The realization that something from 2010 is considered old hits hard.
Hit it hard, F*****g b****!
Oh man, this hurts. I can't believe that stuff like the PS3 which I grew up with is 15 years old
the fact that something from 2010 deserves a "time travel" episode makes me feel old and i'm only 20, help
I still have all my computex flyers and catalogues that I picked up personally in 2010 ;)
In tech years its at least 50 yrs :D

i am 17 and this still makes me feel old af
Excuse me whilst I sob in a corner, 28 this year. Never gotten to go to a fancy computer show save 1 business software thing.

I still have mine, since it's the smallest computer I have, I take it with me when I travel. Still works fine for browsing and watching movies, I no longer use it for gaming, though. It still has plenty of character and looks good, even for today's standards. In all its years of service, I've only had to replace the battery.

Great to see a boxed one! I have a M17X R2 that's been on a shelf pending repairs for some time.
Great machines for the time. Absolutely great!
I remember asking my parents for this exact gaming laptop back in 2010! In the end, I never got it 😥
Still cool to see one after all of these years!
I like Gaming Laptops. (My Mostly was ASUS ROG)
I like Modern laptops, Mjd!
Is Mjd's head shaved?
Or RAZER
@TH-cam Nutzer Have seen the ROG Zephyrus G14 or Razer Blade 14? Sure, they are not as powerful as their desktop couterparts but their 14inch form factor gives them a sleek apareance and 10+ hours of battery under common tasks.
Me too, as much I'd like to have a gamer desktop, I just got a laptop because, well, college and so I'll need a portable computer anyways so I said why not have one that is both.
What a trip down memory lane! I had this computer back in the day. I wanted the smallest possible computer that could run CoD4 and Unreal Tournament 2004. I was pretty happy with it died. The cooling system let the computer down and it ultimately got too hot.
Oh
“I was pretty happy with it died.”
Yeah, on my 15R2 first the battery died and I sent it to Dell to be replaced... then the motherboard fried itself cause it was too hot... what a trip down memory lane
I used to one one of these things back in the day. It was a pretty capable laptop for the size. If I remember correctly, in the AlienFX controls, you can make it fade from blue to green then back to blue but I don't remember how to do so.
?!
Are we gonna talk about that song being the one dankpods uses for testing headphones
Came up on tech moan's most recent too. It's from the TH-cam non trademark music options.
I'm aware it's from the youtube music library but I've see too many dankpods vids that I can't help but immediately think of him..
I hear you there. I thought of dank hearing it in tech moans vid as well.
We found a DankyBoy viewer. Must tell the holy CRAIG
Good ol' Huh-Duh Six-Hundos.
i used to have one of these. there's an option in the bios to enable an overclock to the cpu which clocks it up to 1.73ghz at the cost of getting so hot it basically welds the screws in place
That pretty handy for security, it’s like a built in feature, just do your upgrades before overclocking.
Man, I love the custom design of the OS. It was the same with Android back in the day, I know a lot of manufacturers got a lot of crap for deviating too much from stock Android, but I always kinda liked it, made each phone manufacturer feel so distinct from each other, and you actually had a reason to go with one over the other if you liked their OS better.
“Hello guys, welcome back to another video” That literally CANNOT get old man
I thought it was Hello Everybody
Not anymore!
I still have and use my m11x r3. Runs like a dream for what I need with an ssd and the highest i7 option ^^
I still have the Dell XPS M1730 laptop, paid over $2000 for it in 2008, and still have some use for it today.
Can you believe that I was looking at m11x's the other day
I still have one of these. It's an R3 with the 2537M. It's also my second. I got one brand new with the 2617M in it. Used it as my main machine for a few years. I still love them.
Always thought Alienware PCs were so cool! I had an Alienware 17R5 laptop and loved it, i'm now on a brnad new Alienware M17 and it's awesome! Seeing the M11X from 2010 was an awesome trip down memory lane! a good friend of mine had one years ago and i was always so enviious of him! Absolutely love Alienware.
This is a gaming laptop form factor that needs to return.
I know that 13" gaming laptops exist and they're not too far off this size, but honestly, I'd do with an 11-incher.
The SteamDeck will be a pretty close hybrid of this and a switch
@@scenenuf The Steam Deck is not a replacement for this. Only GPD can build something like the M11x. And 11 inches and a clamshell design will almost guarantee you better performance parts than what the Deck can muster.
@@juanignacioaschura9437 the hardware going into the steamdeck is on par with the next gen xbox, and as it's displaying at 720p and is able to utilize dlss this device destroys the M11x. But an M11x with todays hardware in that chassis would be nice. I was just saying today, the steamdeck would be your best best for a polished powerful and affordable portable pc experience. The GPD and others wont survive due to pricing and not having the money behind them to compete with Steam, but i can see those companies RND getting bought up by other big tech names though if the steamdeck does well.
@@kylehicks1995 yea excuse my ignorance. I had thought they were utilizing Nvidia not AMD 🤦 but still at that resolution, there most likely won't be any need of DLSS anyway to run most modern games at medium for 30fps. Which is what handheld is targeting for best quality, but potentially most will still achieve 60fps easily too.
Still can't see gpd and others competing... Apart from the fact you can already get one.
Or for the overall build aesthetic, but for the money on a gpd I'd just get a lower end 1650 GTX laptop for the same price... If not even less.
Will be interesting to see how the companies evolve though and I'm excited as all fuck either way. Especially to see how Nintendo will go with the next iteration of the switch..
I live out of a van and off of grid power so a low powered gaming device that charges off of USB and uses little to no watts I'm excited as fuck for.
Currently have an infinity w5 2070s gaming laptop and let's just say If I want to game for 5-6 hours I then have to ensure I'll be driving the next day for at least 2+ hours to recharge my rec battery.
Mainly just use the switch for gaming, but man I wish I could play my steam library instead of repurchasing games for my switch. Like borderlands collection, bioshock collection, crysis collection, the Witcher, Skyrim ect. All games I have on steam that I have re bought 🤣 fucking nintendogs
I was going to suggest the smallest Razer, then remembered the bezels are small enough it’s a 13" screen in what I still think of as a “11" frame”.
Nice video takes me back i had one of these also the m15x and 17x. Well still have the Core xtreme original alienware m17x now it's like a collectors for me
1:04 dang that's even weaker than the early 2009 Mac Mini
I have one of these that I got off eBay for $200 about a year ago and It has been my favorite laptop since I bought it. It’s a m11x r2 with a i5, 4gb of ram and the original 240gb ssd. It’s great on windows 10, but is only good for very light games and watching videos. Even still, I keep it around for it’s portability and battery life. Although I never could get the AlienSense thing to work with it or even show up in the command center.
