    I feel like this is less of a reboot/remake, but more of a continuation. If anyone remembers, the ending of the '77 film, Elliot had to leave Pete to help another kid. So, I reckon, he might be the same dragon as in the 1977 film. Dragons are meant to live for centuries, so the (canon) time gap of around 60-70 years would not only allow him to carry on helping multiple kids, but evolve from the cartoony, bipedal dragon to the quadruped, dog-like dragon. At least, that's my headcanon. He just got lucky and found two kids called Pete, and one of them gave him a name he already had.

    Yeah, as much as I still cried at that goodbye scene at the end, the original will always be my favorite. Is it corny? An entire feild's worth. But, for one thing I grew up with that version and thus it's a major part of my childhood. Besides, despite the corniness of it all, I've always had a love for dragons, fantasy, musicals and just anything fun and whimsical. In other words, I love that movie. Eliot, you will forever be in my heart you adorable little goof.

    1:20- Nice to see someone come out and say that. That opening number between the two leads, especially, is the most blatantly cheesy and schmaltzy song Disney has ever given us. I kind of enjoy it for what it is, but it is a pretty awkward film.

    • @Thomasmemoryscentral
      @Thomasmemoryscentral 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The remake has some good things like some of the cast but it isn't really that memorable outside a few action scenes and the effects plus it feels awkward at times.
      Like in the scene where the kid's car is tipping over, the combination of the inside shot showing everything flying in slow motion and the cheery song playing made me snicker a bit to how awkward it felt.

    The original was my favorite movie from when I was three until it tragically was eaten in the VHS player. It was over the top, high energy, ridiculous fun. I still enjoy it on random occasions. Everyone who knows me thought I'd be all over the reboot. I took forever to see it because it looked like a watered down version. When I finally did, I WAS SO BORED. There was nothing interesting about it. As you said, it was safe. That's about it.

  • @GingerWizzard1994
    @GingerWizzard1994 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ya, 6/10 is way too harsh. The opening was pretty weak, but it really picked up for me, and the relationship between Pete and Elliot was lovely. I loved Elliot, even though Disney clearly borrowed from Toothless in his characterization. I also liked the genuine bond between Pete and the family. If I had one problem, it would be that the score, as great as it was, was a tad overused, and that Pete and Elliot could have shared a bit more screen-time together, but what they did show was very heartwarming and gave me all the feels.

    I'm inclined to agree. I've got the original movie on DVD and it's a classic - a childhood favourite (after all, who doesn't love dragons?)
    Sure, a goofy old film, but the hillbilly Gogans and Mickey Rooney really added comedy, and Doc Terminus was a villain with a purpose. As Agent Smith said, without purpose we can't exist, so... what is a villain without purpose but a poorly-written character?

    Alice in Wonderland (2010): Honestly liked this film even though they didn't have to make it so serious.
    The Sorcerer's Apprentice: Honestly LOVE this movie!
    Maleficent: Thought I was gonna hate it, but I thought it was actually pretty good, even though it's VERY different from the original "Sleeping Beauty".

    Just saw the movie a few weeks ago and I thought it was wonderful film. I'll admit my memories with the original Pete's Dragon are fuzzy, but I did enjoy the original a lot as well. The only thing I think this film is guilty of and is on Disney's part is that they didn't do enough to advertise the movie. Seeing as how it didn't make a lot of money at the box office following its debut weekend. The story and characters are great and the special effects on very well done. It's an 8.5/10 for me because i will agree the villain was kinda meh.

    Hey Pete's Dragon 2016 fans out there; How about making a Pete's Dragon 2016 What If? fanimated (a mix of fan and animated) film of what could've happen if Pete's Dragon 2016 was all about Paul and Ernie who must stop a revenge evil wizard and his mighty mix army of knights and futuristic knights, hi-tech cyborg barbarian and wizards from taking over the world in one fell swoop!

    Actually, "Ernie" does kind of look like the original Elliot. Especially the design of his mouth.

    So....this movie is a lot like the live-action Jem and the Holograms movie, where it's affiliated to the original material, in name only. But, nothing else. Except the key differences between this movie and that movie is that it has a bigger budget and a better script for the actors to work with and a more competent director to work with.
    *pfft!* Well, I'm not gonna bother watching this movie, anyways.

    I think you were a little too harsh on the movie i was born in the early 2000's so i don't really watch 1999's movies i watch this movie in the theater and i loved it :) The original seems too stuiped with the gross looking dragon. i like the CGI dragon in the newer version munch better, and besides the original one had creepy songs in them so they couldn't make this one really creepy or that would just scare people to death. I do think sometimes you can be good at review movies but other times you need a little help.
