Hi girls. Thank you for advice. I am an American living in Poland going to Ukreine for 6 weeks to a language camp as an istructor and your advices are so reasonable but also new to me. Thank you so much, Your movie was a massive eye opener. I wish you all the best and I will take your all advices as a guardian angiel talk. :-)
great video. as a veteran for DECADES of world travel and one who bought a home abroad - so much do i love travel - this is good information. disregard most of the negative comments or naysayers - most of whom have never been out of their country.
Most important advice when travelling in Ukraine : (1) Don't get drunk alone in public places. This is the number 1 way to get into trouble. (2) If you don't speak Ukrainian (or Russian) : Don't go anywhere without someone who does. Situations can arise, and noone can help you. Most people can't speak English. (3) Behave like you would behave in your own country (or even better). You are a guest. Behave yourself. (4) Don't drive a car by yourself. Leave that to someone who knows. Taxi cost almost nothing, and bus and tramway even less. (5) Use credit card to withdraw small amounts of cash everyday. Don't pay with credit card in restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and don't carry large amounts of cash. (6) Try to avoid discussions with locals about Ukrainian politics and the situation in Donbas. Listen, nod your head, say "umm" and let them do the talking. Enjoy your trip.
Omg how to overstate!!! Ive been twice in ukraine, different citys and areas, had no problem at all if you just think a little bit and always behave! About driving a car might be true, not recommended. But not go alone? Dont be drunk? Haha seriously? 😂
The only valid tip is to behave. I've been to Ukraine with my wife and we had a good time and no trouble. Knowing the language is definitely important though.
The only time I got scammed in Ukraine was on my first day there. Somebody (pretending to be an animal rights activist) asked to take my photography with some birds (Using my own phone). I agreed and afterwards she wanted 600 hryvnia (About £18 at the time or $22). When i refused she made a scene and threatened to inform the police, knowing I was a tourist and struggled to speak the language. I gave her the money because I didn't want to get arrested on my first day there, but it turns out the police don't care. Two guys tried it the next day and I told them to fuck off, once you adjust to the country it's actually a very pleasant place in my opinion.
Oh wow! Thank you, ladies, for the tips. My goodness, I didn't know there would be scammers on the streets of Ukraine. I would like to visit Kiev one day! My sisters-in-law are from Kiev!!
Thank you so much for this valuable information, when I was there in September of 2017 I must admit this scamming rubbish almost happened to me but I was aware of what was happening. Unfortunately it does occur but this is a worldwide thing and it can ruin holidays my advice be very conscious of yourself and your surroundings. The advice given in this video is absolutely perfect. I did not even carry money on me I paid for everything with my card and scammers really hate this when you dont even have money on you. Ha ha for me it was funny to see the scammers reaction when I showed I had no money on me I simply laughed at them and walked on my way to enjoy the rest of my holidays.
While I really don't recommend antagonizing scammers/petty criminals, you're 100% correct that you should be aware of your surroundings. People who appear alert don't get victimized. Statistics overwhelmingly back this up. This is basic evolution. You don't see the most alert zebras getting taken down by lions...it's usually always the one that zigs when the others zag.
I have driven in Ukraine a few times and once I was driving through a village when there was a barrier in the road. The same type of barrier to stop people going onto the road at marches etc. The barrier was set at 90 degrees to the path with a traffic light at the end in the middle of the road. There were no road works or any other reason for the lights to be there. I stopped at the lights as they were on red and waited, as I suspected it was a trap. The lights were on red for a long time but I still sat there in my car waiting. Eventually the lights turned green and I drove past and it was then that I saw the police car hiding behind a bush set back a little from the road. I think they must have been disappointed that I never went through on red as I was diving in a Polish registered car and so they were expecting a little 'bonus' that day. This was before the change of leadership in Ukraine.
Natalie is fab! She's right about NYC....NORTH LONDON is the same now! She reminds of ladies I met when I lived in Bochegovka. Contrary to advice I went there. Lived in the Saturn Hotel. They looked after me. They didn't scam me. In fact warned me about the people you are talking about here! They were REAL people. Were humorous. I loved the market there. One lady got to know me and called me James Bond because of my English accent.hehe:) When I moved to Odessa the people were very happy and nicer generally in the GOLDEN BEACH area FONTAN. But I never forgot my friends in Bochegovka. Went back about twice to see my USA and Canada friends in the city and always visited Bochegovka. It was fabulous!
something like this happened to me in Kyiv last year. luckily for me, the scammers did it just a few steps from my rental car. they had no idea it was my car so I just got in and locked the doors and left them screaming in the sidewalk. I still wonder what would had happened if it has happened somewhere else
