    While a pretty good review there was unfortunately no mention of the active driving display (HUD) which adds significant value to safety and vehicle's overall value for money when compared to other 3row SUVs that actually most don't offer and can only be seen in higher end/premium models that cost $10-15K more. I just think it is really worth mentioning especially when the HUD not only displays the digital speed but also shows Navigation, speed limit, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, radar cruise control set speed and distance, etc. There are other safety details/features worth mentioning like the blind spot warning with rear cross traffic alert, LDW, LKA, Automatic braking, auto hi beams, audible alerts for over speeding the limits and when approaching red light/speed cameras that are Nav-based

    To add a funnier twist to the Navajo bit at the end. If you search Mazda Navajo through Google, the first thing that pops up is the Wikipedia page for the Ford Explorer. I guess car companies do this because many people won't notice. If it has a Ford badge people like it, but won't like it if it has a Mazda badge, despite being the same thing. Hmmm. Great review though.

    I bought my 2016 CX-9 new 14 months ago. Last week the below zero weather hit here in Indiana and it has decided to stop running.. Mazda roadside towed to the dealers where it has been for 2 weeks now and they cannot get it going. It has 11,035 miles on it. Yesterday they sent overnight the PCM to Mazda to try and figure it out since the new one Mazda sent did not fix it. The tell me Mazda will get it figured out.Regretting the purchase right now

      scottyguy2 I am thinking of buying this car. Did they end up fixing the issue? Do you think this car can handle heaving driving like 700 miles per week?

      I’ve had mine for almost 3 yrs now and here in our area it gets extremely cold (minus 30deg C) and has never had any reliability issues! (knock on wood)...more reliable than my previous Volvo owned for 7yrs!

    I have some reservations for this car, something that is missed by many reviewers:
    Base (Sport) - $33,320
    * 6-way manual adjusted driver's seat
    * 4-way manual front passenger seat
    Loaded (Signature) - $44,015
    * 8-way power driver's seat with power lumbar support and 2-position memory
    * 4-way power front passenger seat
    First, the manual seat adjustment on the driver side of base model and the sad 4-way manual. Finally, for a loaded (+$10,695), you get a decent 8-way power, but another sad FOUR (4) way power seat? Mazda, at least offer additional adjustment (6-way) and perhaps manual lumbar support.

    I like the exterior, too bad it's missing heated rear seats, remote start, heated steering wheel, even at the top of the line $45k trim. Pretty much all of the cx-9's competition offers these features (highlander, pilot, pathfinder, explorer etc).

    • @elliottmanning4116
      @elliottmanning4116 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to buy the 550 dollar Mazda Mobile Start if you want remote start with the CX-9. It's just an app that's installed on your smartphone that controls some vehicle functions.

    Mazda just make a great job with the new CX9. I had the old Sport and now the new GT AWD Turbo. I feel more power now and you are right regarding the ride and handling. Now is more "soft"... but is better. The old one was more sporty, but too hard.

    good test drive, few things I have to correct you on ... I have been driving with Mazda's infotainment for 3 years now and ergonomically it is as intuitive as anything there, it beats BMW's base system hands down. layout of five buttons around the knob fits all five fingers of your hand and once you get use to it , you really operate it without looking down in very intuitive way .
    It is years ahead of cheesy buttons in Honda products.... Also position of the screen is perfect as you do not take your eyes far off the road . Ergonomics in all Mazdas are best in the business period . As far as long heavy moon roofs , thanks God it does not have it and it would add ton of weight and raise the price even more, and Mazda must be about performance, smart design and awesome value sort of best German car build in Japan but with more feel and art to it , less cold blooded than some lifeless and cold German designs All despite that Germans build best cars . What it is missing ; , android auto , real life traffic info and .... cd player yes it should have it as option ! Adaptive suspension for say 2500 USD that would lower and firm the car for sporty asphalt driving and softer higher ride for off road . Also all trims should come with choice of either 18" or 20" wheels , per preference. Another little thing that Mazda could do it 10sec of higher turbo boost all the way to red line that would give you as 50hp more for 10sec after 4500rpm... One more thing :) Sport toggle switch should have Eco/Normal/Sport/WetSnow modes...
    Oh well it would be almost perfect car than.... Overall another one of its kind design that only MAZDA is capable of these days in this price range....

    Im considering this and don't care about cargo space in rear behind 3rd row, cause no family to put there on regular basis, but use as a REaltor, and for weekend getaways, so the cargo space behind 2nd row (as per std. suv), is tons at 39 cu.f.. so, dependig on intended use, it's tons of space and what a sweet ride.. going to test drive one this week... i actually upset the 3rd row seats are a fixed feature, and if you don't want them, apparently, they'll acutally remove them for you, but instead of getting more hidden space for lots of stuff, ike oil, coolant, safety kit and guns and ammo .. haha... they'll only fill in the space with something that covers the area, and blocks the possible extra space... shame... otherwise, still has little bit of hidden cargo area for oil, cables coolant first aid kit.. Lock box for keys... fuel econo is what I'm curious to find out, in real world... when driving normal but not hard..

