    Nice footage.
    Yeah, I noticed that about the greens, they tend to stay close to the banks in caves.
    Great stuff.

      Ah thanks! Glad you've noticed that too.

    Excellent vid and the article I came here from. The green sunfish, due to its abundance and bad rep in pond management, seems to be underserved in terms of research. However, it's quickly becoming one of my favorites.

      Right on, Shooter Q. I too appreciate the green sunfish.

    I tend to find them near the warm water runoff entering the river, or near the culvert in storm drains

    I’m intrigued by the idea of creating aquariums through micro fishing. How big do the fish get? Ultimately, do you need to return them to a stream?

      Yeah, a lot of anglers like to take their catches into their tanks at home. The size of the fish of course depends on the species. Most people are pretty good about not putting fish that get too large in a tank that's too small.
      And technically one shouldn't return a fish to the wild after it's been domesticated for a period of time. But it often happens. An adult specimen taken from a creek would be better to return than a juvenile raised in an aquarium.

    Great tips! I may be alone in this, but I love the shorter videos.
    Any tips on aquarium scape or tank mates for a Dollar? I’ve had one in a 20 gallon for less than a month. He originally had some Gambusia holbrooki tank mates, but he ate them. He’s only about 65 mm. I’m thinking about trying some large G. affinis females (extra treats when they drop broods). Very shy the first week or so, but spends a lot of time in the open now that he has associated me with food. When not in the open, he likes to hang out under the end of a piece of driftwood.

      Ah very cool--eating his mosquitofish mates too! I can't say I've kept any dollar in aquaria. But from researching 'em and observing them I would say that driftwood you supplied to hide under is actually a nice feature to have. Any tall plants it can sit next too would probably be good. Sorry I can't help much on that.

    How do you target larger sunfish

    • @KNFishingSmarts
      @KNFishingSmarts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Melvin. That depends on many variables. During the spawning season when most of these common sunfishes are shallow, you can just see the big males on nests; that's one way to target by sight fishing. When they aren't on nests, the bigger specimens will usually be a bit deeper, offshore (but not always.) For example, I catch my biggest bluegill around structure or weeds anywhere from 8-15 feet. If you want to target bigger green or bigger warmouth, this tactic works well on steep shorelines with riprap or other scattered big rocks. Hope this helps a bit.

    I caught a green sunfish with a dip net once

      Nice. Yeah, I've had 'em show up in my nets but definitely less than many of the other lepomid species.
