I love your view on low waste zero waste. It drives me crazy when everyone tosses their plastic items or half full bottles of products because it's still wasteful. I am in transition of getting rid of plastics, cruelty products, or items I don't need anymore but need to use up or give away before tossing. I've learned so much from you since I subscribed recently and I wanted to thank you for putting your lifestyle out for others to learn from. It's inspiring and makes me want to do better with transition to waste free and cruelty free. God bless you :)
I totally agree with you that we should finish up our plastic products before throwing them out! Not only is it better for the environment, but it's less of a financial burden since re-buying so many things at once would be very costly
I switched the bar soap a few months back and I can't believe it took me so long! There's so much waste with plastic bottles of shower gel/bubble bath. I love that the paper can be recycled (although I wish there was an option for no packaging at all) and each bar lasts ages. We use Dr. Bronner's bar soap in the shower, as hand wash, and for removing make-up. It's *so good*
I've always had soap bars in my home (growing up). I never used pumped hand soap or shower gel (although I am currently using shower gel that I was gifted, but will be switching back to soap bars when that's run out). I find them strange products and I don't feel as clean using them (especially as they have all of those perfumes and chemicals in them).
i have thin hair and coconut oil is too heavy for me, i like to use some other lighter oils for hair, like jojoba, but havent quite got the perfect fit yet. i notice your hair is quite delicate like mine, but i might be wrong since is difficult to see on camera. i am looking to educate myself more on combining the different moisturising factors: humenctants, emollients and occlusives. gothamista channel has a good video on this which might help.
My hair is very fine and I have TONS of it. It's very heavy and oily. I like adding a tad bit of coconut oil to the ends of my hair after washing but don't like using it as a mask (it's too thick and heavy to wash out easily enough).

Plus essential oils for your skin type. It's worked wonders for me and the foaming soap dispenser makes it easy to apply since the formula itself is pretty watery. (you do have to shake it before each use bc oil+water lol)
Of course! I know you've been looking for something for your hair. Is there anyway I can send you one of my shampoo bars I make myself? Do you have a PO box?
Magnesium Oil - great discovery, I have to look for similar in my area. I suggest also to close the toilet before splashing, definitely helps a lot :) And overall, toilet should be kept closed at all times (except when you actually use it, obviously), for hygenic reasons. I'm so surprised seeing that people keep it open...
Same!! I don't understand why people leave the toilet open either. I've had stuff falling in it and whatever falls in there, I am never going to use again.
Hi! Love you're channel! You can use like a here conditioner a dayluted apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle with some essential oils like lavender or rosemary, and just spray it on you're here after the shampoo and leave for caple minets, and wash it of with semay cold wather. I know it does not sound so fun, but the vinegar is really soften up the here and evens out the PH balance, and the essential oils are helping with the hare grouth and over all helth! I use it my self for 6 month already and it was grayt!))
I stopper using conditioner because my hair just got so bad and ugly because of it... now I just take 1 part Apple cider vinniger and 1 part water in a spritzer bottle, spritz it on t my hair, massage it in and let it sit for 10 min before Washing out and my hair has never been prettier
brechtje bruijs I use apple cider and water mixed together for my hair too. I use a shampoo bar for my hair and then just pour the apple cider rinse over my hair and rinse it out. I only brush my hair when I was it then leave it for the rest of the week until I wash it again. Just finger combing if necessary :) hope this helps.
brechtje bruijs I did that and my hair smelled like vinegar forever! My hair is very smooth and tends not to absorb things (like hair dye comes out in a week (box dye)). I use a Paul Mitchell tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner but I only wash a max of 3 times a week in the summer and two times in the winter (harsh Michigan winters here). My natural oils tend to moisturize the best out of anything so that's why I try to let my hair do.
apple cider vinegar is the best! I've also heard that tea rinses are awesome for conditioning😉 I use 1 part acv to about 3 parts water with a few drops of rosemary oil in an upcycled spray bottle. I wash and runse my hair, shake up my vinegar conditioner bottle, spray it in and keave in my hair to dry naturally. Once it's dry the vinegar smell is gone and it leaves my hair so soft and shiny. Since doing this people comment on how good my hair looks!
