And just imagine Bluff Knoll in winter covered in snow !!!!!!! And have you climbed Castle Rock with its huge engineered walkways at the top ? So good to trust your feelings , usually are right thing to do . Thank you for the fabulous coastal vision around Albany .even though we have seen it several times , its always great to see it though someone else’s eyes .
I climbed Bluff knoll ...as part of an Ag-students week-long bus-tour in January 1977 ...we got up in the dark & started the climb very early ...piece of cake hike for fit 20year-olds! Still memorable!
Oh guys, well done in getting through a less than ideal time on the road. Completely agree with the grandparents, if something feels off then make a move. You still got some epic views in and well done on the hike! Miss ya's!
I am well behind the time line in my comments but only discovered your channel recently and have been binge watching ever since. You guys are refreshing and I really enjoy your content. Smart move moving on when things didn’t feel right. We have only had it happen twice in all our travels around Australia. Once we did not move on and while nothing happened we had a very restless night. The next time we didn’t hesitate to move on. Will always be the best option to follow your gut.
Welcome aboard Gavin! We really appreciate the kind words. I agree, it’s not worth the stress sticking around and always best to trust your instinct 👍🏼
As experienced travelers, I’m happy to see you took the major survival item. ZOOPER DOOPERS😂😂😂. I would have packed them first. Awesome vid as always, guys.
Hi Derek and sue, have been watching your journey from the first to this one !!! Don’t give up , report them get it done , l get a buzz sitting Sunday Arvo it the chair enjoy your journey keep it up cheers
Good hike guys and on a really hot day - well done. Always go by your gut feeling better to be safe and sleep well. As for the DCS battery - they are crap - so many people with failures.. put something else in your canopy !
You guys should have done the skywalk in the Porongurup NPk, shorter walk 2 -2.5 hr but still stretches the old calves. That climb takes you through a small pocket of Karri country. My guess is a visit to Rotto or ballooning in the Avon Valley.
Hey great video as usual I've got a 79 series the hand brake was c##p so I invested in a Marks adapters transmission hand brake it's fantastic no more putting the front Left wheel into a gutter on a hill or chock it when the vans on. Cheers keep the videos coming
Your finishing statement, 'I love this type of camping', your Glamping! let's get that straight! You folks have a good and positive vibe and are easy to watch and informative and enjoyable, thank you. I know you missed a whole lot of amazing geology/ecology/scenery NOT going around the coast through Denmark and Walpole, maybe next time. I too have climbed the Bluff, its totally worth the effort. Thanks, Folks, great video.
Maybe a warning needs to be issued that if you are not very fit and young never go hiking in the outback in 35c heat unless you are very well prepared. Heat stroke is no joke. People do come to grief more often than people think or hear about. Carry loads of water and some electrolyte tablets with that. Early mornings are probably the best time. Well done you two. Beautiful country. We are lucky to have this.
Totally agree. So many people have been rescued or even died on that hike for various reasons but being unprepared in hot conditions is one of them. Having climbed it in heat, snow, for sunrise and normally, I’ve seen so many unprepared people and it’s scary.
We climbed Bluff Knoll on our honeymoon 23 year ago in September. I couldn't go right to the edge when we reached the summit because I'm so scared of heights. But the climb itself was epic. That was actually the last time I was there!
On my Jeep Grand Cherokee, when ever I am travellig without towing- when i reverse into a driveway and but foot brakes on quickly it adjusts up the hand brake adjustments automatically by a bit. Saves going through what you went through at 17:00.
Great vid guys, really love seeing parts of my own neck of the woods. Regards the dude parked and watching you guys, always, always follow your gut instinct. There are just too many weirdoes out there and for the sake of a pack up and move, you could have saved your lives, you never know. You have a new subscriber.
I climbed Bluff Knoll at age 52 and not particularly fit but managed really well. It was really hot and clear sunny skies on the way up, but it turned icy cold and blowing a gale when we reached the summit, worse of all the summit was completely shrouded in fog so we didn’t have as great a view as you two did. But that’s the nature of the Bluff! 😂
Did you take note of rego, car make and model and dropped of the details to the Albany police station, , you might not be the only ones to encounter this guy and there is a lot of lone woman travellers doing the same thing you are doing. If you felt uneasy, trust your gut.
Funny, I passed it last year and I never felt the urge to climb it 😁 But now ! Always follow your gut instinct. We have travelled for the last two and a bit years and have only had two occasions where we felt compelled to move on and in both cases we have no regrets. It was definitely the right thing to do. You always feel a bit off after such an occasion but that’s pretty normal, it’s kind of like you feel a touch violated. Anyway guys, great content, we’re picking up our Zone in two weeks and we’ll be back at it. See you out there 👍