I never carried a wallet in Kyiv, Odessa, Vinnitsya, Mykolaiv, or Kherson. I carried a money belt, and would only convert traveler's checks as I needed hryvnia. I love Ukraine and as an American I found it very safe. My biggest recommendation is to rent a flat rather than a hotel. I rented flats in 5 cities. You save a bundle, and have those funds to use on restaurants. If you eat out twice a day it gets expensive, especially if you're staying in Ukraine for months as I did.
...I was in Kyiv city of 3 or 4 million...unfortunately I dropped my wallet in public on Kreshatik street...I was in panic...a nice young man called me and told me I have your wallet (my phone number was in wallet)...we met and I got wallet with all contents...one year later on another trip to Kyiv I brought this man a nice gift from the US...wonderful, true story...
Olga if I come to Kiev can we do a sit down video like this together? I've never even considered coming to Ukraine, until I started watching your videos. Thank you for showing the beauty of your country with us.
I believe Kiev and overall Ukraine is generally very safe. Bad guys are there in every parts of world. I loved Ukraine when i visited back in 2005. Wonderful country, lovingly people.
Totally agree! About the topics about other western E U Countries, let me tell you that 90% of the robberies or more are done by eastern europenas and Latin americans, believe me, and at the same time those cautions are applicable in any big city on Earth and where i live, sometimes i forget to chut my car doors and normally nothing happens! Ukrainians are among the best in eastern Europe at least having in account what people think in my own birth-land where we have plenty of them without any problem. However having plenty of problems with those Gypsies from countries at the south of your´s. Cheers.
I crossed by accident into the Gypsy district in Prague, nobody cared but they looked confused! Just a lot of nice families with brown skin and an unusual mixed Asian look. Not all Roma are criminals or scammers.
Hi , Hello :) i am from Greece :) . I want to visit Ukraine a lot . Because it's a beautiful country for me and well because i love travelling . But after watching this video i got a bit anxious haha . So if i take my phone out to take pictures of the city or something i risk being robbed ?? :( . However i am happy to hear that Ukrainians are happy to help :D . I personally always smile :)
Hi I have lived in Athens It is same things. If you already live there for some time it is less risky since you know when and where you can do something. But if you are there for the first time, you should avoid some situations
Thank you ladies! Nice of you to share. Do you ladies offer your interpreting service in Kiev? Olya, by the way, I am sad your sweatshirt does not include Crimea. Very sad...
I was in Kyiv last week. Safety advice: Put some money in your pocket for the common payments and the rest in your Portemonnaie in your bag, where nobody could see it. In Kyiv i feelt myself much more safer than in Germany. Not even a bad look from anybody to me. In opposite to my hometown, where it is dangerous to go out at evening. And: Ukraine is so unbelievable cheap. It had changed 100 € at my 1st day and stayed four. I could not expend it in the time, because normal things are so cheap. Metro (0,2€), food (1-2 €), Cigaretes (1 €), Museums (0,2 €) etc.
Gee Olga N Ur host I thank U so much indeed 4 head up about be aware of travel safety in Ukraine. Being careful applies 2 ANY country ANYONE visit, it can happen in USA, UK, Germany, n it might be tiny bit more scam than poorer countries in general as US dollar, British pound, n Euro as these currencies are more powerful. Lots of people are NOT prepares in travel aspects before travel. There are the MOST wallet thieves in Italy, which is FAR more well off than Ukraine. So put that, traveling safety precaution, in perspective.
Oh my goodness! What actually do you mean by robbed? Did they charge you more money? Did they grab your money out of your hand? What happened in the hospital case? Sorry for my asking, but I'm curious to know as I was thinking to go to Kiev.
спасибо ольга, I watched this before I went to Kyiv last time to see 'the other side' of the town instead of the tourist stuff. I really thought that the money scam would be hear say, no-one would be stupid enough right?....... Wrong :p They tried it on me, but a little bit different setup: An accomplice walking a little bit behind me to the side made a move to the ground, picking up money (which wasn't there before he bent down) and asked me if it was mine. I instantly replied no, and at the same time thought by myself "I've seen this somewhere". He told me he'd do 50/50 with me, and asked me to come with him (I wanted to see where this was going). The moment we were in a side ally (still no more than 150m from Independence Square), the 'owner' came into the same ally. Suffice to say I left there with all my money back in my wallet again, and the guy will have a hard time with his slide of hand trick after that dislocated knuckle. But still I agree, Kyiv is still very safe, safer than most big cities in my own country...
Thank you so much for these helpful tips. Both ladies are smart and really beautiful. I actually love Ukrainian women. They're smart, kind, pretty and lovely. Hopefully one day in future i can go there. But now the war is happening. Hope the war ends as soon as possible. Omg, God bless Ukraine. Love from Vietnam 🇻🇳
Yes, correct about New York city, a little. I have question about why you both said smiles are having strange meaning?? What if person is just happy? Thank You for video very good. I look forward to your response. Dyakuyu za rozmovu