About the conditioner: I've been using this for about two years and guarantee that it works. (At least for my hair that is similar to yours). And it's zero waste. It's a cleansing conditioner so you use this instead of shampoo and conditioner. It's regular organic rye flour from the bulk bin. I basically put about 4 tblspoons of flour into a jar and bring with me when I will wash my hair to the bathroom. Once I'm in the shower I get some water in there about twice as much as flour and shake it up. You are looking for a runny mixture. Not like dough. More like regular shampoo. Apply it to your hair the best you can roots especially. Let it sit there while you do your other shower activities. A few minutes. Then really work it in. Massage it well. Rinse rinse rinse. If you got Whole rye flour there will be those little annoying flakes in there. That's it. Once your hair is dry shake it well above the tub and see how well you rinsed. You might get some flakes out. With your length hair you might need half of that recipe or so. Also it allows me to go about 3-5 days between washes opposed to daily. My hair got used to that in about a month. Super super conditioning and cleans very well. Rye flour is the only one that seems to work. You don't want anything with higher gluten content as it will stick to you for dear life. I tried. I originally started this because my hair was falling out and it fixed this problem as well. I really hope you try it and it works for you.
hi Sophie, I had the exact same problem with conditioner, really tried to make my own for ages and nothing actually looked good/worked, in the end I decided to buy the Godiva 'co-wash' bar from Lush, it's one small bar that does shampoo and conditioner, I also have bleached hair. I found the Godiva bar really worked for me, and I can buy it without using any packaging at all!
For hair conditioner look up the cherry lola treatment, there are many variations but my favourite is a half a ripe avocado. banana, kiwi or Mango, with coconut milk/cream or Greek yogurt and honey or black strap molasses. Splash of ACV or aloe vera gel or juice is optional as moisturising or ceramide oils of choice. Variations of the cherry lola treatment with rhassoul clay or rhassoul clay with aloe vera, honey and hibiscus powder can also be used as a conditioning cleanser x
If you ever want to try a new hair washing routine, try a shampoo bar with need oil in it. Then a apple cider vinegar with green tea rosemary and lavender. It does wonders for my hair. So good, have not changed it for 2 years know.
this was a great video i just wanted to tell you that loofas actually dont last forever. i would advise you to trow it out if you have had it for over a year. the texture of the loofa is perfect for bacteria to live and thrive in. like you dont have to but i just wanted you to know. if you want something that works about the same you could try a natural sea sponge, they are zero waste and work just as well.
To follow up, a body scrub (salt/sugar scrub) or a washcloth can meet the same needs of a loofah. I personally have a soap bar with oatmeal in it to help exfoliate my legs after shaving.
Thank you for sharing! Currently trying to move towards a low waste lifestyle and your videos are very helpful. I appreciate how you acknowledge that it's wasteful to just toss out certain stuff before you've used it up or worn it out fully just because it's plastic. That's my mindset towards it as well haha.
I have a loofah / bath puff thingy and I put it in the washing machine with my flannels and towels. It doesn't seem to do it any harm. Love your videos, they are very calming x
Try using banana for conditioner. The seeds are a problem, so you have to strain them through a nut milk bad, or something. But the banana itself does make one's hair more manageable.
In my opinion, zero waste lifestyle comes first with simple things as saving water. You should do something for your tap..... Anyway, enjoy your transition!!
My favorite thing to do instead of conditioner is put some lightweight oil (rosehip oil, apricot seed oil, or jojoba oil) on the mid shaft to the ends of my hair before washing it. Then I use the Jason and the Argan Oil shampoo bar from Lush. It takes the perfect amount of oil off and leaves the perfect amount of moisture behind.
If anyone is interested in the mouth wash bottle, I made homemade limoncello a few holidays ago and used a bottle that looked EXACTLY like that to give them away. I got them from my local canning store.
I FEEL THE SAME WAY about my objects being in the same room as the toilet. I flip out about people not closing the lid when they flush. UGH all I can picture is the flying particles b/c yeah, I've watched those vids too.
I have a nylon scrunchy loofa thing that I have had since 2005. I also will not throw it away because it still is in excellent condition. I wash it by hand and not the washing machine so maybe that is why. I wonder if they breakdown into microfibres like poly made clothing does. They must. Something I'm looking into more and more.
Just had to let u know I made zero waste tooth paste today because of u. Thank u. I made it with my 9 year old niece. U are such an inspiration! I wish more Americans could be like u!
