- Honduras has historically held a reputation for being one of the most dangerous countries to travel to in the Americas. However, in recent years, a lot has changed. Is Honduras still the violent, corrupt country it used to be? We decided to see for ourselves.
As part of the Pan-American road trip, which started in Canada, Honduras would be the 6th country for the truck. Initially planning to spend a few weeks on our way to Nicaragua, a change of plans would force us to loop around the country, going from the northern border to the Caribbean coast, the southern border, and all the way to the Pacific.

If you're planning on travelling to Honduras you can definitely make a much more streamlined and optimized trip, for us, it was sort of thrown in our lap and we went with it. Overlanding in general is tough in this country, and camping is almost non-existent. But the coffee is good, the people are kind, and there is ample opportunity for some off-road action and wildlife spotting.
The truck is a 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (KZJ78 w/ a 1KZ TE) for anyone interested. Build: • Preparing for the Pan ...

Came for the thumbnail, stayed for the story. Stay safe guys ❤
I am Honduran and, like my wife, we often feel frustrated that we cannot even separate the waste that we produce since there is no proper handling of it. Thank you for picking up the trash you found on your way through our country! I wish you the best!
I too live in Honduras now, the burning of trash (plastic and all) its everywhere. locals don't seem to realize the consequences of inhaling all that damn plastic.
If more people realize in Honduras that if they clean their streets, cities, oceans, and forests and refrain from a criminal life, they can bring more investments and tourism in their country, improving the lives of many Honduras.
@@jacqueslee2592 You are 100% correct but my people are so shortsighted. I suppose constant hunger, lack of outs contributes greatly to the shortsightedness.
In Gracias Adios region I used to plead with the locals to protect our natural gifts; and like you said so that tourists/investors would take interests like in Costa Rica.
My reward? getting fired at while helping patrollers remove nets from a lagoon.
The people are wonderful there. So warm, friendly and loving. I understand things have changed so much in the last 5 to 10 years.
I’m from Honduras 🇭🇳 and I’ve been living in the US for 18 years and I loved your video ! We still have a long way to go as a country .. but I think we have a lot to offer in terms of beauty .. I hope we get visited more and people get to see our beautiful country
Thank you!
Don't stay too long in the states, we need your help to turn the tide in these countries. Do me a favor? back off on the "Remesas" they are truly ruining these countries.
I'm from Honduras currently living here in the USA and this video made me happy. Thank you guys, the way yall picked up garbage and everything is just so beautiful. Wish we had more people like you guys. Thanks for sharing God Bless this channel you guys you've got a new subscriber.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I was in Honduras and already bought another ticket for the summer. I ADMIRE how you clean the beaches. You are the best!! ❤
A Content Producer from Honduras (now living in the northern US) here, THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for this delightful documentary, Honduras is a beautiful natural jewel ruled by corruption, unfortunately, but we have a lot to offer for this kind of trips, you missed some really sweet spots but definitely showed a lot more than regular travelers/nomads/content producers do. Keep it up guys! B)
Thanks a lot man! Yeah we did miss a lot, we were planning on sort of just transiting through, and are running a bit low on cash so definitely missed some highlights. But I'm glad you enjoyed it nonetheless!
Cleaning up trash! Earned yourself a new subscriber. Thank you for fighting this ever growing problem, one bag at a time!!
Thanks a lot man!
I was in Honduras a couple of days ago. My best part was up top of the hills viewing the roads. You are right about the garbage disposal everywhere, I'm enjoying your journey stay safe!
Thank you!
Didn't expect to watch this all in one take but as my Mom is from Honduras and migrated to the US, I really respect your documentary and I truly just felt sad for what has come of it. Also, so humbled by all the things we take for granted in the US. Y'all are awesome for putting this together, your clean up, and sharing your love and ambition to explore with us on youtube. Salud!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it
I too appreciate you guys sharing the example of keeping our country clean. I too devote time to literally cleaning my block; once a week I grab a bag and clean my block. Two years I been cleaning, I've yet to have a neighbor join me.
Perhaps this will be the year I'm joined on this cleaning project.
You guys are very brave. Finding adventures in countries that are not safe. I'm from Mexico and i my self would not do that in my own country. Hats off to you both. May God protect you guys always.
They are naive.
@@richcast688exactly smh
Yea, I suggest you take a little better care, specially camping about. I caught site of a Machete in your vehicle, sadly vermiscious knids pack heat.
I too drive all over Honduras and Nicaragua as I straddle the two countries, but never sleep in my car.
Big word of advice to anyone who stumbles on this transmission,
ALWAYS PARK YOUR CAR LIKE BANK ROBBERS USED TO, PLEASE!
