Intresting how people talked and carried themselves in 2001 versus today... Even on a horrible day like that cant imagine anyone acting that respectable this day and age
To be in NYC on that day -- I have NEVER gotten over it. I WISH I'd still been living in PDX; but I'd already moved back East in 1996. Five years BEFORE that day.
I remember that day. I lived in Portland at the time. It was about 7 o’clock in the morning pacific time when I was woke up by a loud knocking at my door and the frantic voice of my girlfriend at the time yelling my name. At first I was irritated because it was my day off and I wanted to sleep in. But something in her voice told me it was pretty serious. So I let her in and she had tears in her eyes and she told me that terrorists attacked New York City about an hour ago. I turned on the TV and watched the footage. It was horrible watching those planes hit the twin towers. Everything was horrible about it. Air space was restricted and the only planes that were in the sky were military planes. At the Pioneer Square in downtown Portland, people were signing a huge piece of construction paper that went across the Square. It was for the victims of 9/11 in New York city. I think I signed two or three of them. I remember for about three weeks Americans bonded. It sure didn’t take long for that to dissolve.
Unfortunately companies whether they are privately owned or government owned are almost always re-active rather than proactive. Even if one can think of possible scenarios that could happen they won't justify spending the money preparing for something that probably won't happen until it does happen and then they will spend the money to try and prevent it from happening again.
You also have to remember that TSA didn't exist prior to 9/11 it was created in response to that attack. Before then it was private security companies that were contracted by the airports to handle security.
Can't believe it's been 20 years since the saddest day in American history
PDX in 2001 looks kind of the same as before 2020 except that there’s no concourse connector which got added in 2005.

They should've done all this & gotten prepared before 911 not after.,but then again whose 2 know what the future holds.