I have fine hair and lots of it like you, I use lush's shampoo (montalbano) and conditioner bar (big) I initially didn't enjoy how they made my hair feel but after a trip to the hair dressers my hair dresser said my hair was in the best condition it has ever been. Plus the bars don't come in plastic :)
If you have naturally super curly hair or even light wavy hair, I really recommend DevaCurl. I just tried it for the first time a couple weeks ago and so far it is great! It makes my waves more defined and leaves my hair silky and soft. I know you said you wanted to make your own conditioner but this hair line is really good.
I'm totally agree with you during transitioning to zero waste doesn't mean we have to throw everything! We can still continue using till it no longer useful and don't purchase things that can't be recycled.
I'm also trying to grow out my hair at the moment. I keep getting moments of, "ah it looks so bad, just dye it again." But, then I watch your videos, and remember it'll be worth it! Great video as per usual :) x
I know the struggle. I just keep remembering when my hair was down to my waist and all my natural colour. I love having it super short, too, but it's time for a change. Growing my fringe out was the same... always so tempting to cut it but then I remembered why I wanted to grow it out in the first place and focused on that. My haircare routine is so much easier the more of the blonde is grown out, so that is making me push on, too. So much healthier, less tangle-prone and less damaged.
That was a lovely bathroom tour ! :) I have been very minimalist in the bathroom for ages, this is the first room I started with and this must've been around 6 years ago. I agree with you, better keep what you already have and use it up ! :) I always considered making a bathroom tour but always thought no one would be interested, haha. Which is weird considering how much I love watching others' !
Try going without conditioner. I don't use it and I have long straight thin hair. A lot of people find their hair is better without and some people with thin hair say conditioner makes their hair more tangled.
The issue for me is that my bleached hair is incredibly tangly and so I need the lubrication of a conditioner until it grows out. But I do intend to not use one in the future.
I was gifted this one by a company called Revolucia. Here's a nice one I found online, too: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N7M0CL2/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sophschoices-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B01N7M0CL2&linkId=bf1522b2669f8887bf6f55eb2c9ae109
I don't know what to do... I feel like so many other people have wonderful experiences with things that make my hair a dry, tangled mess! I'm sure I'll find something that works for me eventually... I just wish it would come sooner.
Your hair looks so pretty today! Did you braid it to make it wavy? I just ordered my bamboo toothbrush with the charcoal bristles, it in my mailbox right now, it's raining and I haven't braved out to get it yet.... great video! Thank Sophie!! I'm always excited to see a new video from you! That are really helping me on my journey...
Try the solid shampoo from lush, works for my hair pretty well and i don't need any conditioner anymore, cause my skin feels so healthy and manages to condition my hair on its own. I have the sea salt one right now for manyyyy months.
Hey Sophie, I use lemon as a deodorant and it works better than anything I've tried before. Just slice off the end and wipe over your armpit. Once a day! And you can reuse the same piece!
Awesome video, I hope to start going zero waste too! One thing about the loofahs tho, they collect a lot of bacteria so I heard you have to get a new one every couple months....
I recommend the solid conditioners from Lush, theyre awesome, zero waste, vegan and you can get little aluminium tins for them which are fully recycleable :)
I use the Dr Bronners for bathing/showering and washing up, I want to use it for laundry but don't like the idea of having to use vinegar in the rinse cycle. How do you use yours when doing laundry?
Lauren Fry So why do they tell you to use it, is meant to act as a fabric softer? I won't be using it, I just wandered if I had to use it if I was using Dr Bronners for laundry 😊
Angela Coleman I think the vinegar gets the residue off the clothes from the soap. It does the same for hair - it's clarifying. I use it in my rinse cycle and love it. No smell and my clothes are super soft!
Great video, some great inspirational tips! Just wondering, could you tell us a little bit more about your razor? I've not seen a stainless steel one before, I'm intrigued!
Safety razors are wonderful. They're reusable and the blades are completely recyclable. They also give the closest shaves! Here's one similar to mine: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001NIYT1Y/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sophschoices-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001NIYT1Y&linkId=d8304e8d95ccd61e4801fd7ebe93f0d3
I used their shampoo bars many years ago but they're packed full with sulphates so wont be using them again! Definitely not no-poo and terrible for the hair and scalp.
Have you tried doing an overnight hair mask with coconut oil? The night before I wash my hair I work some coconut oil in to the ends, braid it and sleep on it. You could probably use this instead of conditioner
Yes, I don't like adding too much coconut oil to my hair as it cools and hardens and is a pain to wash out! I also need the lubrication of conditioner to brush through my hair in the shower because it's so matted and tangly (especially where it's bleached).
