    The PS2 version also has its exclusive deathmatch maps and they were pretty fun. Later on, they were ported to the pc version.

    The ps2 version actually has models that were never ported to the pc version such as the health machine.
    It also has expanded parts in some levels such as the hazard course
    It also natively supports mouse and keyboard through the ps2s usb port
    And on a ps2 magazine demo disc (57) they ported uplink u put in a code in half life and it would open the cd tray for the demo disc and u could play uplink
    Someone also has ported blueshift to the ps2 and is working on opposing force
    In my opinion ps2 half life is the best way to play the game

      These are all great points 👍
      The PS2 version is surprisingly versatile really, my only complaint is the default scheme for the PS2 controller, L1 to jump and L2 to duck feels very off to me lol

    One thing I always thought was clever was that the game gave you the slow motion cheat before playing the game by hiding it in the manual. In conjunction with a cheat hotkey button you could essentially use max payne bullet time to make up for having to use an analog stick.

    • @sebastiankulche
      @sebastiankulche 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its in the manual? I found it in game in the credits menu 😮

    playing through it on a real ps2/sony trinitron CRT now, it generally runs well, sometimes hitting 60fps but dipping down to what feels like 30 or so when the combat gets really hectic and theres a lot of npc's and effects on screen at once. Definitely still a ton of fun, they honestly nailed the controls in my opinion, especially compared to how bad some fps games from that era feel to play
    easily one of my favorite pc to ps2 ports

    It's super impressive that a Dreamcast version was shifted to a console notoriously hard to develop for like the PS2... only problem is that the port was done by Gearbox. I don't want any of greasy Randy's games in my fuckin house, shit makes me feel sick

    Fun fact: The PS2 version runs amazing under AetherSX2 and with a good Android device + a gyro controller, it's a very low friction way of playing Half-Life closer to it's original form. Still looks good with widescreen patch too imo, especially on a phone.

      AetherSX2 is actually my preferred way to play PS2 games even though I have a pretty strong gaming laptop (3060 140w/i7 12700H). It helps me free up space for Steam and EGS games and PS3/360 ISOs I have for RPCS3 and Xenia.
      I'm finishing up Half Life 2 for the first time soon. I have all the HL2 episodes and got HL1 as well. I'll play it on Steam.

    Crazy that a game that came out in 1998 was able to run on a console that came out in 2000

    • @sebastiankulche
      @sebastiankulche 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, its not exactly that crazy considering that the PS2 can render way better graphics, but i think it wasnt easy task due to being early in the PS2 lifespan, plus the engine being made originally for PC.
      So its impressive in the context of when the port came out at least (being arguably the first truly good PC port on PS2), and being one of the first FPS with dual analog support.

      There was a never (officially) released Dreamcast port so it's even more impressive that a PC game from 98 is running on a console from 99

    The PS2 and Dreamcast versions were in development at the same time. It was pretty well established even before the Dreamcast port was canceled that the PS2 port would have been the more impressive version.

      To be fair, the DLC for it, the Blue Shift was originally a Dreamcast version edition before it's cancellation.