Always have your vehicle ready for a quick get out of Dodge.
I get the feeling that Honduras is not a country that you could feel relaxed travelling through. Seems like personal safety is always an issue. Glad someone like you had the courage to show us around.
Yeah, it's a tough one! It's not bad during the day, the people really are kind, just not a very camping friendly country...
You THINK??🤡
I wouldn't do it
Night time is dicey. If you do, I would suggest reviewing GPS routes in major cities like SPS and Teguz, because the GPS may send you through a really bad neighborhood. Outside of cities, livestock and other vehicles are the biggest issue.
low survival instinct...you're literally bait out there with valuables, vehicle and a beautiful woman.
That being said, glad y'all made it there and back okay, and thank you for sharing the adventure
Last April had a chance to travel Honduras to visit my wife's family. My wife is from Honduras. A lot has changed over the years. Thank you for the video.
No problem, thanks for watching! Hondurans are great people
What a fantastic video 👏🏻 there are great people and places in Honduras, the country has tons of potential. You got a new follower, can’t wait for more videos from your TH-cam channel. Cheers 🍻
Absolutely amazing videoing and editing, so much better than any travel documentary on tv, it's pure, truthful, and you show the areas untraveled by tourists.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for bringing along us viewers on your adventure. I appreciate seeing the daily challenges of navigating, decision making and stress of adventure travel. It provides an authentic experience which is obviously different from vacation travel. I look forward to watching your other videos.
Thank u for this amazing video Honduras is a amazing Country to explore all the nature that have. You really miss some amazing places Hope u come back and explore more the occidental mountains. I really love the passion you put in exploring Honduras ❤

Wow, I was totally sucked into this video, when it was over I was surprised I had already watched the whole thing. Thank you for sharing your adventure! I love seeing first-hand experiences in countries that are deemed dangerous to travel to, for better or for worse; I have always found it fascinating to learn more aside from the mostly negative aspects that are heard in the U.S.. I’m Honduran and live in Switzerland since 2021. It breaks my heart to know not much has changed but instead everything has gotten worse. Thank you for sharing, it’s the only way for me to look back.
I'm only just came across your channel but yall were in Honduras at the same time as i was, it was my first time back in a bit more then 10 years, with all honesty yall missed a lot of good places to visit, thanks for trying to keep my country clean, its definitely a struggle between bad habits and the government, the new government is trying to fish many of the problem with the roads and other problems you encounter but due to lack of budget and man power, its definitely something that will continue to be present for a while, thanks for doing my Country a favor!
I appreciate you making this video, I was born in Honduras in 2003 in San Juan Pueblo and migrated to the United States in 2012 and I haven't been able to go back since But this video brought me back so many memories and I miss it a lot. I can't wait to go back to my country one day and help the community I was born in
I hope your return path gets cleared soon my brother; I drove by San Juan Pueblo two days ago. Wonderful people in the area, wonderful people in most of our countries. Just that a few scoundrels ruin it for the masses.
I too landed in America when I was 9, stayed 50 years! today I'm truly in paradise loving every moment.
America has all to offer good and bad, stay on the good tracks, take full advantage of opportunities and before you know it; you'll start visiting home and someday decide to do like me.
PEACE,
Turn your exposure up! I’d love to see more of those trails! Just found you guys. Love seeing your crazy adventures. You’re brave. My wife would never do that sort of travel with me. I’ll just live vicariously thru you. Jealous.

Fantastic video!
Thank you very much!
Very cool trip & honestly very brave to pull it off. One thing i will say that is incorrect, not all water in Central America is not drinkable; Costa Rica's water supply is very drinkable in most parts of the country.
Thank you so much for coming to our country, I hope you can back again, very welcome. Best wishes
Thank you!
thank you for posting
Love the garbage clean up, how very Canadian of you. Always bring out more than you took in ❤
Thanks man!
What a beautiful video! Lowering the music volume along with not playing it while talking would take it to the next level. Subscribed!
Gotcha, thank you!
I traveled through Honduras and Guatemala about 20 years ago. All but one place was safe. The people were nice and it was beautiful. The one place we were unsafe a lady rushed out, told us to get inside her business and wait for the next bus. She told us Americans weren't welcomed there and we would be attacked. She took care of us and got us on the next bus.
Enjoy your trip and be safe.
I just got back from Guatemala 🇬🇹 city, like all cities it has its good zones & bad, but it can definitely be dangerous if you get lost and don’t know where you are.