I know they are not zero waste. But there is a product line that I think you would like. Shampoo conditioner hairsprays. It’s called Surface hair health. Just look it up see if it’s something you would be in to
I too find that spray conditioner leave my hair a bit gross and waxy! I have started using dr bronners soap to wash my hair and pure aloe Vera gel as conditioner, I think aloe/coconut milk/vinegar combined would make a good hair conditioner
Always close the toilet lid when flushing and then leave it down. I don't understand why people leave it up. It would also avoid stuff falling in it in case something slips out of your hand or so.
love the video! i was wondering if you'd be able to do a video just on the safety razor as i'm looking to buy one but am a bit worried about them not being easy to use/extremely sharp (and i don't want to cut myself haha)💖
as a conditioner I use apple cyder vinegar mixes with water, works wonders. my hair tangles very early and since using this mixture my hair is so smooth. Have you consider it? :)
I like this kind of vlog. So useful and interesting. I think that sharing zero waste lifestyle it is important for all of us and the planet! If you have time I'd like to see some videos about saving water and recycling stuff... For. Example I stop buying books and I donate my books to the public library.. And now I have only my kindle and obviously a tons of book in the public library to read :)
I love that! I've been reading through my collection and have started donating them after reading, too. Nonsense to have them just sitting there on my shelf when others can enjoy them as well!
I don't mind the Sukin conditioner, have you tried that one too? I think we have fairly similar hair (fairly fine strand-wise?). I use a brand from Australia called "Pure Earth" but I realise this doesn't really help anyone outside Aus.
Yes I bought both the shampoo and conditioner and liked them both (although I wonder if the shampoo isn't a little drying). I'd love to try some more products that are eco-friendly, no SLS and cruelty-free. And yes, local is always best!
I can't seem to find the deodorant recipe video on your channel. Did it end up getting posted? Also, thank you for your VERY informative videos. I'll be moving out on my own soon, so I'm looking forward to seeing how zero-waste I can be, without family around making 'thoughtful' purchases for me. It's baby steps with them :)
Here is a safety razor blade similar to mine: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001NIYT1Y/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sophschoices-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001NIYT1Y&linkId=c394b081b82d1832c51cbb5d1a1a2cb0
Where can I find those labels at when you label all the glass jars, besides using my own handwriting, the label prints on yours are neat lol I have a hard time finding the amber glass cleaning spray bottles with the permanent cleaning labels on them
Your lifestyle and beliefs are so inspiring ! I hate when people buy so much and throw away stuff as and when. That's so irresponsible in my opinion. Will you be able to share tips for those who just started out on this zero waste journey? Thanks in advance and love your videos.
that lighter is so cute! I'm guessing it's more recyclable than plastic lighters? because those are pretty hard to recycle and you have to take the pieces apart. :\ or do you refill it with butane?
I looked through all the comments to make sure there wasn't an answer to this. Where did you get your razor and the blades? I would like to switch to one that I can continue using instead of the plastic ones. Can I throw the blades in the recycling bin after?
Mine is from Amazon. Here's a similar one: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001NIYT1Y/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sophschoices-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001NIYT1Y&linkId=7ce4bdad2e21f9fcaeb8d67955e34663 Yes, the blades are recyclable. Make sure to wrap them so they're not harmful to hands picking through the recycling and chuck 'em in! They also last a really long time. I've not replaced mine yet and I've had it since Christmas! Definitely a money-saver as well as an environment-saver :)
A natural sea-sponge or I'd crochet one from bamboo yarn or something similar. In fact I have thrown out my loofa since making this video and will be replacing it soon.
Rather than a loofah there are ecofriendly sponges. Its not good to use loofahs for too long the bacteria builds up and ya gotta toss them eventually so i always prefer the eco sponges. Theyre also multiuse!(:
hi, do you use always use 2 cleansers (dr bronner and your diy) after the oil? or only when you have makeup on ? and can i use oil then little bit dr bronner's soap and then grund oatmeel?
Hi Sophie, what zero waste alternative is there for bandaids?(that's what they are called here in Australia) Plaster bandages? I've been doing research but can't find anything? Do you have any ideas?