Hey Wayde! Stretch the legs out mate, Its a good hike! Would be epic on a low wind day with good visibility. Completely agree, kind of felt silly in the moment but 100% back our decision now. Awesome to hear, some epic times ahead for you guys 🙌 Safe travels B&H
How reminiscent of our visit to the Stirling ranges. We had 47°C, bushfires. Local petrol station was out of cold water, there were millions of flies and a dry lightning storm so we had to come out of the swimming pool. Hell on earth. 😢DON’T GO WHEN ITS HOT.
Some people feel safer the closer they park to others especially when it's women travelling alone but be very cautious as there is a lot of sick people out there.
Actually pretty funny that your week in Albany was cold and overcast. I have family there and we always joke that its not Albany if its not raining. Also, I haven't been for a while but Parry Beach Campsite used to be an absolute banger, if you get a chance to have a look.
Haha, we got the full experience then 😅 Ahh, only just saw something on instagram about that camp! Did not know about it, can you get a caravan in there?
All 4X4,with drum brake hand brakes, all have the same problem dust and small rocks works its way in and destroys the shoes thats why i put discs brakes on the van great blog
Hello and thank you for another fabulous episode, the mountain hike with music choice was epic, have you thought about a camel back pack for extra water storage when hiking in heat 🥵. So pleased you listened to intuition on old mate and departed that site, isn’t Aussie amazing along with Zone Rv. Are you a mechanic Brad? You know the ins and outs of auto.. take care, happy travels.
Thanks for the kind words and tuning in! Nah our water bottles have done the trick so far. Usually we both have backpacks, one for cameras and one for lunch/water 😊
my brother took his two daughters 8 and 10 (that's their ages, not their names, he's old school) up there last year, took them ages (3 hours one way) and one of them threatened to jump off if she was 'made to go any further' 🤣🤣but they made it in the end and the girls were gobsmacked at the views.
Understandable! Would also have left when a guy is watching me during the evening… Great tip to service the handbrake! How many Nm do you use to tighten the wheel-nuts?
Hey guys - first time watching you both and have to say I enjoyed this episode a lot. We did a lap in a VW Campervan a couple of years ago and went to all the spots you did in this video. We are now looking at a bigger van and love the Zone RV. Any comments or advice in regards to the Zone? Cheers.
Thanks for tuning in! That sounds awesome! No complaints here, although we do have a relationship with Zone our experience as buyers has been great from our customer journey prior to owning the van then to handover and warranty and technical service. The systems they have in place are great and only improving 👍🏼
Where you parked for the night when Betty's was full goes down to a little island that's absolutely gorgeous - if anyone else is going past at any point ☺️
I feel like as a kid, I seen too much red dirt/gravel and just the big dry expanses of this country around WA. The Kimberly starts to become something different and interesting. But give me the coast any day.
@our.australia.trip. Thank you. Sorry for being nosey but everytime we hear it my partner and i always ask eachother i wonder why patsy?? Lol. We were coming up with some wild reasons why..lol now we know 🤣
As the whaling museum staff Ike to point out, they didn’t stop whaling because of it being cruel or about public opinion on it, it was due to economic reasons. Otherwise they would have continued doing it.
I would say probably 10x more difficult in the heat we did it. Bluff knoll is 4x as much elevation gain and 3x the length of Frenchman’s. This took us 3hrs to summit, Frenchman’s we got up in 20min in thongs 🤣
Hi Brad & Hayley, enjoyed your Vlog as always, thanks 😊 A question (or two) from fellow Zoners, I hope you don’t mind. You have the latest Peregrine with no gas inside. How do you find your power levels on overcast days (not solid rain, but overcast) and using the inverter for cooking? Looks like you have the 1060 Watts on the roof? on average is that getting you back to full power each day when its a little overcast? I imagine if you get down to 50% it would be difficult getting back to 100% or is your system handling that well. Cheers and thanks heaps 😃
Thanks for tuning in guys. We do really quite well, and touch on power in our next video - with the manager 100 on the horizon we did test an upgrade for the zone manager 30 systems with really positive results you can read and see it here: service.zonerv.com.au/knowledge/gain-up-to-an-extra-50-amps-in-your-sojourn-or-peregrine-gen-2-caravan. We are not careful at all with power and can sustain 3-4 overcast days before really getting low. In our 6 mths of ownership i can say we haven't really experienced any more overcast days than that. Hope that helps 😊
We always enjoy your episodes, thanks for all the effort you put into them. We just have to ask a question that's been on our minds for ages. What's with the name Patsy? It seems to be a nickname, so what's the story?
We think you are heading to Perth to pick up a puppy. Love watching your channel. We are kiwis heading to Australia in December 2024 to begin a two year lap of Australia. We collect our caravan and tow vehicle in Melbourne.😁🌺

