Blondie is an American rock & new wave band co-founded by singer Debbie Harry & guitarist Chris Stein. They had a lot of great hits in the 70's-90's such as "Call Me", "Atomic", "The Tide Is High", “Rapture”, "Picture This", "Hanging On The Telephone", "I'm Gonna Love You Too", "One Way Or Another", "Sunday Girl", "Island Of Lost Souls", "War Child", "Maria" etc.

The truly iconic Blondie. You are in for a treat, they have such a diverse catalogue. This song isn't particlularly representative of their sound. They were a punk/new wave band that crossed over into the mainstream and had a string of no1s in the late 70's. They are still recording and touring today. Try Hanging on the Telephone, Call Me, Atomic, Rapture (the first rap record to be no1 in the USA), The Tide is High, Union City Blue, X-offender, Picture this, Maria ......... the list is endless with Blondie

You’re getting into it now my man. Blondie is one of the best. Blondie is a band and Debbie is the lead singer. I reckon you go down the Blondie rabbit hole. One of her new songs “forgive and forget” showcases her old sound. Another smash.

Great song & great reaction. Checkout the Blondie song "Rapture" as it was the first rap video ever broadcast on MTV! The drummer Clement Burke is a great guy! I went to the Isle of Wight Festival in 2023 and Blondie was one of the groups performing. The atmosphere was electric!

Blondie a new wave band exploded worldwide with this late '70's #1 hit. The two iconic albums from this time period by Blondie are Parallel Lines and Eat To The Beat ( a song from this titled The Hardest Part sums up the early style of this band and it is cool and different, there is a performance of it on youtube from SNL). The drummer is Clem Burke and he is my fav drummer, know for his machine gun style of drumming) The band is still together and touring !

Their biggest hit.Debbie was a big '70s rock icon and proved to be still very influential.Btw this gr8 song went also no1 in Europes most importand market, the UK and was the one that kept off top spot another gr8 song that was Abba's "Chiquitita"(no2)Both classics anyway.
Try Call me/Atomic/The Tide is high/Angels on the Balcony/Hangin on the telephone/One way or another.Debbie could almost sing anything from punk to broadway jazzy stuff.

This was one of the best songs of the 1970’s mixing disco with new wave from the hit making Parallel Lines album. Debbie Harry has one of those instantly recognisable voices no matter what she sings.

This was 1978; Blondie is a band featuring Debra Harry lead singer. It was part of the 80's NuWave/Punk scene in the US and Briton, as well as being a part of the late 70's Disco scene. A classic song, and one that would get tons of air time once MTV would start up in 1982

  • @christianoazzuro6711

This song was already about 3 years in the making before release.Despite some previous hits they had such as "Denis" It was this one that brought Blondie in the mainstream scene for good this time.I love Debbie. She was a kind of Marylin Monroe of the the rock scene and Blondie had one of the best drummers ever inmo, genius Mr.Clem Burke.
I might belong to the minority but instead of their mega classic album 'Parallel lines"which is considered by many as their finest one i absolutely adore their 1980 album 'Autoamerican".It's my favest one by them and i also have a soft spot for the opening track, that is such a fantastic instrumental. They made such diverse stuff but each time so fine.

Off the bat, I would also recommend Dreamin, Call Me, Atomic and Rapture. Hey there. Blondie is the group, Debbie Harry is the singer/ founder along with her boyfriend Chris Stein on lead guitar. They formed in 1974. The first album BLONDIE, was released in 1977, PLASTIC LETTERS 1978, PARALLEL LINES in "79". The first 2 albums didn't do well here in USA, but in Australia and the UK they were big.
You can and should do research on this iconic band and Debbie Harry. It's an awesome music history lesson for you.

Blondie came out of the punk era and are often credited with achieving the UKs first #1 rap song (Rapture). All their stuff is good but I prefer their earlier music, such as Denis, Detroit 442, and (I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence (Dear). Debbie Harry gave so many lads around your age their first crushes. 😍

Debra Harry has a lot of firsts. She was the first artist that made it to the top wearing blonde hair in front and black hair in the back. I remember everyone going crazy because she did her hair that way. That was part of her being Punk/New Wave that really hit it big time in the 80’s. BUT!!!… did you know she is the reason why we have rap today!? There were several groups that did rap like Fab 5 Freddy, but was never accepted into the mainstream because people felt there was no music to it. Which for the most part was true.
People just rhyming in rhythm, usually centered around one note. Debra Harry was a big fan of rap and knew if people listened to it, they would come to accept it as music and love it. So she did the song, “Rapture”. She wrote it with a rap in it and people still rhyme it today. It was the first mainstream rap song, watered down a bit, to make it palatable for the white community to like it, but it was the first! Her plan had worked. People started seeking out rap and making rhymes of their own about any subject, it didn’t matter.
So, in history that is why she is known as the Queen of Rap! If it wasn’t for her, we wouldn’t have it today. She was also the Queen of Punk and New Wave. WAAAYYYY ahead of her time! CHECK OUT RAPTURE!
She also has a GREAT song that she wrote for the movie, “American Gigolo” with Richard Gear. That one is “Call Me”. It’s still a great song today. Her music is timeless, man!

BLONDIE is a band. They named the band after the singer kept getting "cat calls" from men on the street saying/yelling "Hey blondie!" to get her attention. The singer's name is Deborah Harry.
Blondie were originall Punk Rock then transitioned to rock. This is their only Disco song. Some bands made one disco song during the Disco Era of the late 1970's.
Listen to their older stuff to hear her rockers voice. Atomic. Eat to the Beat. Hanging on the Telephone. One Way or Another.

Blondie were huge in the relatively short amount of years they were first active - and I might add it was the UK that took them to their hearts first rather than their actual native country of America. I mean for your own native country to not first time initially fully appreciate how great Blondie were well totally criminal! :-D Anyhow now you have started, got to immerse yourself more in their hitlist cause those initial albums contained some classics.

Chase, allow me to let you into a secret. In videos like these, _no-one_ is actually playing and singing - they're acting and lip-synching to the record. Sometimes, if they're musicians who'd rather be playing live, they'll goof around, like pretending to play a note on an electric cable, so that no-one is actually fooled. The video as a whole is just eye-candy, it's not a real performance.
_Actual_ live recordings are nearly always titled as such.