Look up the brand Calia Naturals. They are a sustainable organic company based in Canada. I have struggled with so many natural brands but this one is amazing. I'm about to finish using their products, and I am going to explore with shampoo and conditioner bars
Sophie Ollis I forgot you don't live in the US. My bad. I live about 40 minutes from Canada which makes it local since I buy in bulk. If my shampoo bar works I will share my recipe with you :) I'm working on creating a all in one body/face/shampoo bar and then a conditioner bar. I LOVE making my own soaps so this will be fun!!
Ah yes, this is a struggle I'm having, too. Zero waste floss is almost always non-cruelty-free (SUCH A SHAME). I'm currently using vegan floss that comes in a plastic container that I had before switching to zero-waste. When I've used it all up I hopefully will have found a sustainable option. Still looking, though!
The closest I have come to finding one is Eco-Dent, which comes in a paper container instead of plastic. The actual floss is still nylon though. Good luck in your search!
Im also in transition to zero trying to use out everything's before trowing out and reusing the bottle please when you find a good conditioner method share it with us. I try to many stuff coconut is just to greasy
Do you ever plan on moving to your own place or not? Either way I love the style of life that you have chosen and your respect for yourself and the enviroment.
I wouldn't recommend using castile soap as a face wash, it's quite drying on the skin (which is why I only use it to remove the oil after wearing makeup). Because it dries the skin out it may encourage more pimples. Try a gentle homemade cleanser with oats!
Sophie Ollis thanks so much. do you have a recipe..it's embarassing.. I have body acne in certain areas. would that work.. I love your videos. I just subbed..you have a nice voice to listen too.
I have lots of recipes coming up so definitely keep an eye out for those. If you suffer with persistent acne and it's popping up over your body I'd recommend looking at your diet first. Our bodies want to eradicate the toxins we put into our bodies as quickly as possible and often times that can be by pushing them out of our pores, becoming pimples. Perhaps you could take a closer look at what ingredients you're putting into your body, eating more single-ingredient foods and fruits and veggies. As for skincare, I'd suggest trying something gentle and pH-balanced to calm the skin like an oat scrub. You can also add a little tea tree oil to your body care to treat the inflammation.
i have a bottle like yours that i found at a thrift store but the rubber stopper was ripped and i took it out now the bottle leaks and i have no idea where to buy a new one or what to put in there to stop it
Hm. I'm not sure where to get another rubber ring. Perhaps you could try a hardware store or have a look online (Amazon?). Or you could use it as a vase.
I know it sounds weird but without a loofah, I'm not sure how I would wash my body. When I try without one I tend to waste so much body wash, is solid soap the way to go?
I would definitely recommend using a bar of soap in that case. It lasts so long and you wont waste anything. Plus it lathers up so much in the hand (I find shower gels don't lather very well and so I end up using so much of them each time and they only last a couple of months).
I love your view on low waste zero waste. It drives me crazy when everyone tosses their plastic items or half full bottles of products because it's still wasteful. I am in transition of getting rid of plastics, cruelty products, or items I don't need anymore but need to use up or give away before tossing. Jordin N agreed

My favorite conditioner is plain coconut oil or olive oil. Just use the tiniest bit and rub it on your palms. It's amazing you should try it!
Thank you, I'll give it a go!
i have thin hair and coconut oil is too heavy for me, i like to use some other lighter oils for hair, like jojoba, but havent quite got the perfect fit yet. i notice your hair is quite delicate like mine, but i might be wrong since is difficult to see on camera. i am looking to educate myself more on combining the different moisturising factors: humenctants, emollients and occlusives. gothamista channel has a good video on this which might help.

Sophie Ollis almond oil would be much better for your hair than coconut. I have no problems washing it off with a natural shampoo :)
Planning to upcycle a glass maple syrup container for the diy mouthwash!
You are hands down my favorite zero-waste youtuber Soph! You're authentic and really, really understand the meaning of zero-waste. It's not about buying ALL NEW shiny things, it's about making the most of what you have and then, next time you get something, be more zero-waste and ethical about it. I get excited every time you post anything and feel like I'm listening to a friend talk. How is it living with people who don't share the zero-waste values? It's been pretty hard with my boyfriend at the moment. He's getting better and he's learning but it's a process.