I camped at a free camp outside sterling ranges last year Woke up at 2am hearing an engine noise. Poked head out of van and saw a giant 6'8" dude with a chihuahua in his arms staring at me. I grabbed my can of pepper spray ready to blast him, but he said sorry mate, checking my tyres, wasn't anywhere else big enough to pull in..thats when i realised he was driving a road train and i was in the only pull in bay long enough to accomodate a three trailer truck.

34 degrees celsius is NOT extreme heat, especially in WA this time of year. 38 degrees on our wedding day 26 March 1983. Born in WA 1958, lived in Perth since 1961. It's no where near as hot these days as it was during my childhood...
@our.australia.trip. BOM has a narrative to push. Yes, it feels hot, especially if you're doing outdoor activities in unshaded areas. That doesn't mean the heat is extreme.

34 degrees celsius is NOT extreme heat, especially in WA this time of year. 38 degrees on our wedding day 26 March 1983. Born in WA 1958, lived in Perth since 1961. It's no where near as hot these days as it was during my childhood...
it was extreme heat according to BOM
@our.australia.trip. BOM has a narrative to push. Yes, it feels hot, especially if you're doing outdoor activities in unshaded areas. That doesn't mean the heat is extreme.
i think there was a solar flare this day thats why it was more extreme
@@our.australia.trip. Agreed, 34 degrees celsius is hot.
Wow dodgy hand brake in a 79 😂😂😂😂

you have to go with your gut that guy wasn't there for wholesome reasons there's bad people out there doesn't take a lot for them to be triggered
100%
If you're in Albany you should really visit the wind-farm. Standing under a giant wind-turbine with the blades whizzing over you is pretty awesome.
My home turf.
Respect
Where are the gumtree

If wind shifted you would have been sucking in smoke the whole way back not just the fire to worry about
Yes thankfully we had reception up there so was able to check conditions while on our way up 👍🏼

If you want to rid yourself of the negative energy, give a thought to the hero’s and heroines fighting that fire in those conditions ….🤔
In bed warming up.
Nightmare, another caravan on the road to get past.
The true nightmare is another entitled road user like yourself
