Wow as a local (who’s never gone to the statue of liberty of course 😂) who uses a power wheelchair, I’m glad I watched this video before trying to visit Ellis Island myself. That ramp was no joke 😂

My mouth dropped open and I held my breath when They pushed you up that ramp

Accessible my butt!!! That ramp is horrible! I won’t go up on my power chair. The pedestal isn’t accessible either, looks to narrow as well. Thank you for this video.

😲 Holy crap, I never would’ve thought about factoring in the tide. But I totally shall see if I can do it at low tide that’s so interesting!

Right?! It really does make all the difference.

@@ThatsHowWeRoll I did do one of those gangways when I was in Slovakia with my mobility scooter. That was a lot of fun! I had it going full throttle, and was grabbing the rail and dragging myself up. 😂

This was really interesting to watch! I really want to go to New York one day but I’m really afraid about accessibility lol

Definitely know that feeling! NYC has its ups and downs (high and low tide included 😅), but you can find a way around most of them with a little creativity. Don’t let those uncertainties stop you; it’s totally worth a visit!

Im on a wheelchair and I went last November and it was so nice. Would not recommend hop on- hop off buses since for us wheelchair users it’s just not worth It. Must say Uber saved our trip. So quick and many accesible vehicles available.

😂😂🤦‍♂️ I didn’t realize that ramp until you started climbing it. I’m going with a powered wheelchair I don’t think I’ve got enough juice for that steep

You're not alone here - a lot of the able bodied people on board the ferry didn't have the juice for that ramp either! Only the attendants were unfazed by it.

@@ThatsHowWeRoll I meant I don’t think my scooter will have enough juice. But as long as I can do it at low tide I’ll be all right

Totally understood. 😄 Low tide is going to save the day.

We are planning a trip to NYC and my son has a Mobility Scooter...I don't think we can go on the subway with it...I'm so worried about getting around the city with the scooter. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @ThatsHowWeRoll

Excited for you! Subway stops are definitely hit or miss, but the city's bus system is much more accessible. Check out parts 4 and 5 of this episode for more about that! Also, if your son uses paratransit (call-ahead, shared-ride public transit that's fully accessible) in your home county, you can set up visitor status to use that in NYC as well! That would definitely take some of the guess work out of how to navigate.

@@ThatsHowWeRoll I will have to look up paratransit, I don't know what that is. Love you girls, glad you made these videos, so helpful!

Aww thanks so much! 🥰 We so appreciate the encouragement to keep creating videos. Check the MTA (Metro Transportation Authority) website for all the info on paratransit - it’s a really helpful resource!

@@ThatsHowWeRoll I contacted Paratransit and they require registration meaning they need confirmation from my son's doctor's office...If this goes through it would take a load off our shoulders as far as transportation in getting around the city.
