Just did the same job. Used a 1/2” extension and light bread. Has never failed me yet.

I feel like we’ve walked in a lot of the same footsteps. In 1978 we bought a 1949 Allis Chalmers WD tractor for $100.00 and spent $800.00 repairing it. Rebuilt the motor, split the tractor and put in a new clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Had to rebuild the brakes, pto and engine governor. I still use it today. I’ve always said that in most things that need to be done, “no one is going to do a better job for you than you can do for yourself”. I see that principle being lived in your life.

Currently have a 165 in the shop. My Cousin got it from grandpa when he passed. Well he was mowing with it and hit a big cable or something that stopped the mower dead, and someone had put a Gr 8 bolt instead of a shear pin. Needless to say currently investigating to see why the PTO doesn’t work anymore.
It does spin, but has no power behind it, same with the hydraulic loader, it does move but has no lifting power, so I suspect it has something to do with the main clutch where its driven off the engine flywheel. My first look in there and it appears to be missing portions of the friction material, but not in an even pattern so I don’t think its a segmented disc? Hard to tell through the little inspection port.

Real good idea on the puller , simple , no cost and it did the job like a three hundred fancy puller. I don't like the mosquitos either , I went for a ride on my Harley yesterday and the windshield was covered with black flies and other assorted bugs.. The tractor is coming along in good shape and I love watching the progress you are making on an old reliable tractor that will outlast anything that is produced today. John

People is Texas think mosquitoes die in the winter here. A few days below 30F Degrees lol. I absolutely hate working on engines but I am very appreciative for the knowledge I do have for working on them. I need to learn how to weld

The way I used to remove the pilot bushing or bearing was to fill up the hole with grease, then use a round solid bar that just fit into the hole, or an old tranny input shaft if you have one and hit it with a hammer, the hydraulic action would then push the bushing or bearing out.

Good job with the tractor. It's sometimes hard to do if you don't have the right tools. But I'm glad you were able to improvise..

Cecil common way to get that bearing out is pack it full of grease behind the bearing find a rod thats close to the ID of the bearing, insert and hit it with a hammer, bam hydraulic bearing pusher outer. Also on my 165 massey I had issues with the power steering leaking into the case and it took out the old perkins, keep in mind if your power steering starts going low.

It's all good, you should have left it then maybe it would confirm that I'm not crazy? Hey we can all grow together, I've learned lots from Cecil and it all started with a love of building sawmills.

Every horizontal surface is in danger of becoming a work bench. Good work, getting the tractor ready for phase 2 of the "big dig"? Is that the same tractor that you fixed the steering earlier? If it is, it should be non stop for the summer.

To remove the spigot bearing just take the flywheel off and knock it out from the back only take two mins.
