It has been a bliss having your content around during these Covid times. It kept me motivated to keep moving forward in spite of limited opportunities. Forever grateful...
I'm an Illustrator & Graphic designer from Ukraine, who's recently moved to NY(partly because of the horrible situation in my country). Just want to say, that I'm very grateful to be able to receive all these gold tips from both of You, dear professionals! Hopefully, I will get a job here:) God bless U
Petrula: “How can you as a designer identify a problem and create the communication [and/or the cross-cultural creative community] to helping you solve that problem? This is a very important question to ask each day. And that problem you identify should be timely and relevant to that network. As a brand identity designer and anthologist on indigenous African design systems and African symbology, I identify with the voices of BIPOC creatives and how the Eurocentric canon stifled the narratives from other cultures. And initiating the ADM directory in solidarity and support of BIPOC, African descent, and Africa-born creatives, has exposed me to design thought leaders, designer educators, luminary creatives that were previously out of my reach. Consequently, this has enabled me to building a meaningful community who are collaborating with me on a three-phase “decolonising design educators” project. I believe I am more ready to ask for help from this network I’ve established to landing my dream job or big transaction projects as a brand identity design and future design educator. Hope this personal example helps.
I'm at the 'pregnant pause' section. And I'm already liking Jonas even more. 😂🤣 Chris, just when I think one of your videos doesn't really apply to me much, it turns that it actually does. Maybe not so much about job hunting, but more about what I want to do with the rest of my life. Everything that you and Petrula are talking about (changing jobs, using previous work experience to new job, adapting to changing environments and markets) are what I've been going through in the past three years, and the COVID-19 pandemic only expedited my exit of my previous career. Thank you very much to both of you. Plus, I really enjoy the occasional awkwardness and side-tracking where the attention goes to the people behind-the-scenes (like Jonas). It alleviates some tension and shows the human sides of you-like it's not corporate and dry. You both laugh, I laugh, too.

The Futur, always dropping content right when I need it! I was hoping to apply for a dream job this week, but it looks like I should probably take the time to go through the new course before applying!
Dream job implies your dream is working to make someone else rich. ‘Dream role for the moment’ is a more accurate mindset shift in order to hold your autonomy and character and not get attached to a dream that can cut you out of it tomorrow. Dream bigger for yourself- work for yourself and fail, get a ‘role for the moment’ to pay bills and save up, repeat, reflect and keep in touch w those who find it easy to want the best for you
That jolt, followed by "There's always something." gave me a really strong impression that I'm engaged with something that's got an extremely professional team behind. It reminds me of F1 teams and SpaceX's mission control. I'm really grateful for all involved in the production for taking the time to create this amazing work of art! Keep it up Do-nation.
Once again, an amazing video to help all of us going through rough times! Thank you so much Chris and Petrula to talk about this so relatable topic. It feels like ever since I started my new designer career, the right videos come at the perfect time in my life. Big up to theFutur team! Never stop learning.
I guess I should say the video isn't synched for a bit... And I have to say how much I appreciate the strength in Chris words, as usual, you're the right person for any student to feel empowered and follow his/her dream even in this challenging situation, I thank everyday the moment I discovered the futur's existence 🖤
What an educative and helpful video. Thank you Chris and Petrula for sharing all that information with us during these difficult times. This video has given me a new perspective thus motivation to keep growing no matter the circumstances.
I am 21 and my parents want me to be a nurse. I agreed to it because in the back of my head I will get money to support my singing. I know right really?!?! Know I’m over following someone else’s dream. I want to go to Korea and have a singing career but am told that I need to go to counseling because millions of people want to do what I want to do. I just have so much passion for singing and dancing that I don’t want to push it aside. I don’t want to regret it in the future. I have an overwhelmingly amount of confidence that I can do it. There is nothing else that I want to do. Are my dreams to unrealistic?
Absolutely love this, so much good info. I would love to see you do a video on how to talk about/present your portfolio during in interview. I've seen a lot of UI/UX designers do video about this but I am interested to see videos from other areas of design like branding or packaging.
These days job requirements are insane they require you to have major level of experience in so many things and want you to have so many sets of skills and each job requirement expects so much from you. It puts you in a difficult position. which is really frustrating and a complete dilemma for people like us who are really new to our career.
But what if you have to interview with HR or a recruiter first, then a project manager, then a "sr designer", and then the VP of design? Also, some interviews are just focused on the generic "tell me about your background" question and nothing more. How does preparing help for those situations?
I stumbled on a position I'd LOVE to have, but there's only about a month left before it is due, and I'd rather ask a recruiter for some advice to use my time most wisely, rather than waste what little time I have guessing. What are your thoughts on asking for advice from a talent recruiter BEFORE applying?
Low key - her suggestion was extremely good. It's something Chris has mentioned in talks before, the blessing of sharing your knowledge with the world. Would the team at thefutur be interested in expanding in teaching *how* to share your knowledge?
Hi chris, i just lost my job due to pandemic, I'm a person with experience of job but not a great network in freelance industry , how do i land up for my dream job with less network and when I know they are not helpful. Pls suggest.
I'm interested in the best approach to dealing with potential clients who do not respond back to your emails, or who decide to opt out after providing an estimate for a job - I get this as a photographer often, and clients choose the cheaper options often, knowing that they aren't getting the quality of work
I started using LinkedIn this week to build and "work on" my network - my dream job is in Ireland, at a small design agency, and I'm hoping for the best
Eve Farkas-Czifra Hi Eve, I wanna move there too and I’m working on it for another niche. We should connect and help each other out. Maybe any of the girls for the paid membership I’m in have worked where you want to. I could ask them.
Kenyce Hi Kenyce! I searched for agencies and designers that are my inspirations, or dream job places and wrote them LinkedIn messages, e-mails or Behance messages. I asked them if they can share their experiences about succeeding in their business, what skills should I improve or how did they land their dream jobs. I’m really interested in it, and curious about their career path, because I want to work for a small/medium design agency in Ireland and it’s so hard to get a job nowadays. I also asked them if we can connect on LinkedIn? Mostly I got positive answers and some of my ‘heroes’ (as Chris Do would say) connected me and shared their experiences. It’s a positive energy boost for me! :) However, I’m still waiting for @Chrisdo ‘s reply. :)

Wow. This was a bit disappointing. I can’t say I found these tips too helpful. LinkedIn is a pretty tricky tool as I’m being bombarded with DMs like these all the time. Graduating or working in the same place doesn’t necessarily means introduction to a team leader. The internship idea is another painful one. You work really hard and then you prove yourself and get a paid gig. The reason you will get the gig, and not someone applying, is because you become the cheaper option. So, you feel under valued and pretty much used. What you get is experience and then you become one of the applicants that don’t get hired because the intern got promoted 😬