I trust my life to statistics and basic psychology and evolution. I am aware of my surroundings at all times. As such, I don't get targeted for crime. I was mugged in Romania once, and it was 100% my fault. I wasn't paying attention and ended up in a poorly lit, empty street at night. I got picked off as I was trying to get back to where the crowds were. In nature, the animals that blend in with the herd don't die..the ones that stand out become dinner. Don't be dinner. To defeat the wallet scam, don't look at the ground. Simple. Look up...look around. If you aren't looking at the ground, you'll walk right on past that wallet.
In Malaysia, the robber will hit you in the back of the head. and take your stuff when you are unconsious.b you will wake up in the hospital a few days later not knowing what happen.
Almost forgot I got that girl "hello" stuff in kreschatick restaurant. I think it's a cider bar now! Guy looked over gave a sign to say NO! She was a gypsy scammer!
Mon petite Frances ! I have been to France many times! last time was last year to París Disneyland and so on, never with any problem! Even when some areas of the city look more like Africa, and you know what i mean!!!
What's with the Gypsee stuff? I've never seen one before anywhere and don't know what to expect with them. They are pretty much non existent in the US.
Honestly I live in Australia and I've like never ever been robbed, seen a robbery or heard of one. Obviously there are home robberies in doge area's but never one the streets
This "film flam man" scam happened to me in my last day in Odessa I was going home to prepare myself since it was my last day as I was walking home someone dropped a bunch of money in a plastic bag and the second it feel down another guy picked it up and put it in his pocket and started to walk next to me and to talk friendly funny enough he followed me around anywhere I go .. 3 minutes have gone the person that dropped the money was running exactly after us and started to ask us about his money you know the money that he accidently droped 3 minutes ago but his detective skills lead him to us(me and the thief) the moment he stopped us he asked us about his money and wanted us to show him our wallets ;) ofcouse I didn't but now that I think about with such detective skills he would have found them by using so little to non effort I am sure he was going to use his tasting sence or his smelling sence or even his great memory and remember the exact digits the each bill of his had, but the story didn't end here oh no they had to make it more realistic and what is the best thing to do in this situation just put another guy on the act that shows out of nowhere and start to take side with the "victim" and tells me in English "show him money" that was the moment where I knew that these guys are a Hollywood stars so I told them "there is two possibilities to what is going on 1: you are with a tv show 2: you are trying to scam me" then I walked away and since no one showed himself and started to tell me that this was a social experiment I knew for sure that it was a scam. a word of advise is don't walk alone if it's possible it's better to walk in groups and for all kind hearted people out there if you see a good amount of money laying on the ground always assume it as bait. think if it was you who is carrying this chunck of money would you let it slip out of your pocket? probably not you will put it in the safest place possible and you will check on it every 30 second at least that what I would do. And if someone is interested to know what did I told the "thief" all i said was imagine if it was you the one who dropped the money, you are probably happen right now but the one who dropped the money is sad.
@@Olga_Reznikova wow I didn't expect you to replay to my comment 😃, sadly it's still happening since this all happened to me at the start of this month it was excacly 3 weeks ago.
as a hearing impaired pereon I have no idea whats being said for the most part due to captions not being accurate. Be better if you have this in written form on fb page or somewhere else. etc.
Still Ukraine is far from perfect in terms of safety and criminalisation; especially some eastern Ukrainian cities are ranked as one of the worst in the whole Europe! If you want to visit safe place you should visit Poland and then western Ukraine... All together it would be great trip!
Yes Peaceful?..LMAO..Don't to mention a war in the East! Not being able to speak Russian in the streets for fear of being killed...Nazi's supported by the USA! Take your bullshit somewhere else!
What the hell are you talking about? I've spoken Russian from one end of Ukraine to the other, and nobody ever hassled me over it. Folks in Ukraine speak Ukrainian and Russian.. and Polish.
Beautiful Educational Video Thank You Olga ✌️👏
Basically what I got from this video is that you can't really put it past anyone. Always be alert and always be on point.
Hi girls. Thank you for advice. I am an American living in Poland going to Ukreine for 6 weeks to a language camp as an istructor and your advices are so reasonable but also new to me. Can you give me info for a learning russian language camp in ukraine?
It's nice to hear you and your friend having a discussion on this subject.
It happens here too Olga, especially in public transport and bus terminals at late hours. Thank you!
Wow! I had no idea that your content went as far back in time as 2017.👍
great video. as a veteran for DECADES of world travel and one who bought a home abroad - so much do i love travel - this is good information. disregard most of the negative comments or naysayers - most of whom have never been out of their country.

