  • May 8 -The best Spring Time lure for trout? Is there such a thing? After decades of Michigan Brown Trout fishing, I believe there is. When fishing for trout in Michigan, especially during the Spring, it's the perfect time to use a crankbait. I am not sure if you have ever thrown a crankbait, but crankbait fishing for Trout is new to me. With Steelhead being in river system right now, It makes sense though as both Trout and Steelhead will aggressively slam a crankbait. Spinner fishing for Brown Trout is usually how I get it done, but there is something special about this time of year and tossing a crankbait. Maybe it's the excitement of not knowing what's going to hit. As the old adage goes, bigger lure, bigger fish.
When Trout fishing in small rivers, or fishing small creeks for Trout, finding big Brown Trout is always my main goal. And, a crankbait appeals to a Trout's predatory instinct. Not just any crankbait though. One crankbait rules them all. The Rapala J7. They are the only crankbait that has found a permanent place in the small tacklebox that I carry when fishing.
If you watch my videos regularly, you know that so far 2021 has been an average year when it comes to spinner fishing for Brown Trout in Michigan. Hopefully the year will get better as I continue small creek Brown Trout fishing.
Please like and subscribe. It is very much appreciated.

I would have to say no-jointed size 7 is better. Seems like you can work it deeper if you want to compared you the jointed.

That's a good lure too, but there is something about the extra wiggle of the jointed that seems to catch more quality trout for me. Thanks for watching.