My advice is to stay away from the city and go to touristy places like Antigua or Tikal & don’t got out at night
First time seeing your videos, the title drew me in, I love Honduras🇭🇳. I stayed there up in the mountains near San Antonio de Cortes. I can't imagine not having them as a guide/protection. They kept their head on a swivel when they took us to town. People did get killed near where we were.
Sadly the trash is out of control, I tried to get the kids to stop throwing their trash on the ground😢. You see men, women and children do things like fill potholes in the road,of which there are many, (probably what caused your vehicle issues), hoping that you'll toss them a dollar or two. The country and people are beautiful, I think you captured some of that, and also your many skills are impressive, great content, life doesn't always go smoothly and you portrayed more than just the Instagram worthy shots.
Thank you for the kind words! It is a great country in many aspects
Guys, I love the outdoors and have been part of it since my childhood in Scouts. We were taught, what you bring in you take out. No garbage. Don't blame politicians. Garbage is created and managed by each one of us and not respecting nature is on the person. And like you, I find myself picking up garbage on my daily walks by people who just don't care. Anyway, nice vid. Glad you both safe.
They were blaming the politicians because you could take the garbage out with you, but there was nowhere to take it after that, no effective disposal infrastructure, unregulated garbage transport, no public dump points, etc.
I'm from Honduras but live in Brandon, MB. First time watching your videos and I happened to notice your MB licence plates. I was visiting in Honduras at the same time you were there. I am from La Ceiba and I would have shown you really nice spots where you could have stayed and camped. Happy trails!!!
Great vlogs.
You guys are amazing! Also very brave!!
Thank you!
Hope most people subscribe to your channel since you get a lot of views, I appreciate the great quality of your videos and the scenery is fantastic, good luck with the rest of your trip...
Thank you! The channel has grown faster in 10 days than in the last year so things are good!
thanks for visiting our country ♥
This was Amazing video, very profecional done, my country is beautiful, I live in California and is very dengereous here as well and more stressful than than my country. I wish I could go back soon and enjoy like you guys did, I kept watching this video till late at night so beautiful!!! Thank you so much GOD BLESS YOU! when you go camping here in the USA you ran the risk of being attack by a bear or a puma too😃
Awesome video! Informative and great shots. One suggestion would be to mix your voiceover a little louder against some of the music. Made it hard to hear sometimes. Keep it up!
Thank you! I'll keep that in mind, I keep a 20db difference between the music and voiceover, I'll try increasing it and see if that adds clarity. There's also full English subtitles if anyone else has issues hearing/understanding the audio
Dope video im hondureno and its cool to see people visiting all parts of it. Honduras is really a beautiful place that doesn’t get enough credit.
Im surprised you guys dont have more followers.
Thanks for visit Honduras, I hope you can come back.
Great, honest information that can be used from your adventure, thanks.
Central America is beautiful, most people are honest and peaceful.
After saying that, most crimes are committed by people who lived in extreme poverty and lots of time with many children to be raised.
If you want to adventure into any Central American country, please, don’t go alone. Find a local guide, there are many available and for an affordable fee you will enjoy your experience without the hesitation of going or not going somewhere there.
The guide will protect you and himself.
I have a comment about the background music, it’s a bit too loud and hard to understand what you say. Thanks again.👍
Dude is very cool what you guys did adventures are so cool 👍😎
Thanks for making this nice video about my country, i could only wish it was a more ideal place for a better experience for you guys, the government has really put everything in shambles, poverty, drug smuggling, gang violence, lack of education, etc. I left the country over 20 years ago and whenever i visit all I feel is a profound sadness because it seems things just keep moving backwards over there, growing up there as a child I have nothing but my best memories, Honduras was never a rich country but at least it was safe and most importantly we were happy. Greedy politicians in power would do anything for that coke money. I can only hope for things to improve. btw you guys have big balls for camping out there in the wild!
I have been to the most dangerous areas of san pedro sula but and i live in Honduras but I dont think I'd camp in the places they went to lol.
"The government has really put things in shambles"
Everyone seems to play their part in the lack of progress, corrupt actions are partaken in by the 5 year old and up. nearly everyone side steps taxes at every opportunity. Others mismanage/waste national resources, in the end WE ALL LOSE.
The most selfless politician I've ever witnessed in life has just been retired; the man changed the trajectory of El Salvador, let's hope the new presidenta continues with his forward thinking approach.
The great Bukele shared concepts with his sister countries, I'm still waiting to see results. Don't stay away too long, the country is improving on many levels.
Very nice takes, I enjoy a lot see this video, I hope Honduras can become a safe place to visite someday because is a very beateful contry.
I'm from La Ceiba living in the states and this is a very nice video. I also pick up trash where I go when I visit Honduras a lot of people litter and I wish it were different. I like to drive in my country the scenery is beautiful.