ALSO,
I got a foaming soap dispenser on amazon and I make my own foaming face cleanser in it. It's super gentle and I've been LOVING it. 1/4 cup dr. bronner's soap (unscented is recommended but I use the tea tree one to save on putting essential oils in it), 1 cup distilled water, and 5 TBSP jojoba or another non-comedegenic oil. Plus essential oils for your skin type. It's worked wonders for me and the foaming soap dispenser makes it easy to apply since the formula itself is pretty watery. (you do have to shake it before each use bc oil+water lol)
Wow, thank you so much, Victoria! What a lovely comment to read
Of course! I know you've been looking for something for your hair. Is there anyway I can send you one of my shampoo bars I make myself? Do you have a PO box?
I would love to try your shampoo bar, thank you so much! Could you email me at sophschoices@gmail.com so we can talk? :)
Sophie Ollis of course!

Thank you! I'll have to give this one a go!
I love that you are still experimenting and taking us on that journey with you. Your videos give me lots of inspiration and encouragement, thank you.
I'm so glad. I really want to be open and honest about everything to show people my journey. That way we can grow and learn all together!
hi Sophie, I had the exact same problem with conditioner, really tried to make my own for ages and nothing actually looked good/worked, in the end I decided to buy the Godiva 'co-wash' bar from Lush, it's one small bar that does shampoo and conditioner, I also have bleached hair. I found the Godiva bar really worked for me, and I can buy it without using any packaging at all!
Vinegar is natural conditioner
I'll have to give it a go! Thank you for recommending it to me :)
this was a great video i just wanted to tell you that loofas actually dont last forever. i would advise you to trow it out if you have had it for over a year. the texture of the loofa is perfect for bacteria to live and thrive in. like you dont have to but i just wanted you to know. if you want something that works about the same you could try a natural sea sponge, they are zero waste and work just as well.
Thank you. I'm definitely going to be getting rid of it soon, I have heard how it harbours bacteria.
To follow up, a body scrub (salt/sugar scrub) or a washcloth can meet the same needs of a loofah. I personally have a soap bar with oatmeal in it to help exfoliate my legs after shaving.
Great ideas!
satan`s favorite human you can sanitize the loofah with hot water or alcohol
Or you can just put it in the wash and it's as good as nee
Thank you for sharing! Currently trying to move towards a low waste lifestyle and your videos are very helpful. I appreciate how you acknowledge that it's wasteful to just toss out certain stuff before you've used it up or worn it out fully just because it's plastic. That's my mindset towards it as well haha.
I have a loofah / bath puff thingy and I put it in the washing machine with my flannels and towels. It doesn't seem to do it any harm. Love your videos, they are very calming x
just4meandmydog I do that too
Try using banana for conditioner. The seeds are a problem, so you have to strain them through a nut milk bad, or something. But the banana itself does make one's hair more manageable.
In my opinion, zero waste lifestyle comes first with simple things as saving water. You should do something for your tap..... Anyway, enjoy your transition!!
I totally agree. I am in a battle with the landlord at the moment to get it fixed... very frustrating. I'm on it. Thank you!
Nice seeing how you have replaced items as you used up your old products. This is how I am considering making my transition towards zero waste.
Your hair looks just lovely in this video! So shiny and beautiful delicate waves
Thank you! I've been loving French plaiting my hair after washing... then I get two hairstyles in one! Plaits and then waves when I take them out.
Great tip!
for conditioner a little apple cider in a cup of water with a drop of essential oil
Oh, that makes me so happy to hear! I hope you both enjoy it :)
I do the bit with the Castile soap as well!!!!! It works beautifully!
Also, I adore your little bag!!!!! So precious and functional!
love your upcycled jars! I do the same. I haven't switched over to a safety razor yet but I really want to! Thanks for sharing!
OH, I would highly recommend the safety razor. Best and closest shave I've ever had and with zero wastage.
Love the hair like this. Curly beauty!
Thank you! Heatless waves are fantastic.
I love watching other people's journeys and learning new and different things from them. If you want to make a video... do it! :)
this inspires me so much i must lifestyle like that
Try going without conditioner. I don't use it and I have long straight thin hair. A lot of people find their hair is better without and some people with thin hair say conditioner makes their hair more tangled.
The issue for me is that my bleached hair is incredibly tangly and so I need the lubrication of a conditioner until it grows out. But I do intend to not use one in the future.
where did you find a bamboo toothbrush with charcoal bristles?!!!! it's awesome!!!