Is it ok if the waiter comes to your table with the machine to pay with your credit card ?
Omg how to overstate!!! Ive been twice in ukraine, different citys and areas, had no problem at all if you just think a little bit and always behave! About driving a car might be true, not recommended. But not go alone? Dont be drunk? Haha seriously? 😂
Thanks
I talk about Donbas if the Ukrainian brings it up first.
I also go anywhere I want in Kiev, though my Russian isnt that good. I do not drink though.
The only valid tip is to behave. I've been to Ukraine with my wife and we had a good time and no trouble. Knowing the language is definitely important though.
Natalie and Olga, another very informative video thank you very much!
Just came across this video and I am going there this month in peak pandemic - I am guessing it will be lot of fun :D
Thanks for the help ladies.

So ... you got screwed up the first time. But the second time you were : fuck this shiiiiiit defensive
Thanks so much for the information. I am planning on relocating to Dnipro in a few months for work purposes mainly.
Thank 's a lot both of you for guide me. God bless us all.
Oh wow! Thank you, ladies, for the tips. My goodness, I didn't know there would be scammers on the streets of Ukraine. I would like to visit Kiev one day! My sisters-in-law are from Kiev!!
Great video, especially for someone like me who has never been there.
Olga, your every video is so informative that makes me very interested to visit Ukraine once.
I love your videos. Thank you for all the information. I wish we could make it to Kiev, but we will only be visiting Lviv this summer.
Thanks for your tips ..Sure this will be handy when visiting Kiev.
Thanks both of you for this useful and helpful advice....
Olya you always so cheerful, it's nice to see :)

