This was so wonderful to watch! As a person who uses a rollator than converts to a wheelchair that my husband pushes this was great to see. I love that they have a water wheelchair!
You touched me 😢. I always that inconvenience with my mom...I want her to enjoy as well. The only place I have found is Dream Dominicus Dominican Republic. They have a beach wheelchair. The stuff brings you in and out of the water. I really love this place just because my mom can be treated with respect. Love your videos.
We’re you at Hilton Hawaiian village? The dock looked familiar. That’s where we are taking dad this summer. I hope they have those chairs when we go!!❤🎉🎉
Yes! We’ve heard a rumor that the equipment rentals are under new management now, but here’s hoping the beach chairs are still available. 🤞 Another place to find info on available beach chairs is the Honolulu Parks Department website!
Where there's a will there's (usually) a way! Honestly, the awkwardness is mostly due to the physical reality of limited movement. The beach chair itself is a pretty genius mobility aid, we think!
We found this chair at Fort DeRussy Beach in Waikiki! The beach boys at the rental stand are super friendly and helpful, but in order to get the chair into water we would definitely recommend bringing a friend to help. There’s also a full list of beach wheelchairs available island-wide on the City and County of Honolulu website, honolulu.gov.

Hmm, good question! We did a stand-and-pivot transfer. The place that provides the beach chair does not have a lift/hoist as far as we know, but perhaps there’s a way with a portable hoist if you can find a way to source one? There are paved areas and flat ground in the vicinity so technically it would be possible.
Taking this chair out for a spin might be a little tricky for you because once you check it out from the rental stand, you’re pretty much on your own. As you can probably tell, we were a bit overwhelmed by the physicality of maneuvering this chair, even with the extra help from a friend. It sounds like a better fit for you would be AccesSurf, the organization we meet in the next segment of this episode! They have a monthly Day at the Beach event with lots of trained and trustworthy volunteers who can help you into the water. Check them out at accessurf.org!

Thanks so much! Part 3 (and bonus content!) comin' atcha.
Check out Sand Riders for floating in water and getting back on to the chair with a breeze. Great video.
Thanks for the feedback and the tip! Will check that out for sure.
Great video! You have to take a look at the swimming rig from Marinex US. You would love it. Hopefully soon in America.
nice to see that it finaly worked but it still annoys me that it is still so awkward to get someone into the water

How do you use hoist and sling to get into the beach-chair?

Not sure of the name they are using now, but it is the beach equipment stand on the Hilton Hawaiian Village beach.