I was gifted this one by a company called Revolucia. Here's a nice one I found online, too: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N7M0CL2/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sophschoices-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B01N7M0CL2&linkId=bf1522b2669f8887bf6f55eb2c9ae109
I found that same mouthwash bottle at homegoods. Also I know what you mean about conditioner. My hair is very dried out going no poo.
Thank you! Yes, I French plaited it after washing when it was still slightly damp and slept in them.
Try the solid shampoo from lush, works for my hair pretty well and i don't need any conditioner anymore, cause my skin feels so healthy and manages to condition my hair on its own. I have the sea salt one right now for manyyyy months.
I use to use those. Unfortunately they're filled with sulphates (first ingredient) and perfumes so I wont be using them again.
Hey Sophie, I use lemon as a deodorant and it works better than anything I've tried before. Just slice off the end and wipe over your armpit. Once a day! And you can reuse the same piece!
I use almond oil on my hair for the night before washing. works miracles!
I use to use these a few years ago. The LUSH range is filled with sulphates and perfumes, which I don't want to be adding to my hair or scalp.
I use the Dr Bronners for bathing/showering and washing up, I want to use it for laundry but don't like the idea of having to use vinegar in the rinse cycle. How do you use yours when doing laundry?
I never use fabric conditioner. Just castile soap or soapnuts and hang dry.
Sophie Ollis Cool, so I don't need to use vinegar then, I can just use the castille soap on its own? Thank you 😊
Vinegar can ruin the inside tubing of your washing machine and dishwasher, so use with caution if you do.
No smell and my clothes are super soft!
there are tons of great diy conditioners here on TH-cam I think . you can try those and change them to fit your hair maybe ?
Great video, some great inspirational tips! Just wondering, could you tell us a little bit more about your razor? I've not seen a stainless steel one before, I'm intrigued!
Safety razors are wonderful. They're reusable and the blades are completely recyclable. They also give the closest shaves! Here's one similar to mine: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001NIYT1Y/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sophschoices-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001NIYT1Y&linkId=d8304e8d95ccd61e4801fd7ebe93f0d3
I bought a pump for soap from Winners (tk max) I use my dr bronners and water in it for a foam soap. It's great.
Great idea!
Thanks for sharing. I saw you had some lush products so maybe you could try there no waste shampoo and conditioner bars. Lot of love Esmeralda
I used their shampoo bars many years ago but they're packed full with sulphates so wont be using them again! Definitely not no-poo and terrible for the hair and scalp.
conditioner bar from LUSH is awesome!!!
The Sukin conditioner is SO nice , I use that with a lush shampoo bar for my hair routine
You are such an inspiration 💕
Thank you so much!
Try corn starch as conditioner! it's not the most perfect for my curly hair, but I think that for yout hair it may work.
Much love! ❤
Thank you!
Coconut milk always works as a quick diy conditioner for me, and I have very, very dry hair :)
I've not heard of that before! Thanks!
Apple cider vinegar works for me as a hair conditioner
Great video, love the authenticity. 😊❤
Thank you!
as a conditioner I use apple cyder vinegar mixes with water, works wonders. my hair tangles very early and since using this mixture my hair is so smooth. Have you consider it? :)
I have been using that recently (tried it twice now). I like it a lot (but wouldn't work if I hadn't been growing my bleached hair out).
Sophie Ollis I have bleached blond hair and it works really good. But yeah I do really like it too :)
Hello where did you found your riser blaid? Try coconout oil for condicinor 10min in your hair
Here is a safety razor blade similar to mine: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001NIYT1Y/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sophschoices-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001NIYT1Y&linkId=c394b081b82d1832c51cbb5d1a1a2cb0
Where can I find those labels at when you label all the glass jars, besides using my own handwriting, the label prints on yours are neat lol
I have a hard time finding the amber glass cleaning spray bottles with the permanent cleaning labels on them
Your lifestyle and beliefs are so inspiring ! I hate when people buy so much and throw away stuff as and when. That's so irresponsible in my opinion. Will you be able to share tips for those who just started out on this zero waste journey? Thanks in advance and love your videos.
Yes, absolutely. Thank you for the request!
that lighter is so cute! I'm guessing it's more recyclable than plastic lighters? because those are pretty hard to recycle and you have to take the pieces apart. :\ or do you refill it with butane?
have you tried apple vinegar as conditioner?
Not on it's own... that'll be next!
I looked through all the comments to make sure there wasn't an answer to this. Where did you get your razor and the blades? I would like to switch to one that I can continue using instead of the plastic ones. Can I throw the blades in the recycling bin after?
