The characters have different personas & that's why Rob can pull off playing both characters at the same time. Yes, they're doppelgangers, but their personas make it where we see the characters as if they don't have look alikes.

Yes and they went well together until JJ cheated on her. And left her afterwards. I always thought they went well together. Gabi saved him from himself and was there when he was low. Then the writers split them up for the ‘JJ and Lani’ storyline that went no where. The two of them could have been a power couple but nope. They wanted Gabi to be linked to the DiMera family and wanted JJ to be a cop only for him to be fired and sent off after Paige died. But always liked the two together.

Unfortunately that wouldn't work. Drake made the character his own. They could recast saying John was in an accident & got reconstructive surgery, but I really don't think it would work. Drake & Deidre had chemistry that made their characters work.

Drake was great as John Black. However, please don’t let John’s character die. It would be better if they could just recast the role, so Marlena and John’s story can continue.
Unfortunately that wouldn't work. Drake made the character his own. They could recast saying John was in an accident & got reconstructive surgery, but I really don't think it would work. Drake & Deidre had chemistry that made their characters work.
