    I'm not living on my own right now but you're really inspiring me to jump right into good habits as soon as I buy food for myself! I've already begun to be almost zero waste in the bathroom.

      It's great to encourage others to live more mindfully, too. If you live with your parents, for example, you can go shopping with them and take your own bags to show them they don't have to use plastic... and encourage them to buy the loose veggies over the packaged ones. It's all about education and sharing information :)

      @@blueollis Luckily, plastic bags are kind of pricey in Germany (which is kind of awesome), so we don't use them. I do try to convey how great hard soap (over soap in plastic packaging) is or what a plant-based diet does for the environment, but does feel like my friends (younger generation) are much more open to this than my family (older generation). It's more likely to invoke change there.
      Most importantly, thank YOU for inspiring so, so many people!

    Your chanel is so inspiring! I'm trying to reduce the use of plastic and discovered it's not that difficult. Also sustentable products for zero waste which are not expensive!
    Thank you for your videos :D

    The only thing that I disagree with of this beautiful video is that buying local, for me, means also to buy veggies and fruits that actually grow in our countries. If we go to a local market and we come home with avocados, mangos, bananas (in particular this fruit is really important to buy it from a Fair Trade shop), we are helping in producing pollution through the transportation around the world of these fruits.
    As a vegan I know how much is important to eat food that is full of vitamins and helps us to live healthy, but we have to be coherent and buy local taking in consideration of the seasons and the local products only.

    Hi Blue thank you for the tips and thank you for taking us on your shopping spree. Unfortunately we don't have an open big farmers market like you went to.

    • @blueollis

      That’s not a problem. Just choose the unpackaged plant-based foods from your local supermarket.

    Aghhh plastic bags should be forbidden!

    • @blueollis
      @blueollis  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely. I believe one day they will be. For now we must avoid them until the demand goes way down.

    • @clare2385
      @clare2385 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd wish so too. I've been to Ladakh this summer - they are forbidden there!
      (It is important to mention that getting rid of plastic is really difficult in that location, so this has influenced this law.)

      I don't know where you live but, I feel in the United States it a much larger issue. The amount of plastic and the items they feel need to be in plastic is terrible! :(

    Which market is it?

  • @shaunharbord3181
    @shaunharbord3181 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    All good advice. Unfortunately, I have the narrowest tastes in food imaginable and a lot of what you were purchasing I can't or won't eat!!

    • @blueollis
      @blueollis  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t have to buy what I buy to be sustainable. Just buy any plant based foods that aren’t in plastic and are as locally sourced as possible!

      @shaunharbord3181 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blue,
      Thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply. I think tomatoes are the only food I like that fit your criteria - such is the narrowness of my taste.
      Shaun.

    I only have big supermarkets near me and no markets. The only food they have unpackaged is cucumbers and brocolli. I have already written them copious amounts of emails explaining my frustration but nothing seems to be getting done. What should I do? My nearest zero waste food shop is 3 hours away x

    • @blueollis
      @blueollis  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am able to buy a zero waste or low waste shop at supermarkets. If you’re not able to at yours you could try a veg box delivery service instead. And thank you for sending emails! It’s so important that we get our voices heard.

    • @rebeccajanegoddard
      @rebeccajanegoddard 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would second blue on this one! Our supermarkets are atrocious, and we didn’t have a schedule conducive to going to food markets, so we started using a company called Riverford Organic. They do veg box delivery, all organic in minimal packaging. And any plastic they do use they take back and recycle themselves. Might be worth taking a look at them xx

    • @zoemma7665
      @zoemma7665 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks to both of you! It never even crossed my mind to get a veg box delivery, I just assumed it would use more packaging of anything! I will definetely look into it! X

    • @blueollis

      I eat mostly whole foods and all plant based which makes for very nutritionally dense and slow-release energy meals. I feel great eating this way.