Mine is from Amazon. Here's a similar one: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001NIYT1Y/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sophschoices-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001NIYT1Y&linkId=7ce4bdad2e21f9fcaeb8d67955e34663
Yes, the blades are recyclable. Make sure to wrap them so they're not harmful to hands picking through the recycling and chuck 'em in! They also last a really long time. I've not replaced mine yet and I've had it since Christmas! Definitely a money-saver as well as an environment-saver :)
Julia Kasprzak also target
I made your toothpaste this morning! 😸 No more chemical fake sugars for me!
you inspire me a lot ❤❤ thanks thanks thanks x
Thank you!
Try Ela gales homemade conditioner recipe!
Thanks, I'll check it out!
I have had not good luck making my own conditioner either, it's difficult!
What would you use as a loofah replacement?
A natural sea-sponge or I'd crochet one from bamboo yarn or something similar. In fact I have thrown out my loofa since making this video and will be replacing it soon.
I like how ur stuff are organize compare to others
Rather than a loofah there are ecofriendly sponges. Its not good to use loofahs for too long the bacteria builds up and ya gotta toss them eventually so i always prefer the eco sponges. Theyre also multiuse!(:
hi, do you use always use 2 cleansers (dr bronner and your diy) after the oil? or only when you have makeup on ? and can i use oil then little bit dr bronner's soap and then grund oatmeel?
I just use my cleanser on it's own normally. But to remove makeup I use the almond oil and then castile soap to remove the oil.
how about vinegar rinse for hair conditioner?
Definitely going to be trying that soon!
If you use Castile soap for hair, do you need to do a vinegar rinse ?
Hi Sophie, what zero waste alternative is there for bandaids?(that's what they are called here in Australia) Plaster bandages? I've been doing research but can't find anything? Do you have any ideas?
I tend not to use plasters as they delay healing anyway. If I needed one I'd probably use a cloth bandage instead. I hope this helps!
Look up the brand Calia Naturals. They are a sustainable organic company based in Canada. I have struggled with so many natural brands but this one is amazing. I'm about to finish using their products, and I am going to explore with shampoo and conditioner bars
Thank you for the recommendation. I'll check them out! Although I do try to buy locally as much as possible.
I would love that, yes please! An all-in-one bar is a great idea, too. I'd love to learn how to make my own soaps.
Hi, When are you going to share the DIY Deodorant recipe? :)
What do you use to floss? It is so hard to find floss that is both zero waste and cruelty free.
I have seen one in the shop, but I haven't tried it yet.
Your tap leaks...
ugh I know, I'm just thinking about all the wasted water :(
I know, I know... I've been dealing with the landlord and the plumber about it... getting a new washer fitted ASAP!
Sophie Ollis you should be able to fit a new washer yourself! Renters are expected to
Wow, tap police...
Allison well the title says zero waste...
an Epson salt uses video would be awesome!
Oh yes, ASAP!
Where do you refill your bronners soap?
hello. is castle soap good for acne. love your video and ideas
You can also add a little tea tree oil to your body care to treat the inflammation.
was the water dripping in the tub?
i have a bottle like yours that i found at a thrift store but the rubber stopper was ripped and i took it out now the bottle leaks and i have no idea where to buy a new one or what to put in there to stop it
Hm. I'm not sure where to get another rubber ring. Perhaps you could try a hardware store or have a look online (Amazon?). Or you could use it as a vase.
Is the replaceable razor not metal? I heard you talking about composting it in a previous video and was very confused
Yes, it's recyclable.
omg what is your roommate SCREAMING about? 😂 lmaoooo i was so distracted about it the whole video 😅
Ahh, I wasn't aware you were able to hear it! Sorry about that.
You can buy this mouthwash bottle in UK in Range if that helps anyone :)
I know it sounds weird but without a loofah, I'm not sure how I would wash my body. When I try without one I tend to waste so much body wash, is solid soap the way to go?
I would definitely recommend using a bar of soap in that case. It lasts so long and you wont waste anything. Plus it lathers up so much in the hand (I find shower gels don't lather very well and so I end up using so much of them each time and they only last a couple of months).
thanks for sharing! any make up? I'm trying to transition out of using makeup but that's a habit of 15 years.
I don't wear makeup often (as you can tell from my videos!) - perhaps once or twice a month.
