I thought of a way you could ACTUALLY make it drive on the ice in like a legitimate path. Submerge the track just below the surface so the rails are just barely exposed and then place some kind of spacer against the inside of the rails made of like flexible resin or something and then let it freeze. After the ice has formed remove the spacers and then the train can ride on the floating (or supported from below) rails on the ice, or take like a tiny saw tool and a tape measurer and carve out even spaced gaps in the ice for the train to ride on, the thicker the ice the better. Since your train doesn't need track power and is remotely controlled the second option would probably be the more 'movie accurate' version, but this is still pretty close. Cool vid.
@@maturanaccessvlog4424could be a bridge over the water and the night before he or rain could have increased the water and well it froze over the track
in the polar express, there is a thin layer of snow above the ice, combine that with the locomotive being heavy enough for the flanges to dig into the ice and act as cleats would give the locomotive at least a bit more traction than thought
@@DORM-dv7yv the bigger problem with the scene is that to my knowledge steam trains are not capable of clutch breaking or neutral steering, so even if you could move on ice there would be no way of controlling where you were going.
@@Shaun_Jones During the movie, the engineer is seen multiple times releasing the throttle and using the reverse to its turn the locomotive, the locomotive's forward momentum combined with the icy surface and the metal wheels would not give the loocmotive enough traction to go completely in reverse, but since not nearly as much energy is going into the locomotives sway to either direction, the reversing motion would turn the sway in the other direction before it would reverse the entire locomotive in the opposite direction
hahahahah you are sure having a hell of a lot of fun, that's what a hobby should be. Battery and remote engine I see. I have seen that for O gauge too. No electricity in tracks.
This guy knows what models are made for. my older brother threw all my aicraft models out the window to see if any of them would fly, for the longest time i hated him for it, but once the notion of letting go for even more fun became apparent... well, I'm here, for whatever it's worth.

If u go to backyard train company expect to pay $5000.00-$18000.00 per engine base price those are 2' 1/2" rail with 24 hp diesel motors or electric near the equivalent or gas with hydrostat drives air breaks and control stalk. Those you ride on the second car to control it.
The entire hobbyist community except u and 8 people consider them moving models due to realism price point and the intricate scenes the modelers set up some scenes taking years to complete a toy is battery powered not realistic plastic track or wood and usually has the cheap triangle-U couplers
few possiblites to make trains move on ice is to maybe have some spikes that can deploy on the inner wheels and using sand but idk we need a simulator to try and see
i did this with my hogwards express and my polar express train to they were dressing for a bit until the other side of my pond couldn’t hold the weight for the Hogwarts express went down, and I never saw it again the polar express got out though

Nice Polar Express reference
Genuine question: when the pond isn't frozen, what is that track into the pond used for?
Yeah why does he he have aquatic trains or some shit

My son loves this polar Express scene, he plays it a million times over
GET US THE BALZING OUT OF HERE! (ice craking)
So the Polar Express was BS??
Yes and no. Yes in the sense that train wheels don't have much traction on the ice. No in the sense that this train runs at a slower pace.
in the polar express, there is a thin layer of snow above the ice, combine that with the locomotive being heavy enough for the flanges to dig into the ice and act as cleats would give the locomotive at least a bit more traction than thought