i still have mine! still use it, though the GPU is shot and a replacement would require a whole MOBO... so for now it's just a good internet browser
Reminds of a similar laptop I used to have and somehow it got me intrested in their logo to this day.
It does, indeeeeeed!!!!!!!!!
I had this! Loved it even though it was kinda small. Was such a sleek design back in the day.
I never got into the "RGB lighting on literally everything" scene. If I ever had a laptop like this, I would either turn all of the lights off or have them all be red at all times. Gotta eliminate as much blue light as possible...
I like white lighting. it looks nice
um, what's wrong with blue light?
@@slavboii420 it’s harsh on the eyes
@@bobo4700 "Blue" light is harsh on eyes, but that doesn't mean blue rgb lights are harmful lol
If I had one I would turn them all green
Had this model in my college years and they are still worth a couple hundred bucks in decent condition. Word of warning though is that the hinges like to fail where the grommets separate from the plastic back cover, go on long enough without the repair the lvds cable usually gets chewed up. As for performance the cpu is anemic and something else holds the machine back overall while the gpu for the time was ok drivers aside. There is two later models with the R3 being the latest and the most valuable though performance wise is pretty low spec that even a Thinkpad W520 would beat it soundly in all gaming tasks.
i remember when i wanted to buy one of those 3 years ago just for the sake of owning an Alienware laptop from their peak golden era (2010 to 2013), honestly they are pretty cheap to get today and with a CPU + RAM + SSD upgrade these can be really neat modern day laptops though you probably can't play anything modern on it except for maybe indie titles and even then the drivers for the GPU have been discontinued back in 2016 or 2017...
Not actually sure when but at some point after wishing I had an Alienware laptop I realized that the M11 was barely even a step up from a standard laptop...
Should have tried playing some 2010 games like Skyrim on it.
I have an M11x R2 with an i5 and 335m GPU, doesnt run W10 for crap but runs 8.1 just fine.
Should run fine with an ssd
@@XxmatixX6videosdiariosdenadav It has an SSD but it may be on its death Ed since the SSD is like 6 years old
@@idkanymore3382 lmao, appears you can't read, I installed the driver's, potentially a dying SSD, sigh.
I had this laptop back in the day. It's still sitting on a shelf in storage. It was one of the early laptops to feature switchable graphics and with the massive battery and running on Intel Integrated graphics, I could get 15+ hours. Unfortunately I could never get the drivers to work on anything but Windows 7 and because of the way the switchable graphics were designed, that meant that you were locked out of the 335M if you used anything but Windows 7.
The next generation of this laptop used a more standard dual graphics setup that you still see today. Unfortunately you had to use the special driver from the Alienware/Dell site which was wildly out of date.
You could go into bios and disable switchable graphics and only run on the gt335m. I had to do that because most games wouldn't run do too outdated graphics. The gt335m was actually pretty decent at the time, it overclock very well for me and gave me a bit of performance boost.
What was the biggest bottleneck was the CPU. 1.7 ghz dual core for the big model was very small.
I modified the CPU controller chip, which let me overclock it to 1.9ghz.
It made it a pretty decent gaming laptop overall.
I remember how I became a huge fan of Alienware back in the days even tho I could never afford one (I was going to middle school back then). The fun fact, I still can't afford an Alienware at my age of 23 now lol.
I think I still have mine in a drawer somewhere. It has been taped and glued beyond recognition because the hinges for the screen were really badly designed and wouldn't swivel so they simply broke the plastic holding them in place when you opened the screen.
2010 was 11 years ago? Wow I'm old.
Im still using HP Elitebook 8460p from 2012. Back then it was one of the best in class laptops
Yes, Burple!
Who else remembers wanting this (or similar laptop) back in the day
Dang now I want that laptop now
i literally bought this a few minutes prior to the release of this video
Maybe
I did back when I knew nothing about pc hardware. But if I was my age (19) back in 2010, I would've avoided it like the plague. The specs suck in general especially for the money. The design is pretty cool but it's just all marketing and no power
Would have been cool to see some games on it. Enjoyed it alot thanks for the videos!
You're welcome, Tyroleine!
I paid nearly 2000 USD (200,000 JPY) for similar configuration laptop back in 2011, And it took 2 full months for delivery due to SandyBridge PCH errata.
Gaming laptop and 2 gigs of RAM; we've come a long way, haven't we?
My god i drooled over this back in the day.
I had one of these, amazing laptop, unfortunately these were plagued with hinge issues. It's still sitting in my closet, with a broken hinge, and even then I will never get rid of it. Purchased a Razer blade stealth recently, but even then that thing isn't even close to being as cool as my m11x
"Alien writing" aka mostly Japanese characters that have been flipped around or modified.
It would be cool to run Windows 10 or even Windows 11 on it and see how it perfomed with a modern OS
Now you need to install Kali Linux on it just for the memes
10:02 Blue and Red color morph would look amazing at the logo and keyboard.
The music on the background is the music that dankpods uses for sound test. I love that music
1:20 I'm even more surprised at how he still keeps his order confirmation email from 10 years ago.
I try.
I have the R3 version with Core i7 , 16GB Ram and a great GT 540m 2GBm it still rocks for oldschool WXP gaming
I have Alienware X51 R2 pc I bought used about 3 years go it had 5 months warranty left it still works great. I never own Alienware laptop yet.
Loved Windowblinds. I used to make skins for it back then: Eminence and Black were a couple that I made for Windowblinds and a few other Stardock programs.
I remember my Asus A42Jr, also in 2010, $700 back then with i3-350M, ATi HD 5470 1GB and 4GB RAM, ah memories...
it's amazing how many port you could have on a laptop at that time, now it's like, well here a usb-c port, good luck with that
I remember when those came out, it was wildly expensive in my country, something like 15+ minimun wages all together
Looks like a very decent trackpad tbh. I used to snipe successfully with a good trackpad back in the day.
I already had that machine with an i7-640um cpu. Powerful little machine in a huge piece of fragile dell crap. It ended up with both screen hinges broken after less than 2 years of light use, which seemed to be common with these m11x.
I would've enjoyed this computer back in the day. XD
overhead camera, that music.. someone's been watching dankpods
It’s really just a coincidence. I’ve been using this track for a while now, before I even discovered who DankPods was. In fact, the only reason I found out he also uses this music is from comments like this. Also, he’s not the only one who does overhead camera shots, lol.

