    Have had this soundbar setup for about 6 months and cannot recommend it highly enough. Wireless surround sound that is easy to set up and sounds great. Impressed me much more than Sonos and other brands similar and offerings have. If your tv has no DTS compatibility issues this is worth trying imo - has completely blown me away in films and will never go back to a non surround sound setup.

      @@Supernova094 it's very much noticable if your ceiling is flat and atmost 10ft high. It also depends on the studio sound production. Some movies have terrible or weak sound effects. An example is transformers. It has a lot of background music that suffocates the action sound effects. But " A QUIET PLACE II" is good. Whoever was behind sound knew their job pretty much.

    I've had mine since May. Totally happy with it since. Yeah the bass is at times is inconsistent. I watched Black Sails on blu-ray and on Vudu. It's one of the best series to watch and listen to. Not sure why people say the rears don't do it's job so try watching this series with surround or adaptive mode and listen how they come alive. I can't put it past volume 11-12 without it sounding like the cannons are blasting through my walls. I just bought The Guns of Navorone on 4k blu-ray and for an old film this transfer is amazing sounding. Picture quality too of course on an a80j Sony. Smartthings app with bass enhancement on also.

    It's also important to highlight that as of today, it doesn't accept DTS-HD MA or DTS:X from Sony tvs when connected through ARC/eARC. It's a compatibility issue between Sony tvs and Samsung sound bars.

    • @BrendanEvansX
      @BrendanEvansX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Omg dude where did you find this info? I've been searching everywhere for someone to mention this because I've been having this same issue and idk what to do since I have a Sony X90J paired with a Q950A. It used to do DTS X but I don't know when it just stopped receiving the signal

    • @nuggetz4037
      @nuggetz4037 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@BrendanEvansX Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. I raised this issue initially to RTINGS, Sony, Samsung, Reddit. RTINGS was kind enough to go the extra mile and do some tests. They concluded that the combination of Sony tvs and Samsung sound bars are the culprit here. Furthermore, I've contacted Sony and Samsung support. Samsung outright refused to help me, and Sony escalated the issue to their engineering team (although it resulted in nothing). My combination consists of the X90J and the Q850A. I don't think I can post links, but if you search for "X90J DTS-HD MA" or "Samsung DTS-HD MA", you'll come across many posts and you will see that my combination is not the only issue, rather, when people pair any Sony tv with Samsung sound bar, they experience this problem. The posts on Reddit, RTINGS, Samsung communities, Sony communities have been started by me and the more people raise this issue, the more likely it is that the companies will take action.
      Edit: for more reference on the tests that were done, type in rtings . com and add the following to the URL /tv/discussions/Q_HrsEsnVk3I2GdF/how-did-you-get-dts-hd-ma-and-dts-x-passthrough

      @nuggetz4037 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @RK1916 Unfortunately, this is not a solution for me, as I need HDMI 2.1 features such as 120hz gaming on my PS5. As the sound bar doesn't pass through HDMI 2.1, I need the console to be plugged in directly when gaming, and plugged in the sound bar when I play DTS content. If only HDMI 2.1 switches were sold.

    @mux2007ch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you for your review. I am glad that the sound measures seem overall quite good. However, I think you overestimate the possibilities for changing settings and the actual performance in a room. I bought it because I wanted to get rid of the wires of my 5.1 surround system (main annoyance of running cables to the rear speakers). I also chose it over Sonos because I do not have a TV, I use it with a projector and the HDMI in from the Blue-ray player was important to me. Immediately I realized the difference in sound and surround effects. The soundbar doesn't get near a good dedicated system.
    Overall the sound is good, but comparing to speakers from B+W or Bose the sound is lacking the punch from these brands. There are some surround effects but they are not pronounced and cannot be adapted. There is no way to tell the system that the rear speakers are 4.5 metres from the bar, etc. Further wireless connections are poor: You cannot connect the PC using Airplay, there are interruptions playing music from the iPhone (I never had using the AV receiver), Alexa is erratic.
    I will go with the soundbar because simplifying was the most important aspect for me, but I will not keep it 20 years like the Monitor Audio speakers I had. In three years I will upgrade to a brand that focuses on making loudspeakers rather than a brand that does "electronics".

I do a lot of movie watching on the LG PF610P - a long-throw full HD LED portable projector that gives a clear image of more than 20 ft wide diagonally on my wall. Hi there,
      Thanks for taking the time for sending us your questions.
      The DRC feature was off during testing. We normally test our soundbars with this feature off, when its available by the manufacturer.
      Also, when testing surrounds, "Standard" was the preset that was selected. We did listen to music and movies in the "Adaptive" mode in order to get a subjective feel however we do not test with this preset as it may upmix or provide a less natural sound overall.
      Hope this helps to answers your questions.

      This might be due to the the timing of the video vs the review, but ultimately you're right and the bass and treble adjust don't have an impact. However, you can still make changes to the subwoofer levels and use the graphic EQ if you want to try and customize the sound!

I've updated to the latest firmware for both TV and soundbar but it still happens. Everything is plugged into the TV and then e arc down to the soundbar. The fix is to unplug the HDMI from the soundbar and replug it and the TV recognizes the soundbar again. Then it's good for another 3 to 4 hours before it does it again. The Smart Things app didn't help finding a solution. All HDMI cables are new and rated for 4K/8K.

    No offense but this review is way late and below standards. There other issues you didn’t mention such as the ugly interoperability with LG OLEDs 2020 and 2021 resulting in no Dolby Atmos through eARC whatsoever. This was brought to light before last summer on your website. Also, you still didn’t test at 11.1.4.

    I wouldn't buy it because I had an 850a that made static in the voice channel and Samsung support was absolutely horrible and sub-standard. I brought it back to Best Buy and got the Vizio Elevate which has been amazing. I'll never buy another Samsung product, especially anything sound related. The issue I had was widely known and I wish I had read more reviews before buying it. 950a, 850a... to me it's all garbage.

      When I had the Elevate, everything that didn't use Dolby like TH-cam, Spotify, Hulu, Nintendo Switch, and some 2.0 Movies had annoying sound drops. When hearing music, the volume on some songs went crazy high. Settings are sometimes magically changed by themselves. The 5.1 PCM never worked.😮‍💨 I really wanted to like the Elevate, but at that time, the bugs and issues were too much for me. Have you experienced anything of this?

      It's not a bad product. It's actually good and very good. I bought a q900 a + surround speakers and in the first day I was kind of disappointed but as time went on I gave it some time to read through the instructions and the reviews and it just got better. I realized one needed to increase the volume of the rear speakers using the remote in the settings. And also the rear speakers work best in adaptive mode. Other modes such as 'Standard' may not always work well simply because some content was never professionally produced. But adaptive will give the expected results and seriously realistic sound. But it also gets better when you connected to a 2021 QLED tv. And it actually too good for its price
