What is the difference between brushless and brushed?
"A brushless motor adjusts its speed, torque, and power supply to match the task at hand. It'll sense if you're driving screws into a light material like drywall or dense material like mahogany, and use only enough power to accomplish the job."
THE KEY TO UNDERSTAND IS BETWEEN BRUSHLESS AND BRUSHED POWER TOOLS
Which can translate for longer-lasting life and less maintenance. A smarter tool and can be faster and stronger when drilling on mahogany than a brushed DCF809.

Brushless drills adjust speed so the motor doesnt burn out as fast and the battery lasts longer. Theyre both great but this isnt a very good comparison.

The new atomic series from what I understand is supposed to be smaller but comparable power. I did a quick online search comparing my local stores and looks like I can get the 809 for about the same price as the 885 by itself not a combo kit. If they are gonna market it as a smaller but comparable package imo the price should reflect that. After seeing a few atomic reviews I really don't see the benefit with this new line over the other models. Perhaps the smaller head helps maneuver in tighter spaces but 3/4" really ain't much.

.75 inches makes a difference in tight corners, between studs, and around pipes.
If your looking for sheer power, but don't care about size, then the atomic line is not for you. If you are going to be working in tight spots for extended periods of time, or just want the assurance of having a more compact driver, then the dcf809 will work great for you.
I've had mine for a few years now, and have NEVER come across a screw or bolt that I couldn't drive or loosen with it.

Hammer and Home. Your question is If the DeWalt DCF809 Atomic is Worth it??? I would say in my opinion is YES! It is worth it. In the comparison between dcf885 brush and dcf809 brushless. The 2 impact driver have exactly the same specs when it comes to the RPM and IPM exactly the same 2800rpm and 3200ipm but with only the difference of Torque the 885 only have 1400in/lbs while the 809 Atomic have 300in/lbs MORE. so the way see this two technically dcf809 atomic is a brushless version of 885. And I have 2 dcf885 and they're both serves me well in the jobsite and at home especially when I'm building decks and I keep on changing their carbon brush more often but with the Atomic 809 I don't have to. So yeah 809 is a brushless version of 885 I would say while the new dcf850 Atomic is a midget, small size or Downsized version of dcf888 and 887. In my opinion dcf809 Atomic is Worth buying for especially for those people who doesn't like changing carbon brushes or maintaining their tools so much. I'm seeing now on Amazon, some Lowe's and Home Depot stores they're start selling dcf809 brushless impact driver kit only for $99.00 VERSUS the old Dcf885 @ $99.00 as well. Might as well go for the brushless Instead.

Hi mate, picked up a DCD709 + DCF809 with 3 2Ah batteries for £199 (GBP). Is this worth it?
OR should I return it and buy a DCD796 + DCF887? Mainly for home use & for other people. Should be around the same price but will have to be refurbished or used drills.

RPM on the 885 is 2,700 vs 2,800 on the 809. Torque on the 885 is 117lbs vs 142lbs on the 809. In paper the 809 should be better.

Here's more information about the differences between Dewalt Tools:
DeWalt Tools: There are pretty much 3 "levels" with DeWalt tools...
GOOD: 20v Max (brushed motor, less efficient, brushes can wear out although I've had zero issues with mine)
BETTER: 20v Max Brushless (more efficient, no brushes to wear out)
BEST: 20v Max XR (New updated even more efficient version of the brushless motor for more runtime. XR could have just as easily been labeled as 2.0).

I bought a set but returned it the next day for the Milwaukee fuel m12 set. An extra $75 bucks though. Changed it and paid the extra because of bad reviews. Gonna check out the video, do you think they’re worth it?

    • @hammerandhome
      @hammerandhome  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      L. M they are definitely NOT worth it if your a professional. That said if your a handy man or DIY guy, then they are all right. And will get the job done. I like the drill a lot more than the impact drill.

For almost any applications that you want to do it yourself, trust me you want at least a 5 or 6 amp hour battery, and if you get lucky and find one at the pawn shop with a fast charger and a brushless drill like i did then you're banking

  • @wjhedgepeth71

Honestly the Atomic tools are under powered. Comparing it to the 885 isn't even fair. I have a bunch of the 885's and the most I have to do is replace the brushes and the spring in the bit holder every few years. They just keep going.
