One of the great things about Blondie is every song is so different. As soon as you think you know what to expect, they throw a curve ball at you. Punk, pop, rock, disco, rap, reggae, arty prog rock, jazz, the variations are endless! Their first LP "Blondie" had no hits but it's pure '60's retro heaven (X Offender, Rip Her To Shreds, In the Sun), their second LP had some gems (Fan Mail, Presence Dear), and their third "Parallel Lines" (which includes "Heart of Glass") could literally be a Greatest Hits album (Hanging on the Telephone, Pretty Baby, Sunday Girl, 11:59, One Way or Another). Their 4th lp, "Eat to the Beat" is more straight-ahead rock (Dreaming, Hardest Part, Accidents Never Happen) with one disco song that was another hit (Atomic). Then they had the single "Call Me" from the American Gigolo soundtrack which also went #1. You can't go wrong with any of them.
When this song was air played back then they omitted that one word but anyone dancing to this in the clubs knew what she said. Ah the 70s. Enjoyed your reaction. Looking forward to your next one.
It was great that you noticed the tempo change. And really it wasn't the tempo that changed but the time signature or the meter. And the thing is they had already used that riff before but kept it in straight 8 and so it really sets it up for when they start dropping the fourth beat out of every other measure, out of every other bar, making it essentially 7/4 time.
Blondie the group was way ahead of their time mixing punk, new wave, rock, pop, rap, reggae, disco. Debbie Harry the lead singer is a true Rock Goddess...Do "Rapture" and "One Way Or Another" next from them.