    We drive a CX-3 and a CX-5 (FL) and I also drove a Mazda 3 before.
    I very like the Mazda MZD system, but it took some time until I get used to it. I especially like the controls be the knob. Touchscreens are nice - but I hate the finger prints and that you have you reach out your arm to touch the screen.
    You can control the system out of the corner of one's eye which is hardly possible with a touchscreen.
    Thank you very much for this good review! I just subscribed to your channel... ;-)

    I really like this vehicle and the hints at what future CX-5s could look like on the next model/refresh; however, I can't believe that this Signature model is the only press mule and only displays the CX-9 at its highest price point (in the mid 40s). I would like to see the thoughts on a Touring trim w/FWD that lands in the mid 30s becasue that is more my budget...but what I would really like is a Mazda6 Wagon Touring with all the same features as the current Mazda6 sedan (to include the 6-spd manual). Sam, use you pull in the industry and make it happen. Thanks

    Nice review. I do like the washboard road test, but some type of loose gravel/sand test would be a great addition test test the all wheel drive system as many crossovers lack the ability to move the power to the wheels with grip.
    Mazda Navajo.
    You make some interesting points on the Mazda Navajo. But I think the major reason why the Navajo didn't sell well was because it was sold as a two door SUV only during a time when everybody was clamoring for four door models (remember the 4x4 MPV's popularity?). Ford's cash helped Mazda survive the hard times, but they also limited the products Mazda could sell. I ma sure Mazda would have loved a four door Navajo... but I guess Ford didn't ant the Explorer competition.

    Love the review. We're in the market for a new vehicle to replace our CR-V and wanted something a tad bigger if possible and better touring. We were going toward the Jeep Grand Cherokee (which we LOVE but we had a horrible experience with a 2014 model and are leery about getting another), or the Edge (which I don't personally care for). But this looks like a real winner. I had a Mazdaspeed6 that I absolutely loved.
    We're test driving the CX-9 tomorrow. It hadn't even been on my radar. Thanks!!

      It was between the CX-9 and GC. We were leaning toward the CX-9 and would have pulled the trigger, but Jeep was offering $5k in rebates. The CX-9 would have been $100 more a month. Since we were on the fence, we opted to try another GC. I would have been happy with either.

      Mazda made a statement regarding the panoramic sunroof; claims of too much windnoise was a factor.

      I Agree. Also missing heated steering wheel in the U. S., but in Canada it does come with a heated steering wheel. If it had the aforementioned (heated steering wheel, Panoramic Sunroof, heated second row seats, ventilated front seats, 2 more usb plugs, on each side in the 3rd row, back up collision intervention, hands free liftgate, and a larger turbo 4 making 300+ horses (should be optional), I wouldn't buy anything else. This would be my next vehicle. Car is beautiful, imo, and does look like a luxury brand. It just need the additional stuff for this price. I wouldn't mind losing a couple mpg for more horses, especially in hilly NY. 2017 Nissan Pathfinder has almost all the aforementioned, plus the hands free liftgate, and 2 DVD screens, for only $2,000 more ($45,500 CX-9 Signature, about $47,500 Pathfinder Platinum). But the 2016 CX-9 actually looks better than all other non luxury 3 row crossovers (Durango is equal for that spot), and looks better than some luxury cars, and luxury 2 row crossovers, imo. A little more wind noise cause of a panoramic sunroof, is a trade off for natural light, into an otherwise dark interior that larger 3 row crossovers, and large SUV's suffer from...

    Great review Sam. How would you rate the AC in the 100°+ heat? There's been some on the internet saying it wasn't all that strong, while others say it's fine. Figured you'd be a good person to ask in your extreme heat. Were you comfortable even without ventilated seats? Thanks

    I heard from owners that the mpg is not too great - 17 combined at best! I just hoping Mazda brings back a turbo V6 engine for CX-9 and import the CX-4 from China!

    • @OfficialMINIm
      @OfficialMINIm 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Won't happen. They may tweak this engine and improve over time. But a turbo v6 isn't necessary for this car it's not a high performance car it's a solid family car and it has enough torque for that. Cx4, I don't think the market in the US for Mazda is big enough. Again no market to sell it to.

    • @Josh-179
      @Josh-179 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people seem to be averaging around 22 which is pretty good. You're complaining about mpg but want a more gas guzzling turbo V-6? The only turbo 6 available in class is in the Explorer Sport or Platinum models which are over $50K. Mazda is done with V-6's so don't hold your breath. You can blame economics and the EPA for that.

    • @DanWS100
      @DanWS100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like that the touch screen is up high but, yes it should be usable when driving. I like a GPS that's useful for more than just "Turn left in 20 miles". Also It looks odd the way it's implemented - looks like it's supposed to retract - should be more molded into the dash.
      The panoramic sun roof was decided against (wisely I think) because of the added weight it adds to the top of the vehicle negatively impacting the handling (unless people like that roly-poly school bus feel).
      And just say no to paddle shifters. They're fine for a relatively straight road but get into a windy mountain road where you're navigating hairpin corners and you'll find out why real quick.

    I wanted to trade-up from my CX-5 , and looked at one of these in Grand
    Touring trim. No pano roof. No vented seats. No heated rear seats. No
    heated steering wheel. No 360 camera. Cheep plastic covered sun
    visors. Wide center console cuts into legroom. Cargo space much
    smaller than the rest of the class. Apparently I'm not the only one
    with these gripes, because CX-9 sales have been a huge disappointment
    for Mazda. I ended up going with a '17 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T and
    could not be happier.

    • @TestDrivenTV
      @TestDrivenTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be precise, the host said "very little if any" road noise from the tires, not "no road noise". You hear wind noise at freeway speed, powertrain noise, and yes road noise. Our audio equipment is very sensitive and picks up everything. The point was that compared to other vehicles in this class, it is very quiet.

      LOL, Toumari, you apparently are unaware of how audio equipment works. Is this the first car review you've ever watched? It would be a similar sound if it were a video of $100K Mercedes S-class. In real life, most of these noises are not noticed.
