With "Nephilim Grove," Chicago's Novembers Doom celebrate their 30th anniversary in style, building upon the grandiose vision founder Paul Kuhr has developed throughout the years. As an entity existing in his singular musical universe of doom, death and progressive metal, the band by now dodges all endeavors of categorization.
Kuhr expands on 2017's "Hamartia" in the most daring yet root-conscious way, offering "new colors, new sounds, the same bad-assery. We never set out with a vision other than to just write what makes sense and feels right. It always shows our mood at a given point in time while while I am striving for lyrical and emotional consistency."
From the rolling thunder that is 'Petrichor' across the goth-tinged title track and 'Black Light,' which marries thrashing outbursts with melodic finesse, to the dramatic finale 'The Obelus,' the record marks nothing less than a stately upgrade of genre.
The tracks were mixed and mastered at Unisound by Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, Dissection, Opeth), who plainly declares, "I know I say this all the time, but it is their best so far" - a statement that rings true with regards to the songwriting prowess on display, something only true veterans such as these achieve. Crowned by empathic ruminations on the human condition's underbelly, Novembers Doom's eleventh studio album exudes timelessness right away.
"Nephilim Grove" is available as as Digipak CD, 2CD artbook with two bonus tracks, 2LP (400 black, 200 red) and box set.

Jacob Antony Prophecy is a German label, doesn't have a big name really. But they have some great names! They also just had their most recent festival in a cave in Germany, as per usual lol

The music is just amazing. You cant put a finger on what makes it come together because you keep finding new nuances and you fall in love all over again. Jesus even the breakaways breaks and tempos and fkkkkkk. Well done. Also top notch lyrics and rhythm seriously felt like it is a cared about moment in an album. Cant wait to hear the rest. If this is a stepping stone it may as well be howls castle.

I follow this band since they released Amid it's hallowed mirth (have the 1st press CD) and since then I follow them. They became one of my favorite bands through time...

Sounds like old Opeth
The last time I listened to them was few years ago with "into night's requiem infernal" what a change, but that's positive, people change with time, nice song.
Dunno why I don't listen to these guys more. I've heard To Welcome The Fade and The Pale Haunt Departure, both very good albums. Definitely a more obscure lot than their prowess deserves.

Wish they came to Europe for a tour. Been a fan of ND since The Knowing. Would love to see them live.
I saw them once in 2006 in Copenhagen. They were touring with Agalloch, Saturnus and Thuriaz. Amazing concert

Opeth are a great band, friends of ours for many years. But we've never copied them or tried to sound like them, any similarities between the two bands are a result of us having similar influences and tastes, that's all. Thanks for checking out the video, cheers.
