DOA, Top of Tacoma, Unicorn. So many good ones.
There's gotta be a part two! You missed out on live music bars like The Valley, Airport Tavern, and what used to be Plaid Pig but is currently under new ownership and rebuilding as Overkill Lounge. Plus you got some great pinball barcades, Triple Knock, and (again) Airport Tavern. I would be committing a cardinal sin if I didn't mention The Church Cantina. It's the spookiest bar with the best food, and drinks on S Tacoma Way. Plus they got two SKI-BALL machines?? Let's see that part 2, bud! Other places worth mentioning: Eleven Eleven (11's, 1111, or some other variations), and The Top of Tacoma. Also, get out to The Homestead for that dense, greasy, hangover cure that you'll need the next day.
Yes sir!! Filming part two in a couple of weeks! Top of Tacoma, 1111, The Church, Berliner were all on my list. I'll add these other ones too and try to make it to all of them! Thanks for the suggestions. Cheers!
Looks like i have to find a few of these locations. Some i have driven past for years and never stopped in. Thanks for tour of this city i lived near most of my life.
You're doing Tacoma a huge service. I grew up in Seattle and Tacoma is often more or less referred to as the asshole of western Washington. Never really imagined myself having fun there until I saw this, but now I think might go spend the day down there soon and check it out. Thanks for helping me appreciate my home state.
A great list of spots that will provide some comfort on a typically grey day in a town that deserves its reputation. Tacoma is a dump, but it's a lovable dump. If all these cozy bars weren't around (let's not forget that there's a real need to drink to blot out reality here), it would be less than tolerable. Maybe that's why these bars feel like safe havens. I'd add O'Malley's, The Unicorn, and Engine House 9. Good (maybe a little melancholic) times to be had there.
I feel wasted by proxy! Hell yeah, that was a great video for the eyes and ears. Good call on the x100. Not sure you’d be able to load film by the end haha.
Man you made me miss my hometown, I’m here stationed in Colorado Springs for the Air Force. But man you can’t beat Tacoma bars in my opinion. Great video👍🏾
There's a pub in my area, The Black Stuff, that used to do the 100 Guinness club plaque as well. 500 and 1000, tho, that's true commitment! Also, the Fuji X100 is a lovely camera, but when I had the chance to try it in Japan I was surprised by how big it is and that kinda made me change my mind about getting one.
@@BraeHunziker Right, must feel tiny to you! Eventually I'd like to try medium format film and when I was in Seoul I almost bought a Zenza Bronica, but around here it's already complicated to get regular 35mm developed... By the way, did you have a chance to try the Fuji GFX cameras? It would be interesting to hear your point of view on them.
Not gonna lie brotha, that’s one hell of a day, how many beers you think you polished off in total. Looks like you had a blast, I definitely miss the pnw bar scene.
Bro…I am stopping this video at 15:39, sitting in an airport lounge smashing vodka sodas and laughing my ass of at this video. Well done sir - please make more like this.
Flash back to the 70s. Taverns only had beer and wine. It took a dark bar pickle juice we wore our sunglasses. Always asked why by the 6am drinkers.we are on vacation. Must wear your shades. We are new here any cool places to go? Day drinking 2. Happy Java Jive is back. They had a monkey named soupy. Tell yah sometime. Magoo Awesome
@@BraeHunziker Been there done that which is why I wouldn’t have lasted😂 You do great stuff, keep it coming. I like, for lack of a better term, the ‘Americana’ view of your photos. A lot of them are things people pass by every day but never really ‘see’. The photos give you that time to really look at what is around you.
Magoo's is cool and all but the pool table is right there when you walk in. Like every time you walk in you're ruining someone's shot and they all look at you like you're an asshole for walking into the bar. The staff is very nice though.
Grew up in Tacoma Gramma used to say don't go by them train tracks when I was a kid and would yell them bums will eat ya!as a kid never understood but definitely avoided them train tracks like Gramma says😂

I have to disagree, Bremerton is the true stink hole💩. Cities worse than Tacoma: Everett, Olympia, Burien….
I had to watch this again since you haven’t posted a new one in a minute, and this is so classic! ✌️
Got a new one coming on Saturday!
Whoa, over the top, Brea! I've gotta come see this town sometime soon. Cheers! 🍻

I love that you started at Doyle's. They've been there for me on some lonely Christmases they are the BEST.
Absolutely love that place. Best staff too
I love all of your videos man, but I gotta say, I'm sorta feeling these bar crawl ones the most 🤣
Haha I have a blast making them. Thanks for watching!
Big Fan of your work and videos Brae but this, this one felt really amazing, i had an ear to ear grin throughout the entire video.

I used to LOVE Hanks when I lived in Tacoma! You should've went to Latitude 84 on 84th and Hosmer.😂😂😂