I dreamt about this laptop and Alienware machine back in the day
Wow this is really awesome! I didn't know technology was that advanced at that time.
Then again, I was a young girl so-
@@idkanymore3382 ???
It's not really advanced though atm, this thing is more 2007-ish rather than actually 2010. The graphics card's the only thing to consider to buy this back then. I even doubt it would run GTA 4 properly at the time
I have no idea how I missed this video yesterday!
I used to have that computer! Kinda wish Alienware would release an updated version.
This was a cool video but I was left waiting for some performance tests :((
It's funny how back in 2010 a laptop with 2GB of base RAM and a Dual-Core Intel at 1.3 GHz was sold as a powerful gaming machine, and my current machine with 8GB (now 16 because I upgraded it) with Core-i5 8th Gen at 1.6 GHz Quad-core is not nearly close of being a top of the range laptop for 2018 (ThinkPad T480s)
Omg the background music. Hello other DunkPods fans !
oh god, I used to have one of these. I beat Witcher 2 on 10 FPS with it.
such a great wee laptop at the time. would be good if someone made something similar again of this size. I know there is smaller ones out there with IGP graphics but this had a proper dedicated card in it
i dont care what the super customized people say, i would definitely not go the mac route but having a out of the box complete and intricate product like this is awesome
Nice video! I wish i had that laptop
try gaming on that thing, i wanted to buy this Laptop back in the day
Awesome video, Michael!
Thanks!
This is (I think) an M11x R1. The low price was probably because the model had already been replaced by the R2 which had a first-generation Core i processor. My wife still owns her M11x R2 with a Core i5.
Will you do a face reveal a day?
And also:

