    Current Cardinal manager Mike Matheny was catching for the Giants. I believe he retired in '05. This was a pretty good team. Why we couldn't beat the Astros in the NLCS, I still haven't figured out. Pitching, aside from Carpenter, wasn't that great, but we hit a ton most of the year. Just nice to see this awesome comeback!

    • @jackson5116
      @jackson5116 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was with the Cardinals in 2004, and that team with its 105 wins was setup to go all the way. In 2005 the Astros who had lost the NLCS to the Cardinals in 2004 had more desire to win. Rematches like that usually case the more hungry team to win- look at the 2003/2004 ALCS's and notice how 2003 was epic between Boston and New York, and in 2004 Boston pulled off the epic comeback against New York. That was one reason. Another is that Mulder who lost game 6 of the NLCS was another Moneyball player. He'd put up good/very good stats in the regular season where there's no pressure to win, but come crunch time in the playoffs, he folded, and some say it's because he was injured, but others say he just wasn't a good pitcher when it came to post season. Either way, the 2004 and 2005 Cardinals were 100 or more win teams and fell short of winning it all, and in 2006, despite it being most of the players from 2004 and 2005 only won 83 games, yet took home the championship, but of course the playoff experience of 2004 and 2005 obviously played in their favor as they were cool, calm and collected in the World Series, unlike Detroit who was choking horribly.

      yes, the former Cardinals catcher from 2004 went to San Francisco. He was born to steal those bases.

      they all had cheaters, St Louis was no different. Pitchers juiced, batters juiced, all teams had at least one player on the juice, it's why that era is being debated on how to treat it when it comes to keeping the stats, do they put an asterisk, do they eliminate them, what do they do? It's going to be interesting to see how the future looks back and remembers that time period...
