    Recently the developer of Heartbeat and her partner have expressed and dabbled in some ideologies that I personally find ignorant and hateful in regards to Transgender people. I think obviously, this is something that I do not condone and now feel the need to make a little statement in regards to that. Now my experience with Heartbeat has absolutely nothing to do with the developer, I've never even spoken to her beyond a public Twitter interaction. What you see here in the video is a capsule of my feelings regarding that game when I played it in June of 2019.
    So if you're interested in playing Heartbeat, please be aware that your money will be going to this type of individual. Hopefully she will do a little more empathetic research, renounce these views and move forward from this, but until then I feel obliged to have this statement on this video.
    Thanks to everyone who informed me of this,
    Austin

      Austin Eruption Thank you for including this comment!! I am watching this video for the first time now and it kinda made my lil trans heart jump in my throat when I heard that title. It means a lot when cis creators clarify stuff like this, even if it seems like a small gesture.

    • @Exorian
      @Exorian 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Kudos for clarifying that, Austin. Honestly, until the first semester of 2019, I had nothing but praises for Heartbeat and was actively encouraging everyone I could to give it a shot!
      ...And then this happened... And I'm all regrets now...
      Especially ironic because the whole time you're playing it, the game shows same-gender relationships as something normal, very much abundant, and surprisingly, in a non-bombastic way as they're usually portrayed... Well, everywhere else, which is a huge plus! So why the devs of this game are suddenly condemning a main part of the LGBT spectrum that the game's plot defends?
      I'm honestly anxious from them to make the appropriate amends and pardons, and cut off the bad connections, so I can play this game with a clear conscience again.

    Ok just a point about Mystery Dungeon games: they ARE Roguelikes, since they are *like* Rogue (as in the game Rogue, *which does not just mean proc gen and permadeath*). There was always a term for them, they were always Roguelikes - it's just what they were called in Japan. Roguelikes, as they are commonly called today, mostly aren't Roguelikes. Most of them are roguelites (Enter the Gungeon, Binding of Isaac, Risk of Rain, FTL, Spelunky, Slay the Spire, Dead Cells, etc) - roguelite, by the way, is not saying anything about the quality of those games, just that they aren't so close to Rogue in core gameplay, but take some elements of Rogue and apply it to their design

    The thing about Shin Megami Tensei and Pokémon is that in SMT, you recruit the creatures, in Pokémon you catch them. When a Pokémon is caught it is subservient and will not question, and SMT demons have enough free will to refuse to join your party (that doesn't even need the creatures for you to fight).

    Hey, HEARTBEAT! I've had my eye on that one for a while.
    Games like this are why I love RPG Maker so much! There are so many gems made with the various versions of RM (HEARTBEAT, Seraphic Blue, Gaia's Melody HD, Crimson Shift, various Pokemon fangames, etc.) and I think it's accessibly is why it gets such a bad rep, because it's easy for anyone to use.
    Also, I noticed that they used a lot of the default RMMV animations and just pixelated them. I'm totally ok with that! They fit better than they did before they were pixilized.

    4:50 I think the saddest part about this is that not only are the 2 Shaman King metroidvanias pretty decent, they also do the whole monster collection via dead people waaaay better. Like, you can actually make _teams_ of ghosts with various effects that directly or passively affect your stats, energy consumption or just the way you traverse terrain, it's really cool.
    You can even nuzlocke it by choosing not to use certain spirits (like Amidamaru, who of course is the MVP one and is pretty OP) for a more challenging experience.

    Omg, Tao's Adventure was great. I bought it used based purely on the fact that the art looked cool and I'd never heard of it (which was a huge plus in edgy teenager me's book). It got pretty difficult too, makes me want to play it again now that I'm a decade older.

    "Pokèmon Clone" should only be reserved for genuine clones, the term you are looking for is "Monster-Tamer". Monster-Tamer is a genre which has been around before Pokèmon, and nobody owns the genre and the mechanic of catching, breeding, or taming monsters. Just wanted to get this out there for those who are interested or are saying "Pokèmon Clone". I have yet to watch this video just needed to say that games like Nexomon, Coromon, Monster Sanctuary, Monster Crown, TemTem and Digimon are NOT Pokèmon clones, something can be inspired or have similar aspects to another thing without being a rip-off or clone.
