Sometimes I feel like buying a old Land Rover just to visit this handsome
sweet mechanic.
You’re a real flirt!🥂🍺
" Ahh there you are, Im doing a bit of painting today" That introduction reminded me of children's TV from the seventies.
I got 2 bulkheads to do for a defender. These video’s are very helpfull
don't use cheap panels!
Love the video Mike! Very interesting!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just started my 130 and I'm rebuilding a rolled td5 bulkhead with hardly any rust but needs straightening, great idea with the welding frame , great video mike 👍
Sounds great!
I'm getting a gigantic "This SHOULD be straightforward but I'm not looking forward to doing it" vibe from this. 😛
6:00 I have a great picture. I dropped one down when replacing and had to go fishing. I found 8 down in there and I only dropped 1!
Lol!
Great Idea Mike. Great video. The Defender thought is great.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks Mike! You're a real mechanic, most shops are just part fitters now. Love to see this kind of stuff!
More to come!
Good timing Mike, Im just about to start on my bulkhead. Im planning on making a frame too, my welding needs all the help it can get.
You can do it!
hello Mike, i had a series 2a in 1969 which was 3 years old then, luckily no rust problems, best i ever had, anyway greetings from england,
This will help with my series 3, cheers Mike 🥽
Same
Great video fella 👍👍👍💙
Thanks for the visit
Looking forward to more tips. I've got a Ser IIA bulkhead that needs a bit of TLC. Alignment looks ok, so just need to carefully keep it that way during welding.
Cool, thanks
You don't see the pressings on foot wells very often and the reinforcing plate where the pedal boxes are attached.
With your tender loving care, that bulkhead will live again.
I found out they came from Paddocks
Doing the work that awaits me to. Hope Ill learn something.
Cheers King Mike. 🥃
Perfect timing because I’ve got a series 3 bulkhead to rebuild. So if you pass on a few critical measurements while your at it.
Can't wait, thanks
Hope you like it!
What are your thoughts on using a 2 part adhesive in place of welding repair panels into the bulkhead? Would remove the heat from welding process and reduce rusting in the future.
It is possible - but the bulkhead had to be pretty ridged. I have not experimented with it on a bulkhead
Can we all chip in and get Mike a new paint brush?
I got that one out of the bin!
Hi Mike, I Installed a new right side door post and footwell on my series 2a. I bought the footwell from Rovers North. The door post was purchased from Atlantic British. After installing, I was left with a 1/2 inch vertical gap between the door post and the footwell on the engine bay side. It seems as if the portion of the footwell that sticks into the engine bay wasn’t built wide enough to reach the door post to allow them to be welded together. Inside the cab the footwell and door post line up perfectly and I was able to plug weld them. Should I be concerned about the gap?
I seem to recall I had a pig of a job with the pillars too
See part 3

Yes, I know all about doors not shutting properly. My door pillars have been renewed on the bulkhead and I think they are out by about 5mm!
We will now get the see the new welder in action
If that side panel is in Stainless steel, don't put it in! The panel will be fine, but the rest will rust like crazy!
I would make one in galvanizt, but its nasty to weld, the fumes will give you the chivers if you breath in too much. Looking forward to part two! 👍
Great point!
Have you seen the Polish company Maer Mike? They're building stainless Defender bulkheads for £1499 Inc vat, they also make series bulkheads, their galvanised chassis seem to have a very good reputation for quality, they offer all sorts of custom options Inc 6x6, very keenly priced as well.
I think Britpart sell them
Retirement has just been extended…again, Mike! Interesting jig. Is it Scottish or Irish? 👍🏻🙏🦘
Both!
This sounds like fun ! No snow yet Mike ?
Not yet!
Is there any particular reason that panels, etc, aren't made from fibreglass? It won't rust!
no strength