Cool trip indeed. Has a touch of real adventure where it can end deadly. Glad it turned out well for you guys :-)
Hello My name is John. I've lived in Honduras for over 11 years now . presently in the mountains. I liked your video. I'm sorry that no one told you that the beach areas of La Ceiba are not the best places in Honduras. the beach town of Tela is much smaller but much better. It is typical for the locals to say that their area is extremely dangerous and they fear for foreigners safety. I've traveled into the most dangerous areas of Honduras to do Humanitarian work and I never had trouble but precaution is necessary. Camping is almost unheard of in Honduras so unfortunately, there aren't many places to stay. I really liked your vehicle. I wish I had that for my work in the mountains . that is one heavy duty vehicle.
Thanks John, we stopped in Tela for a moment as well, but with the holidays it was pretty busy, so we tried La Ceiba next. Thanks for your work! And yes Land Cruisers are great trucks.
@@goaloneTV oh good. Tell is much nicer and safer. Good luck on the rest of your travels and I'm liking forward to more great adventures
Honduras looks brutal. I respect your courage to deal with all the countries' challenges. I hope you had some relaxation time. Your drone even had a fatal crash. Bummer.
"Honduras looks brutal"
It's an extremely beautiful land, I drive it regularly for fun (the coastal region that is, Colon, Gracias a Dios, Lloro, Atlantida, Cortez but only her coastal areas).
Great views.
Very cool trip, looks very inviting
This video was inspiring! Greetings from South Africa - you should bring your Land Cruiser here one day, it's a popular car given the beautiful scenery.
If everything works out the way we want to, Africa will come after South America hopefully!
Amazing I lived in Honduras for a few years, it has a lot of potential but corruption and lack of investment doesn't let it grow to the likes of Costa Rica and Panama... but overall beautiful Beaches and Rainforest...
Much of that corruption was also caused by US. US has a military base there and continues to support the narco government.
Hello. I just started following you, and I'm enjoying it. Nice adventure. Congratulations. I will now begin to see from the beginning. All the best to you. . A hug from Portugal.
Thank you sir!
I'm from Honduras but I live in Europe for 18 years now. I recently visited Honduras again and I was shocked how destroyed the whole country was. It never got better at all, it only got worse. And a lot! I'm never going back to my home country again😢
Yeah I'm originally from Eastern Europe, and when I went back to visit my grandparents it was also a true culture shock how the country had deteriorated! Poverty and high-level political corruption really lets infrastructure deteriorate.
@@goaloneTV let's be clear - it's hardly possible to have so many corrupt politicians and officials in a country with honest people.

This is awesome. Your video came across my feed. I love old yota’s and overland content. But what are you doing about protection down there?
Y'all are brave. Even I, who speaks fluent Spanish, wouldn't dare to go down there and camp at random spots lol
It's important to approach traveling to other countries with thorough research and understanding. Camping in someone's neighborhood without permission in a place like Honduras can be risky, as some towns are controlled by cartels and gangs, and locals often have to pay them taxes. The way you explored and camped with your girlfriend was certainly daring, considering the potential dangers involved. In such situations, the unpredictable can happen, and it might be challenging for anyone to find out. As someone who was born there, even my own family members would hesitate to undertake what you've done. These circumstances also raise questions about privilege and the different experiences people encounter while traveling.
You bring up a very valid point actually. In our experience, and from everyone who's doing a similar trip, it does seem foreigners do have the privilege of being somewhat protected (not to say it's completely safe).
We also have the privilege of ignorance. People who have been through the violence would think twice themselves
You must be black
@@goaloneTV "It does seem foreigners do have the privilege of being somewhat protected"
Indeed, my friend! I as a Black man keep my galivanting around Honduras and Nicaragua to the coastal regions. Had it been I who the ranger approached; the end result would most likely been a little more complicated for me.
"A man has to know his limitations" remarked Clint Eastwood,
I monitor mine and specially my brethren around my Central of America.
I would love to travel like this . One day . Safe travels amigos.
You'll get the chance, and thanks so much for the contribution!

@@goaloneTV how do you record them?
@@ravenoverlanding I use a Yeti mic, one of the standard black ones I'm not sure the model, picked it up in a mall in Guatemala. Then I just use the voice recorder that comes with windows. Toughest part is usually different parts of the voice overs are recorded in different hotels and such as we move and there's echo and all sorts of stuff. So I manually go through the clips and adjust the audio. Davinci also has a bunch of great effects like multi band compressor and de essor and whatnot. Just search how to make your voice overs sound better on yt and there's lots of good material
