    Looking back, Dead Like Me was probably one of the most influential shows on me as a teen. It's comedy and it's emotion has really stuck with me all these years. I''m a little surprised how much it's disappeared, for a while I thought it was just because it was in that weird limbo period where it got too old to be new but wasn't old enough to be classic yet, but it definitely seems like a show that should have come back around as a classic by now. I can't say I've ever seen anything quite like it before or since.
    I will say, the way people talk might be a barrier to it's return on some platforms. They say a lot of things that would have been generally socially acceptable in the early 2000s that now would be considered offensive or slurs or incorrect or what have you. I don't hold that against the show, if anything I think the show often did a really good job humanizing it's recently deceased characters after brutally and hilariously murdering them (this sounds sarcastic, but if you watch the show it's literally what happens) and, I mean, that is how these characters would talk...and I can't actually see many young people having a problem with that. I mean if it was released today I could see some having a problem, but I don't think most of them would have a problem within the context of it aired before some of them were born (and even if some did complain, the media blows things up so much and has made Twitter "fights' so much of the bread and butter of a constant stream of click bait that we never would know if "Gen Z cancels Dead Like Me" was actual generational anger, a few people casually saying it could have changed a few things to age better in a larger review, or if they have no idea how old Gen Z is and thought they were actually running the network that cancelled it for real) so I think it's less a "kids today" thing so much as networks potentially being over-zelous thing. Then again...are networks still a thing?

    This is certainly a hidden gem, especially from the early 2000's. Mandy Patinkin as a grim reaper, can we get more ideas like this, please?

    "They did a reunion show about 5 years ago"
    8. Eight years ago man. I feel old now, thanks.
    I watched through the show in 2008ish when I had a job that basically amounted to me watching TV shows for 10 hours a night (I miss that job). And the release of the reunion/wrap-up ep serendipitously coincided with me concluding the show.

    • @Stubagful
      @Stubagful  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You mean as a descriptor rather than an insult?
      Yeah I find it weird that millennial has somehow turned into an insult. People who use it as an insult seem to think they're the first ones to think that people younger than them are a bunch of feckless workshy layabouts when every fucking generation's thought young people are lazy and spoilt

    After seeing seasons 1 & 2 then the movie, I really think they should have had a third season with "George" taking Rube's place as the leader of the group. It would have been interesting to see George complete her quota and what her "HEAVEN" would be like. What do you think ? ? ? 🤠

  • @meris8486
    @meris8486 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Could you do a video talking about Being human maybe? I understand you have allot of series's to get through currently but it's certainly worth a watch. The first season seems like it would definitely be your cup of tea as it has the most humorous tone. The later seasons get allot more serious and like a standard drama with supernatural elements.

    This show meant a lot to me 12 and a bit years ago. I'd just lost two of my grandparents and was busy watching Season 2 on Sky 1 when I heard it'd been dropped by its US network, 'Showtime'. That was a bit of a crushing blow.
    I think if you watch enough of it, you begin to find Ellen Muth strangely alluring. Pity she can't say her own surname properly.
    [BTW on that note, 'Clarita' in Santa Clarita isn't pronounced like 'clarity'. It's meant to be a Spanish word, not an Italian one.]

    Rather amusing that this is what Brian decided to do after he left Star Trek when Voyager was rapped up. This seems quite similar to Terry Pratchett's attitude to death in the more "Death" centred novels.

    I really loved "you reap what you sew", so George has to reap people who die in bizarre circumstances because she died in bizarre circumstances so its not cancer kids and car accidents every episode. Of course those are more common, but that's not her job.

    I absolutely refuse to watch Santa Clarita Diet because it had the dumbest poster ever. I am totally judging it on the poster. Olyphant's weak disgust combined with Barrymore's static: "I'm a woman of mischief," face is all I need to know. But Dead Like Me was cool. That I can get down with.

    I really dislike Santa Clarita Diet. Shows about bad people doing bad things can work. But once in a blue moon. And it doesn't work here. Due to the plot the characters are inherently unlikable, and it just can't get around that.

    Xou have not seen anything likie thiis ?
    There were lots of movies like this series back in the Fifties and Sixties like the first ANGEL WITH A TRUMPeT movie. bu after this the topic went out of fashion again up untill DAED LIKE ME. That is one reason I celebrate this show so much.
    SANTA CARITA DIET is to dark and bloody for my taset. I rater liked GHOST WHISPERER and DROP DAED DIVA. Also a new remake of THE TWILIHT ZONE would be fun.

    • @rogerlynch5279
      @rogerlynch5279 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the nmain reason for canceling the show was in the eyes of the Studio Haeds theat is was no mystery action show. One thing many of the actors like Mandy Patinkin wanted to have nothingt to de with anyway

    There were many unanswered questions left hanging by the abrupt last scene in S2 when Reggie woke up at George's grave to see George looking back at her. She knew she wasn't dreaming because of the candy left by George. Reapers were always placed after death far from where they lived and died - with two exceptions. The first was Rube. The other was George. Why would the Powers That Be do that? We learn that almost every detail is planned out by the PTB with just a few glitches here and there. Why did the PTB sidetrack for 70 years the money that Rube as a reaper tried to send to his family and then drop the unopened envelope back on his lap suddenly (his post office visit). It caused him to seek out his daughter and to be with her when she died. And she recognized him before she died. How did she know what reaper Rube looked like? There must have been a collision with her in his reaper past. And George because she worked as a reaper only a few blocks from her living family couldn't resist involving herself in their lives to the extent that Reggie believed she was about, something that was finally confirmed in that last scene. I posted two novels to substitute for our not getting follow on seasons. Search at the website Fanfiction.net for Dead Like Me Rebooted 2013 and 2014. Matters between the sisters remain quiet for 10 years as George realizes she needs to stay away and Reggie goes on with her own life, but events begin happening (PTB?) that trigger Reggie searching for and finding George (i.e. Reggie haunts George) and then there is a cascade of shite that bring many of the old characters onto collision courses. Since the original two seasons failed to provide backstories explaining Rube and Daisy the two books go into detail about why and what happened to them when alive. George and Delores have the final scene in second book.
