    I am an experienced boat builder and used to working wood into all kinds of shapes, and like you I have the right tools. My favorite tool for these jobs is my small hand planer. My daughter moved in when the pandemic started and bought a Ram Pro-Master City. We tricked it out in two months. It was fully insulated. I used cedar wherever possible. I wired it and installed a roof van, 110 volt plug, I used an old 2 drawer oak file cabinet for a stove/ pan/ dry food compartment that could easily be moved outside. It was a great experience for her to learn woodworking / electrical/ plumbing. Fast froward after her traveling all over she is now a fulltime van-lifer with a Thor Talero 20J. Light is right. Every ounce is important. Your on the right track.

      I had to look up what a hand planer is, it may be useful when I’m building my furniture! Sounds like your daughter has a cool set up! Definitely a great way to learn building skills, I have little building experience and I’m learning so much.

    A great idea that i seen on ytube was adding brackets on the back doors so u can add an outside table when the doors are open and can cook outside when weather is good. Ill look for the video in my history and send a link.

    You should definitely consider the bed/table set up that @jugaadityourself shows off. A great design that with a few tweaks could be amazing.

    Tyler, are you going to use sound deadening on the walls, doors etc ?

    • @SweetPotatoTyler
      @SweetPotatoTyler  ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about it but for insulation I’ll be using spray foam and 3M thinsulate which are both supposed to be good for sound deadening so I thought I’d save some money and skip using something like Kilmat for sound deadening!

    Great videography, brother! Hope the build is going well. I'm trying to dial in my own Ford Transit right now and I'm about to begin framing and insulation. Are you far enough into your build to know if your framing is working out well? Also, is there a reason you put up framing before insulation or a headliner shelf? I'm learning my way through this too so would love to hear what's working for ya.

      Thank you! Good questions, I'm not so far yet where I've attached anything to the walls or ceiling but will def make an update video when I get there. For insulation I'm doing a mix of 3M Thinsulate and spray foam, I started insulating with the thinsulate already but I'm gonna wait until I do my electrical wiring stuff before I spray foam because I'm thinking it will just make it a lot easier!

      @@SweetPotatoTyler So I ended up framing my van and putting up roof paneling and puck lights. Spacing is tight in there, and I realized every vertical inch matters so I ended up putting my framing boards between the crossbeams and not on top of them like you had. Hope your furniture build goes well, but I've been analyzing every vertical inch because you could easily make it so you can't sit upright in your van.

    Are the walls and ceiling on now? If so, how did that process go for you with this framing? I notice you screwed in the 1x3s in two places. I had been thinking of adding a 3rd, screwing into that very top part of the metal too, which would increase tension but bring the top of the wood back towards the metal. Did you find that having screwed in those two places worked out ok for you when you put up wall/ceiling paneling?

    Watching you drill in each new screw through the metal was painful. Every screw is now a potential rust issue.
    I might of gone with nutserts and make very limited anchor points for cabinets and such. Use self adhesive sound deadnaming pads with felt wall covering. You've got so much wasted useable space covering up cavities with the wood walls.
