    That Lady's and Gentlemen is a worn out 6 pinion gear inside the T-case. Also the shift arm wearing out resulting in the chain dragging on the housing. Cost me about $380 to fix myself. Not terrible.

      Cody Hodges mine started this and I immediately parked it. Only on acceleration and when warming up I heard a rattle. replaced the rear ujoints. Wasn’t it. Just got done ripping the front and rear drives out, and the transfer case out. Going to replace the tcase(used from lkq), tranny mount, front ujoint, and seals for the tcase. Will see what happens, remind me in a couple weeks n I’ll tell you if that was it.
      While waiting for my used Tcase, I’m going to rip apart the original and see if I can rebuild it. They don’t seem to difficult if you’re not some smooth brain hack who can barely change a control arm.

    • @VikingDudee
      @VikingDudee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is old, usually a vibration is more likely a u joint than something in the transfer case, so I'd inspect that first. My 99 Suburban had a vibration between 60 and 70mph, any slower or faster it was gone, made noise as well, like a rear end howl noise, I changed that turns out my rear end don't make any noise and the vibration is gone. I'd definitely get the weight off the wheels and inspect the u-joints, pretty easy to change if so.

    • @lukemarquardt5771
      @lukemarquardt5771  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did a full rebuild; bearings, seals, pump, shift forks, sprockets, chain, and mainshaft all replaced. What was mainly making the noise in this video was the pump had destroyed itself and pieces of it were rattling in the pump housing. If you have this same problem and are not inclined to rebuild the t-case yourself, I would suggest trying to find one in a junkyard if your on a budget. If you want to be assured of the reliability of the replacement, buy a factory re-manufactured unit or a unit from a company like Jaspers.

    i have the same noise in my 2001 2500hd. i rebuilt the case with new bearing, seals, and chain. i still have the same noise! the pump appeared to be fine however i did not take the pump apart. could that be the noise?

    • @lukemarquardt5771
      @lukemarquardt5771  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I contributed the noise in this video to the pump being destroyed. However, my pump housing had split in half and chunks of the rotor were in the transfer case housing. If you rebuilt your case and the pump looked fine externally, I would venture to say the noise is not coming from the transfer case. Especially if you did not find metallic streaks or literal chunks in the housing. While it could be the pump is bad internally, I would venture to say that is not your issue.
      In the video you can see me use a mechanics stethoscope on the housing of the transfer case. I did this in order to get a better idea of where the noise was originating. You may want to try this in order to see where your noise is coming from (a cheap mechanics stethoscope can be bought at Harbor Freight or similar; will work just fine for this purpose).

    • @lukemarquardt5771
      @lukemarquardt5771  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Based off of that, it doesn't sound like a transfer case issue but rather a transmission issue. Check the mounts and condition of the shift cable going to the transmission. I have seen these break in the section where the spring is over the cable and also where the cable becomes dislodged from the mount on the transmission. To see if it is trans or cable related, have someone sit in the vehicle with their foot on the brake and wheels chocked, and get under neath and try to put the trans in park manually on the side where the cable attaches. If it is just your cable you should be able to do this easily.

      Its the transfer case, mine eat up my slip yoke and made it look like an hour glass. But I had put about 3000 miles on it before I really found the problem. I put U joints in it first and then pulled it back out and saw the yoke getting eat up so I changed the yoke and U joints again. It makes that exact noise, replaced transfer case all is fine. Not sure what going on in there. Oh and my seal started leaking a little from yoke vibrating so much.

    • @lukemarquardt5771
      @lukemarquardt5771  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well there are a few journal sleeve bearings only lubricated by the fluid in the case. One of the biggest at least in my T-case was between the output shaft and the sprocket for the front shaft. In 2wd these output shaft spins inside that sprocket and will wear the shaft down. It is probably easier to buy a cheap junk yard unit to put in temporarily. Then tear yours apart and see what all is shot to see if it is worth rebuilding.

    • @lukemarquardt5771
      @lukemarquardt5771  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a transmission issue to me. Depending on your year escalade, it probably has a single speed transfer case in which the rear driveshaft is driven directly through. Since you are getting noise just in drive I would bet its in the transmission itself.

      Yeah make sure its not in 4x4 and if it does go it goes into something u don't care about lol if u find level enough spot u could put jack stands on front and back

    My 99 GMC Suburban sorta makes this noise, but the guy I bought it from said its done that for years so if it gets worse I'll look into it I guess, I thought my rear end was going bad because it made a lot of noise, turned out it was the rear u joint, I never heard noise come from a u joint like that one made lol.

    i was told that when in 2w drive the transfer case does not move i think they are wrong

      J Nanney Power is still put through the transfer case in 2wd. It is attached to the tail-shaft of the transmission so it is just driven straight through but it still spins in 2wd.

      The easiest thing would be just getting a rebuilt unit. unless you are curious what is actually wrong with it it's much quicker to just get a good unit to put in.