This was before the change of leadership in Ukraine.
That was a cleaver one LOL
Haha, Ukraine is very corrupted, their cops have to earn additional money from innocent people.
Billy : Always keep this in mind when they do this to you, The DOOR swings both ways.
Useful tips indeed
Two amazing ladies! Ukrainians are so smart. Thank you for the great tips!

One lady got to know me and called me James Bond because of my English accent.hehe:)
When I moved to Odessa the people were very happy and nicer generally in the GOLDEN BEACH area FONTAN.
But I never forgot my friends in Bochegovka.
Went back about twice to see my USA and Canada friends in the city and always visited Bochegovka.
It was fabulous!

This lady has a fantastic English.
Love y'all back
Love your videos!
Really very useful advices.
something like this happened to me in Kyiv last year. luckily for me, the scammers did it just a few steps from my rental car. they had no idea it was my car so I just got in and locked the doors and left them screaming in the sidewalk. I still wonder what would had happened if it has happened somewhere else
thank you for the advise
Great video; thank you, ladies!
I never carried a wallet in Kyiv, Odessa, Vinnitsya, Mykolaiv, or Kherson. I carried a money belt, and would only convert traveler's checks as I needed hryvnia. Hi
I have lived in Athens
It is same things.
If you already live there for some time it is less risky since you know when and where you can do something.
But if you are there for the first time, you should avoid some situations
The lady's English is so good! She still has a bit of a weird accent but still good job!
Thank you ladies! Nice of you to share. Do you ladies offer your interpreting service in Kiev?

Hi olga i'm from philipines i'm favorite your tube chanil waching
I was robbed in Kiev by taxi drivers and ended up in a private hospital scam about 5 years ago, but maybe Kiev is safer now
No, just the contrary, after last revolution the criminalization increased, especially in eastern Ukraine.
Cyberboy_no yea, it's more unsafe now
I hear about all these horrible things happening to foreigners in Ukraine - I can't imagine it.
Cyberboy_no Just be glad that you didn’t get kidnapped and killed for your organs.
Oh my goodness! What actually do you mean by robbed? Did they charge you more money? Did they grab your money out of your hand? What happened in the hospital case? Sorry for my asking, but I'm curious to know as I was thinking to go to Kiev.

If a tourist can survive Barcelona or Rome, seems they have the slickest thieves, I think he can do well in Kiev, thank you for the information👍
Thank you for what you do I live in America but I know what's it like to be poor.

Ukraine is so much safer than my dear France at least Western Ukraine.
Mon petite Frances ! I have been to France many times! last time was last year to París Disneyland and so on, never with any problem! Even when some areas of the city look more like Africa, and you know what i mean!!!
Here in america, pick pocket doesnt happen much, so when i do go, ill be carefull.
Public transportation in NY. New Years Eve in Times Square.... etc... be especially careful.
What's with the Gypsee stuff? I've never seen one before anywhere and don't know what to expect with them. They are pretty much non existent in the US.

Olga ! I want to visit Ukraine in March 2021 . Can you or your friend be my guide?
Yes, I wonder it still happening....
Be better if you have this in written form on fb page or somewhere else. etc.
Best rule of safety in Ukraine... Don't talk to anyone and for god sake don't smile or look happy =P
When you come from a western european muslim country, Ukraine seems very safe and peaceful
Still Ukraine is far from perfect in terms of safety and criminalisation; especially some eastern Ukrainian cities are ranked as one of the worst in the whole Europe! If you want to visit safe place you should visit Poland and then western Ukraine... All together it would be great trip!
BULLSH**T
Only "problem" I ever had in Ukraine, was waiting for a taxi driver while he stopped at his home to eat dinner.
Folks in Ukraine speak Ukrainian and Russian.. and Polish.
Very nice and beautiful
Is Poltava safe?