2021: headphone port? Whats that? Never heard about that
Yep. I’ve got an Alienware R11 so I’m very familiar with AW’s customization

Looks like a very good machine, it's compact, has a good amount of ports and very user friendly in terms of upgradability.
This in 2021 would be awesome with a Ryzen APU or with an Intel Xe inside.
Shame Dell doesn't work this way anymore. Everything they make is proprietary and their CS is shit (well, my "Pro Support" was top tier, but they don't give a damn about regular consumers).
Good vid, I remember wanting to get that laptop when it came out.
Hey! You should do more Time Travel video's! That will be fun!

Naaah, still too modern for my 'Pre Dell - Alienware laptop Collector' taste :P
My very 1st laptop was a toshiba satalite circa 1995. It didn’t have windows, but it did have Cal Trans controller software to change traffic signage. I’m glad I didn’t have the cables to connect it to signage, otherwise every sign in Sacramento would be displaying some very vulgar language!

Probably the only gaming 11.6 laptop beside this is the Clevo W110ER (which are mostly known as Sager NP6110 / ORIGIN PC EON 11-S)
It has a more modern Core i series processor based on Sandy/Ivy Bridge architecture and Nvidia GT 650. I used to have one and it was a very portable yet powerful machine.
Rare Alienware theme was probably done with WindowBlinds.
