The regulator and the filter are located inside the tank in the late 2005-2009 models...with the 4.2l engines...they changed it up mid 2005 so anything produced after July of 2005 have the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel filters inside the tank
Great video! As a poor old woman I appreciate not having to take this to a shop to be fixed. You did an excellent job of explaining in layman’s terms and making sure the camera was where it needed to be. I do wish you’d shown putting the bolts back in since this always where I run into trouble getting it back together I’m not one to hand out praise lightly but over all great job thank you!
For getting hard to access bolts back in, try putting the bolt in the socket and wrapping a piece of electrical tape tightly around the top of the socket to tape the bolt in. You can screw the bolt halfway into place, and then pull the socket off and the tape will come with it since the tape is loose around the head of the bolt but tight and sticky around the socket. Just make sure the socket comes out with the wrench.
Great video. I just swapped mine out and I apparently had a lot more pressure than you did on my gas line- went everywhere. But with a little pliers effort to pull it out and adding washer so I didn’t have to grind down the bolt. I don’t have a grinder because I’m not a mechanic. But I appreciate not having to take it to the shop. I’ve been driving around for a month with this gas smell and it scared me every day. Happy to have it fixed.😊
Had same problem. I told my buddy no more power tool use until the fumes escape. Because we had gas squirt out from the part. (I thought I could do leak test before bolting it in place)
Just did mine on my '04. It was a b1tch because there was some corrosion. It was probably the original, and I have about 205k miles. The bolt on mine was also touching the fuel line when I reinstalled it and I thought maybe I bent the bracket while working the regulator out of it's hole. I did get it squared away. Keep in mind that after 2005 (I think) they changed this design and put the regulator in the gas tank as part of the sending unit/pump.
Late 2005 models as well...and it doesn’t say this at the part store or online when ordering...u have to look and see if the regulator is on the engine side of the line...if it isn’t then it’s a late model 2005 and u have to order the parts for the 2006
Unless you know 100% for sure that’s the exact place they have them on the models you specify, then don’t say it. 2005’s don’t. Edit your description bud so people don’t go crazy trying to find it on there 2005 not knowing it’s actually on the pump.
I pulled the 2 bolts out and the whole bracket that you pulled up, was not loose to be able to get the regulator off. It felt just as snug as it was with the bolts. Did I do something wrong?
Another question 04 4.2liter has a vaccum cap attached to manifold noticed after i bought my 04 Chevy Trail Blazer has vaccum nipple but not capped they sayits manufacturer is there a vaccum hose that goes from vaccum nipple to ??? Or is the vaccum nipple made to be capped off

I have a 2002 trailblazer and I'm having trouble starting I have to turn the key like 3 times to like Prime it and then it would start the you think it's my pressure regulator
My 08' doesn't have one in that location , I don't smell fuel, but it stays for a few seconds then dies, fuel pump is fairly new, and I can hear it turn on, cam shaft sensor ohms at 8.5, hoses all seem fine, I'm stumped, it can when I parked it, a week later, and nothing.
I don't know if it was doing that because of it misfiring on cylinder 3 before I changed the coil or if it is a problem with the regulator or if it is just something normal when it's cold. I can't find anything on Google. My Trailblazer is a 02 LTZ

Yeah I guess that is a common issue amongst us Blazers LOL. This was my fifth coil pack that I had to change I'm going to go ahead and change the six 1 in the morning
Mr. MTV I’m no mechanic, honestly have no idea. From what I have seen when it smells like gas under the hood/in the car this is usually the issue. Only problem is the 2002 fuel regulator part online looks a little different than the one he installed. I’ll have to look tomorrow and hopefully will be able to replace it and get running.

The engine light turns on, and when accelerating yes it will run poorly, I tested it with a fuel pressure test and when started the pressure is 30, an when ignition is on not running the pressure is at 10 or less
Pressure drop. you may have a bad regulator or sticky injector. Check your grounds first. Also check a manual I believe 55psi is specs. You may have a bad fuel pump or restricted fuel filter.

I have tried Googling to figure out if it's normal or not I was just wondering if you could tell me if it is normal to have gas sitting inside the air box. I had to change a couple of my coil packs and when doing it I took off the air box and gas poured out. Gas was coming out of the hose that comes out of the regulator.
I know this is 2 years later, but in case it helps anyone else? Yes, there are other videos on TH-cam of people changing this regulator and finding fuel in the air box. One guy showed how he had to take his airbox off and dump it upside-down to get the extra fuel out of it. When the fuel pressure regulator goes bad, this is one thing that can happen. It lets fuel go past it so it gets sucked into the air intake.
So I've got about 4k into this damn thing and , still haven't gotten it to start ,current buddy/mechanic says the previous mechanic hooked the fuel lines up backwards, so is this even possible? And 05 trailblazer is 2 electrical wiring harnesses and 08 envoy is 3 ...but if there is any advice anyone can give me at all ,please lmk
im guessing you used the intake manifold , injectors and fuel rails from your current vehicle?. Many times you can use the long block and swap out the intake and exhaust. not sure in this case? but my understanding is you would of needed to for all the electrical to continue to work. as far as fuel connections one is larger then the other so i doubt you could connect them wrong.
The 2002-2006 engines can be swapped with each other. In 2007 there was a different ignition pickup and electrical hookups. 2007-2009 engine can only be swapped with each other. You can't put a 2002-2006 4.2 in a 2007-2009 year models and same goes for 2002-2006 you can't put a 4.2 from 2007-2009 models.

Not totally accurate like so many other videos. You can only get to that lower t-30 bolt if you happen to have the extra long t-30 socket like this gentleman uses. Otherwise you will have to take something apart. Maybe a swivel adapter with a very shallow socket, a wobble extension. I’m still trying to figure out the best approach, which will vary depending on your tools.

I'm no expert, but you could check the throttle body (and air filter before that of course). Mom has the same year TB and it's has some odd acceleration issues. Along w possible bad oil pressure sensor. Which reports the error on the dash for that.

Sounds like a fuel pump, or plugged fuel filter

I would check the pressure that the pump is producing and i would also check the fuel injectors
The regulater in the pump quit working on mine, had to put another one on it, Thank God the other one was with in the warrenty.

same issue, misfire on spark plug 3 and its been super cold here. i am going to try and replace the regulator tomorrow

The 2005 won't swap with a 2008. The ignition pick up is different, 2007-2009 4.2 can be swapped for each other.

Sounds like you have a bad seal. You may of damaged it or it was bad to start with.

Nope, Just a fuel smell. When you smell fuel that means you have a leak some where. I traced the leak to the fuel regulator.

There should be no gas whatsoever in the air intake plenum box.

you either have a injector issue or a bad 02 sensor. does it drive poorly?

Is the regulater same as sensor?
NO, A regulator does exactly what it says it regulates the fuel pressure. A sensor is usually used on electrical products to sense current.

Sounds like a possible fuel filter almost clogged up.
