It could've been, but he was clearly intimidated by Joker, so it was all talk. Joker had the upper hand and knew how to manipulate him psychologically.
I feel that Nolan's Batman is so underrated in terms of feats. The fact that he popped up in the middle of this crowded, well lit up room and NO ONE didn't notice him until he spoke, that's one of the stealthiest Batman moments I've ever seen!

The best joker laugh I find by heath ledger is the one he does @3:27 for just 1 second after he asks him to take off his mask. It has so much smug and darkness to that short chuckle I love it.
The actress who did Rachael had lines and she forgot the lines because of how heath ledger's joker/face scared the hell out of her it's still crazy how she continued playing the scene without her lines with a great performance..
I liked this fighting, Batman taking on Joker and his thugs, holding his own cause he's Batman, but after he and Rachel totaled that car, the last thing I remember, Joker is still up there with the people, Why didn't Batman go back up there to catch the Joker? I understand Joker was Looking for Harvey Dent and that he wasn't going to find him up there, but that's still no good reason to leave all of those people alone with the Joker.
Well in my opinion The Joker had already caused enough chaos at the party and after forcing Batman to either go after him or save Rachel he already had an escape planned and I've read the novelization and I own the book itself too and it mentions that The Joker after dropping Rachel like that had indeed began to make his getaway and during his escape he interacted with his thugs.
he was after Harvey dent and well, he thought Harvey was batman and so if the joker thought Harvey had already jumped out the window and escaped, he would have no business there. Rage Dulexe well the joker himself stated he actually thought batman himself was Dent so he had no business there after dropping rachel and forcing batman to save her I also agree with you in the fact that batman should have never ever left the joker there with all those people, but he had a life to save but at the same time many others could have been on the line.
