Renee, is this guy Legit and is the process free? I remember a few years back, they were giving out Windows 10 for free. I didn't because I didn't want to be part of their BETA test...I would wait for a stable version. I'll wait for your response before proceeding.

A few late nights ago, I decided to upgrade from Win 7, but only after watching this video. I was under the assumption upgrading was no longer free, so I was very apprehensive, not to mention concerned because my Sony VAIO is over 10 years old. But, Win 7 is being put to sleep in three months, so I took the plunge. I don't keep personal files on my PC, so I wasn't scared of losing anything--just scared of losing use of the PC. I followed your procedures, but it took several hours to complete, and more time for updates. But, the upgrade completed successfully, and it shows it's an activated version with a Product ID. I am now a Win 10 user, and I have you to thank for that. I'm glad I decided to watch your video.

This is the best video ever! The on screen step by step procedures were priceless. Michael even shows you what problems you might encounter and how to overcome them. I know very little about computers and was considering buying a new computer with windows 10 already installed. I instead found his video and followed it to the letter and much to my happiness two and one half hours later my computer was running Windows 10. My wife thought I had won the lottery I was so happy. I might not have won the lottery but Michael saved me almost two thousand dollars. Thank you Michael.

Michael, THANKS SO MUCH for this video!! I'm a diehard Win7 fan, but with all the security issues now, it's pretty obvious that I needed to upgrade my machines to a later Windows version - or switch to a different OS altogether. After much hand-wringing and foot-dragging over the issue, I ran across your video on TH-cam and decided to go for it. SO GLAD I did! Following your instructions, the online installation worked flawlessly. The privacy tips and "make-it-work-like-Windows-7" info was fantastic. And like others here have commented, your presentation was well-organized, no superfluous "BS," and the step-by-step walkthrough with the screen shots was very professional and effective. Much appreciated - I owe you a six-pack. Tell me where to send it!

    Useful guide!
I upgraded from Windows 7 - took about one hour. Actually, more time was spent reading & researching, watching YT tutorials, and performing file backups. Make sure you backup your files before upgrading, in case of any issues. Use an external drive. Windows 7/8 comes with a tool called Windows Backup, which is nice. It helps to make a new system restore point - in case you need to undo anything. During the installation, it may also help to close all other apps running in the background. I’ve heard you might need to update BIOS - but wait to see if there are any issues/errors first. Ironically, most of my time upgrading to Win. 10 was spent updating Windows 7 - to ensure the installation went as smoothly as possible. Only about one hour running the Windows 10 update - got it on the first try. Remember to check for any other updates in System > About, to keep your computer up-to-date, as necessary. Working as of 12/02/20.
P.S. If you have a music collection on Windows Media Player - YES your files will carry over onto Win. 10. Same goes for your other files (e.g. Pictures, Documents, Desktop, etc.).
    You’re welcome!

Your vid popped up at random and as I have still been running Windows 7 and believed the media that I was now stuck with it unless I coughed up cash to upgrade, I was a bit cynical.
However, your tutorial was so engaging I decided to give it a go. I backed up my stuff before starting, then once that was done I played along with you.
Well I'm pleased to report that it worked completely and now my saggy Windows 7 ten year old PC is running Windows 10 beautifully.
What makes this more amazing is the fact that when Windows 10 was first launched I got the notification downloaded from Microsoft inviting me to get it. The app did a scan of my system and went 'nope, your system isn't compatible' Well you showed them!

31st October 2019 - I'm a complete computer numpty who finds plugging the damn thing in and switching it on a major challenge. However, I followed the instructions step by step and, although some of the Microsoft graphics seem somewhat different since this video was made, I was able to follow through successfully and installation on my desktop is now complete. All programs and apps are up and running (even some I thought I'd lose, like Picasa 3 and Movie Maker as well as Microsoft Office 2003 and Paint. Also all bookmarks still there). The whole process took a little over 4 hours but it seems my worries were unfounded. Many thanks Michael for your clear and concise instructions . . . . . Now I've got to go through the whole thing again with my wife's and my daughter's laptops.

      Michael,
I just wanted to say how pleased, professional and accurate your presentation on upgrading from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro was.
I had been avoiding this task for several years for my work station/file server (even considered paying a professional to come in and do it).
I own all my software and aps, but not sure where all the original installation disks are for a clean install and a few of the companies are gone.
Watched more than a few TH-cam presentations re an upgrade rather than a clean install. Yours was the first one that convinced me that I could do this. Did an image back up of my C drive (just in case). Cleaned up and updated all aps. Disabled all antivirus and Maleware after doing one last scan. Held my breath and followed you video, step by step on my tablet.
It worked! Just wish I had disabled the Bios Lock/password before I started! I am a bit paranoid re access to this server. Hangs up and requires me to input that password every time the computer reboots. Can’t think of everything.
      Thanks again,
      GFrey

I certainly appreciate the info from this video!! I too was very concerned about the impending fate of Win 7. I wasn't quite sure how I was going to deal with it. I certainly couldn't afford buying a new PC with Win 10, or a product key ( $120, the last time I checked). I have a pretty good HP Pavilion ( that's got a few years on it ). I feel it can handle Win 10, and stumbling on this video, couldn't have come at a better time. My hat's off to you Michael, for taking the time to inform those of us who want the best ( and least budget breaking ) solution/s to our computing needs. Maybe one day I can breakout and purchase a brand spankin' new PC w/Win 10. Until that time, I'm going to give this method a go. Thanks a MILLION!!!

Michael, many thanks for your excellent tutorial. I was running Win 7 and now feel more secure having successfully followed your advice. All my data and programs transferred seamlessly to the best of my knowledge. I watched a couple of other similar tutorials, including your follow up to this one but yours had the additional details. I even did what you said and downloaded a couple of programs such as VLC and 7 Zip plus and changed to classic view, just as you directed. A really helpful tutorial. It took nearly 2 hours but I had the luxury of two snoozes whilst waiting for downloads and checks etc. A slight learning curve with some stuff laid out differently but all in all I am 200% satisfied. 5* This is a big weight off my mind thanks to you. Stay safe.

Thanks... I successfully upgraded using your instructions. The first time I tried it, I ended up with a message saying the Win10 could not be installed on my machine. But that turned out to be caused my MBR partition being almost full. I was able to find step-by-step instructions on how to clear out some logfiles in the MBR and... The second time I tried to upgrade to Win10, it worked fine.

    • @MichaelTheComputerGuy

OK that's great. Do you remember the searches you did to find the fix?

    • @salemengineer2130
      @salemengineer2130 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MichaelTheComputerGuy I don't remember the exact error message that I got when the initial install failed but I found a solution by typing that exact message into google and doing a search. I found out the one likely reason for the failure was that the MBR partition didn't have a enough room. And there were suggestions on how to check the size of the MBR partition. I found that my Win7 MBR partition was, indeed, close to full. I followed some instructions that involved running the command line as admin, and entered a series of commands that allowed me to make the MBR editable, assigned it a drive letter, and then allowed me to purge a bunch of log files. The next step was to detach the MBR from the assigned drive letter... I confirmed that I reduced the size of the files in the MBR partition by about 50%. After that, I reran the upgrade and it worked fine.
