Haha , us Albany locals won't even feed those Morwong to the cat 😂😂🤣🤣.Hope you managed to get something a bit more tasty . Enjoyed your video , subscribed .
I don't subscribe to many channels, but I love watching what you guys are getting up to, you seem very down to earth and I'm glad you're living your best lives. Keep up the great content 🤙🤙
I’d love to be back in your incredible country overlanding again with my Wrangler JKU. I overlanded back in 1973 with a VW Kombi. My wife and three sons did a 29,000 mile adventure over one year. I’ll bet many of the tracks haven’t changed... it was an adventure of a life time. Doing it again around the US....
The area that comes to mind was Mission Beach in north central Queensland. We parked our Kombi under some palm trees right on the beach. That’s where I learned to eat oysters right off the rocks and had papayas and mangos from the trees...
Great Video, and Great spot. The fish is commonly called a Strong Fish (Dusky Morwong) Very Common. Not greatest tasting and not caught on lines very often as they eat mainly weed.
Hey great vid man but I’ll prob be the only critic on here, in saying that dusky morwong are def not the fish you want to be targeting. Lived in Albany all my life and never once have I heard of anyone eating dusky simply because they taste awful. A lot better fish down here to target bro. The groper you got is a step in the right direction. 👍👍
@@TheOutFit sorry work nightshift so hard to keep up , have done some around Warrnambool area and around Geelong but would love to do more , need some better gear like yours only got basic stuff, saw you guys in Geelong a few months back but couldnt turn around to say Hello keep the eps coming really enjoying them just watched your new one love it
Hey guys That campsite where you caught the fish looks like a place a used to camp 20 years ago. Do you remember if there was a cave walking around the cliffs left from the path? Do you mind sharing the location?
How do you figure out if there are too many sharks to dive? If you find a beach no one really goes to, how would you, or anyone, really know the shark situation?
Only thing I can say as a spear fisherman myself if you don’t know what it is don’t shoot it and your the only like I know the said a dusky taste good aha Good content though mate
Thanks Brent! We use Sony A7iii and Go Pro Hero 8. We'll film a detailled video soon about our gear/filming process! Anything in particular you would like to know? Cheers for watching!
You're the only person I've ever known to shoot a second dusky morwong, most people learn the first time haha. This tracks you were on with the big granite boulders everywhere, was that Bettys Beach area east if Albany?
@@TheOutFit yes I did many years ago, a friend speared one when we were out camping. Groper isn't the greatest fish in the ocean either but I'd eat a groper over a weed eating morwong any day. Each to their own.
Just about Western Blue Gropers - All western blue groper begin life as females and some, but not all, change sex to males later in life. Biologists call this type of change ‘protogynous hermaphroditism’, which is very common for members of the wrasse family. On average, female western blue groper take 15 to 20 years to reach sexual maturity, when they are around 650 mm in length. Sex change in western blue groper occurs at a length of about 820 mm and at an age of between 30 and 35 years. This change in sex is closely associated with a change in the groper’s colour from green to blue. Western blue groper prefer to live in small groups or ‘harems’, consisting of one male, one or two females and several juveniles. The male fish is always the largest one in the group. If the male is removed from the group (say, by fishing, predation or old age), then the group’s dominant female takes the former’s place - by changing sex and colour. Within a couple of hours of the disappearance of the male, the dominant female will start behaving in a masculine manner. A couple of days later, the female’s colouration will change to that of the male and within about 14 days her sex will have changed to male. As a result of this change, the other females will have moved up one position in the social order of the harem, with a vacant position left at the bottom for a new female member.
I was prepared to emigrate to Australia in 1979, we had the consulate come to our home from Chicago and our passports and papers were in order...I even had a guaranteed income and a possible job. I was a civil engineer at the time with a 2 year old daughter and young wife...I was 30...they really wanted us. My wife backed out and asked for a divorce. That was the end of that dream. I don't like being an American, but that was my last chance at Oz
@@TheOutFit Oh, I had a wonderful visit in 1970. Even met Mick Jagger during the filming of Ned Kelly. Spent a total of two months in Darwin, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart...I loved the country. I only wish that I'd had the time to go to SE Australia to visit the beautiful beaches there. Australia was a different place in 1970...King's Cross in Sydney was wild. The Cheetah Room, The Whiskey...it was outrageous partying.

Dusky morwong. There are heaps around cause most people don’t eat them - very dark meat.
Yeah I found out afterwards but actually tasted pretty good! That's why I got another one.
Dusky’s are an underrated eating fish, and common on southern reefs.
